So here I was, sitting on my couch trying to sell a few ships and I noticed that my CPU was up over 70 C.
Immediatly having flashbacks of forum rage, I quit out of EVE and shutdown.
After having removed my mammoth heatsink, I found that it was filled with dust and the paste itself needed some TLC.
Now, here I stand in front of my holovision and I'm sitting at around a cool 40 C.
Just thought I'd make a note of this, to anyone that is thinking of blaming EVE for their PC repairs. And if you're reading this, you've fallen into a signature trap. You owe me 1m ISK. |

So you're saying that everything was overheated 'n shiz, and all you had to do was get rid of DUST?

70C is not a problem for a CPU. ANd it will throttle and shutdown itself if it gets too hot. You can not damage a CPU via heat. To kill a CPU you need to overvoltage it, overclock it, cool it down below 5C or a combination.
And before you post a silly Tcase number you found somewhere. Remember what you measure is Tjunction. An internal DTS sensor. Tcase is an external value that you cant measure without alot of work. Tcase is for OEMs to design by. --------------------------------------

Hmmm. Well, it's a lot cooler now, at least. And if you're reading this, you've fallen into a signature trap. You owe me 1m ISK. |

If you got an Intel CPU it will throttle around 90C in a desktop and 100C in a laptop. Below that is safe operating temperatures if you measure its via coretemp, speedfan etc (Tjunction value).
Cleaning the PC now and then is always a good idea :) --------------------------------------

Good to know once again ccp was right and all others were wrong EVE has no issues just do your dusting.
again thank you for a small second I thought the players may have been truthful for once.

try removing the heat sink and turning on your computer, then you find out if heat can't damage your cpu.

Thats been done before if you look at hardware sites. In short, do some research ;)
Note its very old CPUs. SInce why the P4 survieves: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06MYYB9bl70
(AMD also got heat protection via throttle etc today.) --------------------------------------

The day of the patch i knew CQ would have some affect on my PC. so i spent the whole day cleaning it out, removing dust etc etc.
my CPU Q6600 (2.4ghz) unclocked
core 1 = 60c / cleaned 55c core 2 = 54c / cleaned 49c core 3 = 60c / cleaned 55c core 4 = 54C / cleaned 49c
this is full load running CQ with all settings high
NV9600gt (asus glacier)
50c max full loading max settings : default nvidia drivers console.
so instead of everyone complaining may i say a few words
" CLEAN OUT UR FRECKING PC'S "
as the OP says alittle TLC can make a world of change, plenty of "how to's" on youtube and computer forums, also download REALTEMP it handles both dual and quad cored cpu's, gives fan temps gpu temps, records min an max temps and also has a test function to check for sticking sensors, also tell's you how far before thermal shutdown.
