This is not a rant. This is not a complaint. This is an observation from a grungy, tired, ******* of a space pirate. I make carebears cry, I make women scream. Children would cower at the mention of my name. Miners and *cough* anti pirates would freeze when they saw me.... But no more....
I'm not sure if any of you softies in this universe we call Eve have ever felt this or experienced it for that matter except for those who have taken the risk, the undertaking, the challenge.
But when you warp in and get that rush, that seething burning in your gut when you get right in your prey's face, lock them and clamp them down like a blood filled rabbit to a wolf and see them disintegrate in a matter of seconds knowing full well the cost they now endure the pain, the anger, frustration knowing full well their ship has been lost and the spoils yours...
THAT to me is Eve. Risk people. Knowing full well there could be a blob waiting, a few battleships, a carrier, a Titan. It matters not. What matters is the Risk. The reward. The glory of the spoils....
Where is the game I knew? Where is the imagination? Where is the black sheep among MMO's? Where is the company that I gave nearly seven years worth of my time and money to? World Of Warcraft has been cancelled. Guild Wars sits collecting dust. Star Wars galaxies, Lord of The Rings Online as well...
Eve Online is the ONLY game I keep coming back to. Eve has gone with me as I went to war signing up for military service, going abroad and coming home. Eve has been with me as I underwent college after and now Eve is here with me as I sit here in a motel in Barstow California awaiting the next Freight Train to take back to a small town in California where it's 115 degrees and my new job exciting and challenging.
Point being is no I'm not a person living in my Mothers basement although boy life would be easier. To me the players in Eve even yes you bleeding heart Carebears have been of a certain caliber. A certain breed if you will.
It takes a very unique person to jump into low sec only to be fried and shrug it off and come back. It takes an even more daring person with grit to risk it all because who really knows whats waiting beyond the next warp gate.
THAT is what keeps me coming back to Eve. The player, the risk, the reward. You can't pod an orc in purple armor, and you certainly cannot destroy that kids goodies permanently like Eve. But I digress.
What I have read over the past couple of hours is nothing short of shocking. To see that CCP has forgotten itself, that it's leaders have not only ignored but blatantly insulted those that sign their paychecks to me is nothing short of defamation. YOU CCP Built not a "world" or a "guild" at war.... But an entire UNIVERSE.
A Universe where the space is black as it is deadly, a place where it's reward is as mesmerizing as the first time you warp into the unknown... You have taken pilots beyond and we have thrived in this environment because it is FUN.
I implore, no I beg of you please don't become another Blizzard... Where the success and greed goes to your head and the product becomes as stale and as revolting as the carcass of a once majestic animal... Look at your competitors... Look at how stale Cataclysm has become. I won't name what game but sadly I am part of a beta of an upcoming game and IT TOO is sadly just another MMO....
The only MMO that is unique to me is this one. And I am certain anyone who plays this game will not only agree with me but are PROUD to be players! As the leaders of this game you should be proud of your players too! Be humble! be thankful that success has driven you this far!
Don't forsake those that got you where you are now because without us, your universe would be unplugged and you'd be looking for work elsewhere.... Oh and game breaking weapons and ships shouldn't go for real money. If that's your angle give all those bleeding heart gold farmers their accounts back. With black hearted sincerity - TR ________________________________________________ Keeping 0.0 Lethal; Since; Ever; Like its supposed to be. |

They didn't forget anything. All that changed is that the playerbase just found out who they REALLY are. (Aside from the handful of us who have been making the same complaints for months, if not years, about CCP incompetence and lack of integrity.)

Edited by: Herring on 26/06/2011 05:06:46 I will say this much: these leaks wouldn't have happened if someone at ccp didn't still care. It doesn't change my decision to leave, but it changes the focus of my discontent. I think that as discussed on eve radio, these decisions are being forced on everyone there. If I could still login, I'd take place in the destructive mayhem until my time runs out. There's nothing wrong with ingame protesting.
But for those who aren't happy (for any number of reasons), it's probably not that productive to your cause (even though it might make you feel better) to leave all the rage and hate on the forums. Just put your money where your mouth is and let your accounts expire. I think it's the only way CCP will be saved in the long term from themselves is if we do it ourselves with austerity.
*edit* not directed at the op, just something I wanted to say and somewhat related to his topic.

Will there ever be a Hulkageddon again?
I know you guys have a very big reason to be angry at CPP but please oh please think of all the poor yarrbears who are looking forward to another thrilling event suicide spaceship extravaganza.

They permanently banned the organizer of Hulkageddon, claiming that he made real life death threats. What he actually said was that dying in a fire would be too quick and painless for someone ... which while extremely awful to say isn't actually a threat. The employee he said this to/about was trolling people in the in game help chat at the time, and deserves to no longer have a job, imo.

Eloquent.

See, that's a problem. It's a game. Once you start getting personal, explaining ways you wish people would die in real life and such?
Yeah ... go out and get a real life of your own.

Oh I thought they banned him for posting a link to the leaked document. Whatever the case may be it was extremely untactful to ban one of the most respected members of this community. I can only hope CCP will come to their senses and at the very least attempt to bring him back someway. Although I don't really see them swallowing their pride.

Perhaps the devs will pay attention. Sadly already many of my fellow corp members have unsubscribed all their accounts being many who are veteran players like myself.
there was even talk of some of our alliance disbanding it became so desperate and I personally had to give a convicting argument to hold things together. CCP has really done a number this time.
Hopefully things will change... ________________________________________________ Keeping 0.0 Lethal; Since; Ever; Like its supposed to be. |

People can get carried away quite easily. But that this level of emotional involvement is shown en masse shows how great the EVE community is.

Perhaps. It should be. It should be in the next fixed expansion trailer...

I didn't lose. Oh sure I lost my Hurricane to a blob today but I came back and knocked out one of their canes in a Tempest and realized he dropped 47 million isk in loot.

I am inclined to agree. I was too tired to go full nerd rage. Actually I never really "raged". It's akin to the feeling of shock when you walk in on your spouse in the bed with someone else. Then they refuse to let you join in the fun....
