Hey all,
we all know whats going on ... or do we really? I don't think so. Sure, MTs can destroy the fun in the game, if they offer non-vanity-items. But all we know yet are infos from leaked documents, rumours, speculations, so after all we really know nothing. We just guess. That doesn't mean the reactions and opinions of us are false. But now it's time to lean back, and wait for the results of the CCP/CSM meeting.
It doesn't bring anybody further, not us, and not CCP when the forum is filled up with more speculations. We can discuss, but best way to discuss is to keep calm.
Not to be misunderstood: MTs with non-vanity-items would be a no-go for me too. I began playing Eve in May 2004, and after more than 7 years without interruption, there is a reason why I'm still here, with 2 accs since 2004, and another 2 since 2006: I love this game. And if it would change in a that drastic matter, to buy advantages with real money, it would be pointless for me to continue. I have no problem with MT for vanity items only, and I even wouldn't mind the (much too high) pricing. Because vanity items are something I don't need if the pricing kicks them out of my interest range. That's the most important point for me, and most others to be answered.
Another thing are the CQ. Here I can only see two big issues. First the high load on some GPUs, second the missing option to switch it off. I think it isn't really necessary to have an option to switch it off. We just need to dock into the old hangar view (with all it's functions), with the oprion to leave the ship later, and maybe a second docking option like "dock and leave ship". In my opinion, more people will leave theit ships, when more options become available with following patches. CQ alone are nice to look at, but with nearly nothing to do there, leaving the ship makes not much sense yet.
But I don't understand the people who say, we didn't get what we got promised. This first Incarna patch was meant to give us CQ - nothing more we got promised. And I can fully understand why CCP made this step. Sure it would be nice to have instant access to all station enviroments with the first patch. But that would mean to add much more new code, much more bugs, much more workload to solve issues with the new contents. I can remember the time, when after big patches Eve wasn't really playable for one or two days. If we look at that (with the exception of some bugs every patch brings) patching most time really runs very smooth nowadays. And if a patch takes some hours longer than announced, well .... hardware and software are beasts, and I guess everybody including me already spent hours on his machine because it wasn't doing what it should. If somebody asked you in such a situation how long you will need to fix it sure will have brought many underestimated answers.
So the last days brought us questions, speculations, and now we have a time table to wait for answers. After we have them, we can decide if we like them or not.
The leaked newsletter, and especially the leaked email, took away trust, and maybe respect. A costumer relationship takes both of it as a important base, on both sides. Trust and respect can't be bought, they have to be earned. And if they get lost, it's even harder to earn them again.
Of course CCP is a company, and a companys first interest is to earn money. Usually this is be done, by giving the costumers what they want. I work in sales business too (not computer related), and maybe sometimes it would be possible to sale a costumer what I want him to buy. But most time this would be the last sale with that costumer. So I hope CCP will go the right direction.
So until next weekend ... I wait what comes.
