Hi all, first I have to say that english is my second language.
Skill points are one of the main reason for EVE addiction. How many times I saw people not really playing some accounts but simply raise their skill points. Character bazar is a good example. Hundreds if not thousands of accounts being created only to raise SP. Pay account 14.95$ (or any other method but still), sit and wait. This is long term stable income for CCP. Think of it, 14.95$ to raise SP, for accounts that are mostly logged off. I did this for my second account, only raising SP and not playing the character for 15 months. This is a good working scheme to generate long term revenues.
This method is safe, 100% working and creates the DESIRE to remain in game longer, the player dreaming of being in their fancy ships 2 years later and working (read PAYING), patiently waiting to achieve their goals.
By introducing the PLEX-AUR-SP conversion, CCP would only try to urge the profit made for the main reason that retains people to play the game instead of sitting on their long term revenue method. This in my opinion, will crash the revenue in the sense of people urging SP for a small period of time instead, play the game with boosted skills with no experience then quit because they lost two easy earned Marauders.
EVE learning curve is very abrupt and takes years to assimilate. If you rush things out with SP and ships bought with real money, you will sacrifice long term stability and the desire created by peoples personal ingame dreams to short urged play and early quit playing type one.
Stability has always been winner compared to fast boosted profit.
CCP, please think of it.

All I can say is that if waiting for SP to acumulate is your main goal in a game it's a pretty poor way of playing.

When a game changes from P2P to CASH SHOP, the whole paradigm changes.
No longer do you want people sticking around forever.
You want them to log in, pay as much money as possible, then log out and leave.
Rinse repeat 2-3 times a month.
Log in, pay $100 oncheap insta win stuff, and then log off and not return till youre ready to spend another $100.
