Soo,
After the recent news I wonder how many others are thinking that The Old Republic doesn't look as bad as they first thought ;-).

I'm playing a closed beta right now. That's all I can say. PvP is awesome though. ================================================= What is right is not always popular, and what is popular is not always right. |

Let me know who exactly pvp is different from all the other instanced MMO's out there. As far as I can tell the only difference is NPCs talk and it's more of a single player experience than anything.
Looks to be the same ole button mash fest.

Everyone I know who got in on this called it a blatant WoW clone, and I already have RIFT for that. I'm not going to touch it with a ten foot pole unless there's a free trial + incentive, and I'm not following it so unless STEAM puts it in front of me I probably won't know if there is one.
Extensive voice acting is nice for your boxes and release review/preview articles but you have to think about the logistics of that. You can't possibly continue that kind of production value on a month to month basis. Even if they could, it would be sucking up a bunch of their time and money instead of going to content.
My hopes for MMO's rest with Guildwars 2.
GW2, EVE, and then I just need a shooter game and I'll be set for gaming for as long as they don't shut down.

Agreed.
Guild Wars 2 is looking pretty good and should have decent PvP given its pedigree.
I hope SWTOR lives up the hype but watching the gameplay videos leaves me a little cold. Having said that, it does have some nice cinematics.

Some aspects of the pvp look very interesting like the scenarios, you actually have a mission to accomplish like taking over or defending an orbital defense battery and things like that. To win you have to complete a whole series of objectives to complete the primary objective.
Objective based pvp where you have to actually do something in order to win and with a set series of victory conditions is far better than most button mashing CTFs or whatever, and Bioware appear to be taking the pvp as seriously as all the voice acted questing.
So some of the core mechanics might be typical MMO affairs I like the idea of little Star Wars type stories that underpin the pvp, remember the mission to Endor to deactivate the Death Stars shields? imagine how cool a pvp scenario that would be and that's what Bioware have promised.

Meh it's been done though and in instances. WAR and WOW both had you do X and Y before you could do Z. Granted Maybe this is more intricate, but no I don't really care about taking a shield down. I'm not gonna be fanboi'd just because they throw in "Remember in star wars 3?" Or "Remember when Luke..." I need actual examples of how this isnt the same ****. Or if it is the same **** how yours is so much better . And because it is instanced it means im gonna be doing the same **** over and over without a real purpose.
Now if they have open world pvp that leads to taking of territory and thus other things ALA DAOC...im on board. If not if I want instanced pvp im gonna play an FPS.

Well you can go and read about the game yourself, or you can wait and see for yourself but I am guessing you will go with the third option and keep sperging assumptions over the Internet.
I will hold my judgment and go with the first two personally.

My surging assumptions are based off of reading previews, or say first hand accounts. Trusting the game website it's self should be taken with a grain of salt as after all they are trying to market the thing. And MMO devs are notorious for spinning things or exaggerating bullet points. Which is what I quoted you as saying "Well the devs said were going to capture... etc etc"

Indeed. I¦m gona find out what all this WoW hysteria is about without dumping 200Ç on all its expansion packs and subs, while running around in one of my favorite IPs.

Ok, I have been playing a beta. It has the full game features so we are just told to go exploring and do whatever we want. This game is exactly KOTOR 3. Now, from my experience with MMORPGs, which is none, I'm having fun. Seriously, EVE is the only MMO I play. Never had a itch for WoW or whatever else is out there. The story(or stories) is awesome for whatever class you pick. It is more engaging than going to an agent, spending an hour in a lvl 4 with a drake.
I love Star Wars, this is leaps and bounds better than SWG. Not going to lie, after a while PvP is a bit weird until you start ranking up more and get better abilities. They have some silly gamemodes but one does mimic battlefront. I'm a Sith Warrior-Marauder.
They still need to work on balancing a bunch of stuff out but I swear its probably ready for a Sept/October release. ================================================= What is right is not always popular, and what is popular is not always right. |

GW2 and.. Heroes 6!
Just got my Beta-key, now I can stop shiptoasting these forums while I see CCP sink what used to be a kickass game..
But yeah, GW2 looks better than SW:TOW, and I really wish I was wrong saying that. But yeah. Beta SW:TOW looks ok, but not that whoaw-feeling. I hope I'm wrong! -

BTW, there are multiple planets with Open PvP. You just have to throw up your PvP flag. ================================================= What is right is not always popular, and what is popular is not always right. |
