Ever since TF2 started with the micro transactions hundreds of thousands of dollars have been spent on hats and other vanity items as well as weapons and things like name tags for weapons.
No TF2 is free to play no doubt because of the huge flow of money from the implementation of MT.
I have to ask how much money in US dollars would CCP need to magically fall into their vaults to be able to make eve free to play?
Could a CCP marketing specialist or equivalently intelligent member of the staff give me a definitive answer? "Sweet Jesus, It's an Anti-AT field!"

why in the hell would you want it to go F2P? that sort of transient behaviour would certainly mean the end. ================================================== EVE DARK AGES - A new MT expansion for Eve online. |

No amount. CCP is funding the development of their other projects from EVE's income. Go look at that other thread with the financial information dissected. Thus, EVE wouldn't become F2P even with the microtransactions because CCP needs the money to cover their costs.

If EVE went free to play we'd get even less of a service than we do now... It's a silly idea, we just need to hold out hope for when CCPs other projects come to fruition that we'll see some reward come back our way... in the meantime, the door.

TF2 isn't the same, almost everything in the store can be similarly "built" by players who collect up their extra weapons or discovered by the random loot drop table. Also TF2 isn't "free to play" in the normal sense, they never had any monthly fee to play, you just purchased the game ($20 for the box) and individual clans host the servers. Now the "free" part is they are giving the game away for free for you to install and play.
The things that can't be discovered or built are pure vanity items. All weapons and other items for combat can be built or discovered by the player. See the difference with how CCP is operating and their "vision" for AUR?

You realize that Plex can be bought with isk right? SO that like TF2 MT there are 2 ways of obtaining a vanity item..
1. Use $$$ 2. Use ingame assets
Eve is no different.. You can buy your 1000$ jeans without spending a single dollar.. You might have to mission some more then you are used too though. "Sweet Jesus, It's an Anti-AT field!"

Why contain it? Let it spill over the schools and churches, let the bodies pile up in the streets. In the end they'll beg us to save them.
