For those who think the NEX store is nothing to worry about in and of itself, think again. Here is what happens when micro transactions are introduced into a game.
ADS! ADS! and more ADS! Everywhere you turn, there will be ADS trying to get you to buy stuff from the store. Doubt this? Do you think they put the store in the game for its aesthetic appeal?? They are in business to make money! GiG! They want to sell stuff for RL Iskies (Aurum - whatever). Get ready for the ADS. The are coming soon (TM)!
You thought SCAM SPAM in local chat was bad, get ready for ADs that cannot be blocked, ignored, reported or turned off! If you were CCP, would you give your customer's the option of turning off ADS that directly impact your bottom line! Not a chance. That is just bad business!
Get ready for splash screen ADS too. They will be there. Events will now be geared around marketing gimmicks for the NEX Store. Doubt it? Go look at other games that have switched to micro transactions. It will change the direction of a game in hugely significant way! Might there be more content. Sure. But it will come with a hook! Guaranteed! You can't stop GREED! I envision SIM CITY in SPACE!
This website and these forums are going to splattered with these ADS before long too. The NEX store is just in the introductory stage. Once they get us used to the idea, they will ramp up their AD campaign. There will be a whole forum dedicated to store specials. Watch and see. They will likely even throw banner ADS up on the forums for their NEX Store wares. Where you see a blank space now, you will see ADS in 6 months! If you were CCP, wouldn't you advertise your products -- all of them? The NEX store will host CCP in-game products!
Notice that they even are hiring a new chief marketing officer (http://www.ccpgames.com/en/jobs/job-details.aspx?jobid=249). In game marketing will become a critical function of their bottom line! They will have a department in the company dedicated to hooking you for your cash. They are already measuring how many monocles they have sold. This is just the beginning!
Someone else mentioned this, but I bet we see ADS on those TV's in our CQ before long also! You thought that was just for in game stuff. ROFL. They didn't give you a TV for free. They want you to think about the NEX Store while you are sitting on that comfy couch! If I was them, with their vision for the game, that is what I would do. Wouldn't you?
This has been seen time and again in other games. I was there when DDO went F2P and added their store. Go to there site now and look at what the focus is - BUY! BUY! BUY! EVE might as well change their name to EVE MART! That is what it will become. It is inevitable. Resistance is futile. CCP_Zulu might as well blog on that.
Now ... based on the CEO's leaked internal note, CCP plans to "fearlessly" take this one step further. Based on the introductory price of their monocles and the $1000 jean story that CCP sees the NEX Store as a top tier boutique of in-game items. So, they will price their stuff super high. Folks will buy it. Then, to show their benevolence, they will run specials, flash deals, etc. and offer those top tier items for bargain prices. It will seem generous of them, even charitable, but it is all a marketing gimmick. This is ADVERTISING and SALES 101. Get ready for non-stop manipulation. What's worse - they expect us to subscribe to get treated to this special privilege.
You have been warned. The NEX store will bring with it all of this and then some. I am willing to venture that CCP will even pioneer some new ways to get your money! So, pony up boys and girls. It is coming whether you like it or not!

Oh yeah... one more thing...
If they are bought out by Sony, this will only get exponentially worse. Sony won't buy CCP because they like their commitment to a niche game with an attitude that drives casual players away (which, by the way, is the game we enjoy playing). They will buy CCP for the bottom line. All that will matter is the bottom line!

I would love to have this moved to the CSM forum. I think it is something they should talk about when it comes to MT, which will inevitably be here.
I play my game to escape such nonsense, not be inundated with someone else wanting to constantly reach their hand in my wallet.

Funny things is Turbine did the same thing when they switched DDO to F2P with MT. It is part of the whole paradigm shift. The difference is that this a sandbox and that was a PVE environment. I think this has far greater ramifications to game play than what DDO did.

As an example of the ads, the Global Agenda start screen has huge buttons all over it for "BUY this", "BUY that".
Then you run a mission, and at the end you're shown the scoreboard which shows three columns. First is the base rewards for the mission, the next two columns showing the rewards you would have obtained if only you'd been a subscriber, and then bought a booster pack. The subscriber level offers the same reward again (with a random item), the booster pack offers the same reward again (with a random item), so you're being told "spend money, get triple the reward and two random items!"

So that is why they added those huge TVs in CQs - to show spam with NeX crap! Totally makes sence.
Oh CCP, how low can you fall?

I'm quite sure that some of the Game Designers and Marketing nimwits will have a serious challenge at their next performance review, since it's probably in their job description to "have good customer relations". I would not be surprised at all to see a McDonalds advert with ex-CCP employee offering Big Mac for $99.99 next year. ----------------------------------------------- "The No A$$HOLE Rule" by Robert Sutton, PhD |

Not only ADS, but ALL DEVELOPMENT gets turned into "How do we get them to buy more NEX items"
Every last ounce of dev cycle.
It turns into a Classic reverse inverse Kensyian Pinata situation, and nobody wants that.

Fear not. You can probably buy an anti-ads item for a small fee of a couple hundred thousand AUR that will reduce ads significantly.

Yes, let's all rage about something that hasn't even been done yet and unlike 'gold ammo' hasn't even been hinted at yet.
I propose we all quit in protest over the removal of low and null sec. No info on it yet, but it's coming, honest!

Yes, I saw it with Blizzard when Activision took over, their ad free forums suddenly got swamped with ads. Someone also told me Team Fortress 2 went Free to Play... I downloaded it via steam and was shocked at the whoring of micro transactions and ads. free? really?
