Never use drones. The drones mwd will give you away faster then anything. I to am a Gallent drone pilot and dont have much love or sp's in missils.
I dont go to low sec after they changed the scaning way back when ever that was.
So lets reveiw this.
1.) Dont go to low sec.
2.) Bite the bullet and train T3 Caldair. Go to doctor to fix your tendones from clicking Dscan every 5 sec.
3.) Fig out like every other high sec or null sec pilot that low sec is only good for pvp and move on.
Now dont get mad at me I did not make low sec what it is today. I even use to run missions in low sec and lose a few mission boats here and there but not anymore myself.
Were all just saying we have already cryed. CCP drop stick gets head from low sec pirats and so it's not going to get fixed.
This post perfectly encapsulates my issues with lowsec.
You may have given up, but if CCP listens (lol) you'll benefit too, so why stifle someone else's attempts?
Mock me for trying, but don't just shrug and go "pointless" :P

There's nothing wrong with lowsec - people who live there and know what they're doing routinely run the good sites. It's not "completely unused" by any stretch of the imagination.
Also, if it takes you more than a minute to probe down an exploration site, you're doing it wrong or have terrible skills.

If you think scanning every site is easy you aren't scanning. (Hint: I'm not talking about anamolies.)

Every site in low-sec is easy to scan down (Hint: We're saying you suck).
Exploration in low-sec was always a bit of a gamble. Some sections of low-sec are more empty than others, and those are where you should be. Park in an underused constellation and work from there.
If the system you're working in suddenly feels less empty, start d-scanning at max range. As was pointed out earlier, max range is 14.5 AU, so they most definitely aren't keeping their probes out of d-scan range.

This! it takes what, 7-10 seconds to get your probes out and cloak again. Whilst dropping your probes AfterBurn away so that when the last probe drops you have minimal time waiting for the probe to be futher that 2k so you can cloak.

So you can scan any site in <2 minutes? Youtube it because I think you're full of it
As for "Once your probes are out, cloak" - the issue I have comes *after* I've found my site. It's like someone asking how to maintain transversal and you respond "Click the 'undock' button". |

OP makes a good point. There is a discrepancy between risk and reward in losec if you are exploring. I completely agree that if he spends 10-15 minutes scanning down a site its weird that he himself can be scanned down when he is in that site in less time. Notice that hes not asking for hostile opportunism to be nerfed, just to be more balanced. If I find several anomalies in a system I can be sitting cloaked scanning them down for 45 minutes to find out what they are and if theyre worth doing. Compare that effort with undock, drop probes, scan for ships, warp tacklers, kill explorer.

To make it fair I propose:
Make it more difficult to probe out people inside plexes Make it so exploration sites will cloak, warp to a new location or even dock up once core scanner probes come within 15au.

You arn't using the Alt-key to adjust probes. It takes me less than a minute to go from one scan range to the next scan range. Beginning with 4 Au it takes 4 steps to move to 0.25 Au. Do the math

To the alt-key people.
That was a big help, thanks!
Doesn't change the base point, but it is a major help.

