Edited by: Coeus Enderas on 26/06/2011 02:24:56 Please read this before you post. id like to hear some real reasons, not you calling me or CCP (a for profit company) a bunch of idots.
Why would buying ships/stations be a big deal? you can already do this. you buy a PLEX then sell said PLEX on the market and bam you have 450-500 mil ISK. with that you can now purchase many of the available ships. so, if they let someone use AUR, the only thing they do is deny pirates the ability to steal that particular PLEX.
The problem i see with all the rioting around this letter is that your rioting about something that has been happening for years. the fact that PLEX exists destroys any value in the argument "i had to grind my money to buy my ships". assuming they dont allow one to purchase entire skill levels( which is something akin to purchasing a level 85 toon in WoW, and thus something i doubt they would ever do) the ability to buy a ship with real life money is an action that would bring tons of money to CCP while having very little impact on the game, beyond taking away the ability to steal that particular PLEX. It doesn't give anyone any particular advantage they wouldn't already have if they bought PLEX.
As for the Economy question, i somehow doubt the economy would collapse. so long as the RL price is comparable to the ISK price, there will be no great shopping spree. people with the money will buy the ships, most wont. some will use it as another source of income.
So i ask, Whats the Big Deal?

This has been explained many, many times.
I doubt anyone has the patience to do it again. Read all of Tippia's posts in this thread.

You know what we need? Another thread asking this same question. If you can't understand it from the 6 other threads asking the same thing, you're just not going to understand.

Collapse is a perspective issue. If people have a lot invested in the game yes, to them you would be collapsing the system by adding a bottomless supply of goods to the market. You devalue currency when you print more money and add it to the supply.
The same goes for ships or other items created out of nothing for sale on the free market. These items create problems for manufacturers that are competing on sales points with these same or similar products. Prices will be more or less controlled by real world currency.
Say you are trying to sell a pilot you've spent a lot of your subscription time and single character training time invest in. You list him on the bazaar for 18 billion which might be a fair price by todays standards. CCP decides to let people buy a pre-skilled test-tube pilot with the same skills which they can customize with a name, race and, look of their own for the equivalent of 10 billion. They have just devalued your character and capped the auction buyout at 10 billion even though the former going rate was 18. Then too, game changing items, ships or weapons suddenly appearing create fairness issues...not only because the player paying real cash did not have to work as hard for the item, but because logistially speaking a group can use extra economic forces to effect in game situations. "wow where did those 10 titans come from...where did they get the resourses for 10 titans in this neighborhood?"
Lastly, game effecting items make money for the game company based on the need of the player. A player has the need to look cool, so what. Player has the need to finish a level 6 mission solo; "here you are...a for cash t4 ship." This idea has caused many "free to play" model games to craft and adjust difficulty to maximize MT sales. This creates not just fairness concerns but saps the fun from activities in game by making them excessively difficult. Those are the main concerns with MT; there may be others. Players are justified in their concerns over MT for game effecting items. So far CCP has not stated firmly that they are pursuing this end so please don't mistake this post as a complaint.
