Yo! is it possible to just use the built-in mic on the macbook pro for teamspeak or should I go to the apple store to get a new one? additionally, are there any mics that work by plugging into the aux as opposed to usb? because my usb ports are us-broken.

Using built-in micro is a possibility, however sound quality and "ambient noise" are not good for PvP.
As well as built-in reproduction may (mb not in your case) disturb other people in your vicinity.
I, myself am using sennheiser PC360Game with Lenovo USB dongle, but i can plug it in "audio" ports as well.

In a MacBook I guess the fan could make a bit to much "ambient noise" to be tolerable. With a iMac this is no problem at all and I actually prefer the internal mic over a headset as it allows others in the room to comment our ts chatter ;-)
For standard headsets on macs: They work if their microphones are active, which is rarely the case. If you want to use a passiv microphone/headset you have to use an amplifier which can be bought as small external box.
Advantage: Better sound quality than most onboard solutions.
Disadvantage: A extra box with cost extra.
Another solution would be to buy a external sound card, thunderbolt or firewire preferred or just a simple usb headset with their in-build sound cards. Be carefully that you get mac drivers in this case.
Why a forum in the year 2011 still has no automatic double post merge which can be done even with javascript mostly is beyond my understanding. |

cool, thank you guys. I'll have access to an imac for the next two months or so, which should allow me ample time to get my usb's fixed, and then I can just buy a good headset.

the built in mic's blow (from my experiance), getting a good mic was hard so ask a lot of questions to the mac store people.

It is possible to use the built in mic on the MBP. However, I don't recommended it. The fans are going to fast, all anyone will ever hear when you talk on comms is your fans and or HDD going nuts. Your better off using a headset, or even a pair of iPod headphones. |