I stopped reading most of this thread. You need a mentor, either you are a fairly new player or no one has really taken you under their wing, who knows a thing or two about eve. You are just off base on a few things. Radar sites are hard to scan down because CCP wants to see people struggle for very low payout.
Reasons this guy may have scanned you down fast...
1) it's much easier to scan a ship than any mag/radar/grav/ladar/unknown, etc. the lower your signature the harder you are to scan, so a battleship with it's mwd running is super easy to scan 2) he has a prober alt and just warped the wolf in on you 3) he scanned you down in a prober, then jumped into his wolf 4) he scanned the radar earlier, went to change ships, came back and you were in it already so he killed you 5) not a reason more of an observation...its possible this guy has a lot more experience scanning than you.
So many factors go into the speed at which someone can scan; Covops, rigs, sister's probe launcher, sister's probes, implants, skill points in scanning and the ship being piloted. But the biggest factor is the player. When i first started scanning a little over a year ago, i couldn't scan down a 10/10, just couldn't figure it out, i was in a rigged helios with sister's probes. So a corp mate came to help me, he scanned it with a core launcher on his vagabond.
Hit me up if you have any questions, I'd rather gain a competitor than see more threads like this where you see a little effort in assistance but mostly trolling and negative comments towards you.
The back and forth flaming is getting annoying, I'm disappointed in my fellow pilots.
I think as a community of players we should be trying to encourage newer players, not sending them packing because they are less informed or less experienced. The more we alienate the newer players, the less this game will be able to grow. CCP can add captains quarters or whatever other dumb **** that 90% of the player base care nothing about. What keeps people coming back is the satisfaction you get being part of a solid team, getting a good kill, working towards the next new flashy ship via whatever means of isk generation you've taken to, etc. It's sad most of eve is in high sec, so let's not discourage this guy from even coming into lowsec, there is such a vast amount of space controlled by Russian BOTs, pumping out trillions a day, while thousands sit in empire not experiencing what really make eve different from the other MMO's out there. I'm sorry if i single out russians as the only ones who bot, but the fact of the matter is, drone lands and the majority of Angel space is filled with Russian bots.
Hope you aren't discouraged, adapt and watch your ass next time, learn from your losses. Move to null sec, make some real isk, so the losses don't feel as bad, until u start flying pvp ships worth a bil. Those losses take a day sometimes to shrug off :). Oh and don't make a post that looks like you want advise, then rip into everyone who says you are wrong, most of them believe it or not know much more than you do.

Know what? It's pretty easy to find examples of people offering good advice and encouragement to newer/less experienced players.
The key difference is that, in those cases, the thread started with a question, instead of a complaint about how wrong something is, and an assertion that it needs to be changed.
The OP wasn't asking for help, or advice, or encouragement - it was a complaint.

Use cheap cruisers and battlecruisers. Take a risk. If you stay away from the big pirate systems you can probably clear most sites before they get you. Losing the odd ship is not the end of the world.

The problem is, though, IS IT WORTH IT? I decided no. You can make more in lowsec than in highsecàbut not that much more and maybe some will decide it is worth it. However, it is much more tedious than highsec where you can fly around fat dumb and happy.
Now, exploration is where lowsec shines. Exploration in lowsec is much better, IMO, than highesec. However, since exploration does not pay as well as highsec mission running, that is more of a hobby.
Nuela hit it on the head, make low sec exploration/ratting worth it. create better tools and more importantly better payouts for the pve'er, don't make them safe.. just pay them off better. This gives pirates more targets, and people willing to risk ships and implants better payouts.

Standard Core-probe launcher in the utility high slot instead of the usual Nos/Neut/Missile-Launcher. Only needs 15 Tf CPU (or 10 Tf if you want to pimp it with a Sisters Core probe launcher, but does anyone actually use those?).
1) Probe out and bookmark the site with Core probes (Sisters equipment should slightly obviate the lack of scanning boni on combat-focussed ships, good probing skills help a lot here, but there will be some sites you just won't be able to scan down) 2) Align to and D-Scan the bookmark 3) Warp in if the pinata is there 4) Make pinata urp-splode, grin as it swears at you, and disparages your sexual habits and/or parentage in local 5) ????? 6) (There is no 6--it got sex'ed in its' poor little bum in an exploration site because it wasn't watching local and D-scanner) 7) Profit

Originally by: Pharos Pharos It's pretty simple - watch Dscan, if probes are out, leave the site. In lowsec it's ridiculously easy to tell when you're being hunted, and if you leave the site/cloak up they'll have to work just as hard as you did to find it.
Of course smart pirates scan out sites, then leave them, so they can warp back to them without ever having to drop probes, preferably after you've already done most of the work for them.
In that case you've really gotta be on your toes - but try it from the other side sometime, I call it aggressive exploration and it can be pretty fun.
My money is on this being what happened to OP

While having some formula that affects the ship's space signature according to the scan-down difficulty of the exploration site it's sitting in is an intriguing idea, I have seen so called carebears bringing in clumsy marauders lit up like a Christmas tree into lowsec to run those sites. In systems like Adedald, nonetheless.
Obviously, stuff is doable.
