Howdie all, I just traded my Amarr character for an Gallente one. unfortunatly it has 0 standings and since all I do is missions I would like to know how to play my Gallente char
I was hoping that you guys could break down the Gallente ship lineup for me and tell me what ships to use for:
lvl1 lvl2 lvl3 lvl4 solo pvp

Not really. The Navy Domi only has a wee bit more space in the drone bay, a bit more CPU and Powergrid for fitting modules and weapons, and less calibration for fitting rigs (sentry augmenter rigs require a large bit of calibration). Otherwise it does exactly the same thing that a normal Dominix does but for 350 or so million more.
Now if you look towards the Rattlesnake... that's a different matter entirely. MUCH better tank, larger drone bay, and weapons (missiles) can reliably hit out at long range with the exact damage that the NPCs are weak against. The only drawbacks with it are the large signature radius (allowing you to be probed down easier), large amounts of cross training (requires training up Caldari BS, shield skills, and missile skills), and cost (700+ million for the hull plus additional costs if you want to "pimp" it).
Other ships you could look to is the Ishtar and Gila. Both are cruisers, so they can enter any level mission without a problem, and can fit [more or less] the same amount of drones as the aforementioned battleships can. The only drawbacks with these are;
- the Ishtar requires Gallente Cruiser 5 which takes a fair bit of time to get along with getting your armor and capacitor skills up to "high-ish" levels. - the Gila requires similar cross training that its larger brother the Rattlesnake requires (i.e. Gallente and Caldari cruiser skills, shield skills, missile skills). - both ships require a bit of micromanagement both in ship control and NPC aggro as they rely on speed for half their tank (hint: kill in order of smallest NPCs to largest). - both ships require a large investment into drone skills in order to deal "good" DPS. _______________________

Navy hull is very much worth buying.
As with most things, as long as you don't blow the ship up you can always re-sell it down the road for around the same price you bought it.

Ishkur/Ishtar for all lvl missions until you get comfortable with lvl 4s, then switch to a Rail/Sentry Navy Domi
...Then when you stopped to think about it. All you really said was Lalala. |

To the original post:
(This all depends on your skills, higher skills you can zoom through 90% of missions with an AF)
Level 1: Ishkur/Enyo Level 2: Ishkur/Enyo Level 3: Vexor/Ishtar, Myrm Level 4: Ishtar/Domi, Hyperion (not as fun though) Kronos is decent enough for L4s, I had quite the fun with it for a while.
Wormholes: Ishtar/Domi, or Proteus. All are pretty painful, but doable.
For Solo PvP? Assuming you can get one...
Afterburn AFs (both) work very well. High damage for a frigate platform on both ships. The Ares and Ranis both work very well to snag non-minmatar ships, two top tier Dogfighting interceptors. Not very common nowadays, but worth it when the situation arises.
If you're in the mood for ganking Mission runners/PvE ships, AND have the skills/practice, Arazu/Lach both still work. No where near the old levels (Your engagement envelope with Sensor damps is very low, aprox 5-10km "green range", compared to 20-25km pre-nerf.) {Err, Engagement envelope is the range you damp them down compared to your point/weapon range. So if they get damped to 10km lock range, and your scram is 15, you have a 5km Envelope to stay in.) But, the tactic still works for highly skilled (real skills, not Skill points) pilots.
Solo Neut Domi is still an awesome sight to behold.
The Proteus is also very adept at solo/small gang work, works very similar to a Deimos, but with a higher EHP, meaning you get a chance to shoot them before you blow up ;)
The evergreen Ishtar also works quite well, even with the Nos nerf, you can still cause some serious damage with a local-rep nosing/ab Ishtar if they're unprepared for it.
----------- The Navy domi is "sorta" worth it. It does the same effective DPS (drones) as its normal counterpart, but the extra Mid slot may be worth it for some situations. 99% of the time I personally dual-rep my mission Domis, so the extra slot means ECCM/Drone mod, or dropping a CCC for a sentry damage rig. It can also mean dropping the CPR in the low for an extra armor resist. I haven't run any missions in a domi since the changes to NPC ecm, but I assume the extra ECCM might be worth it, I honestly don't know. But, an extra slot is an extra slot. (also the additional armor hp can come in handy for those, "oops wrong resists" moments ;)
---------
The Navy Vexor is fun, but overpriced for what it is.. an Ishtar with 1 less heavy drone, and T1 resists, Mine is fully "Federation Navy"'d out, purely for Vanitys sake.

Nope, defenitely not worth it for pve. The ishtar and myrmidon beat it in just about every way possible. It could have been a nice cruiser, but it has issues with fitting etc.
And on the original topic: Ishtar & dominix are very good ships for lvl 4 missions. If your tired of using drones as your main weapon however, the navy megathron and later the kronos are good choices for a pure gallente char. Im not such a fan of the navy domi purely because it cannot fit 2 sentry rigs, making the normal dominix a superior droneship if you rely on sentries.

Ok after reading this all I think I'm going to go this route:
Level 1: Ishkur Level 2: Ishkur Level 3: Myrmidon/Ishtar Level 4: Ishtar
Now all I need is fittings, any suggestions? :)

Ishtar is crap compared to the dominix for mission running.
The dominix can have up to 6 bonused guns. It can almost double it's DPS from the drones with those.

You mean those six railguns you'll never use due to the immense cap drain, bad range and low damage?

Yes, those. Rails don't use THAT much cap, their base damage is crap, but it's better than using projectiles etc. Because of the 20-25% damage bonus. And their range and tracking aren't bad either.
Rails aren't worthless just because it's popular to say their are crap.
But sure, slap on some artillery for lower dps, range and tracking. Because, they after all better than railguns.
