It might be because I lack the skills to use them, but I'never found them usefull. In pve you just can't kill anything small and in pvp you need a blob or die.
Am I just a poor excuse of a capsuler or do other people find Strategic Cruisers do everything better than Battleships?

Erm...last I checked, there was a bit of a discrepancy in price between the two classes. Something about one being T1 and the other being T3?
Are there any other profound truths you'd like to bestow upon the community today? Perhaps something about the mean people in Jita local chat?

In PvE your goal isn't to kill the small things, that's what your drone bay is for, and every battleship has a drone bay that can hold at least a flight of light drones. You should focus on sniping the medium-sized stuff before it gets in range, and blasting minivan-sized holes in the large stuff.
If you're flying a raven, I can understand your sentiment. My opinion is that it's a terrible ship, unable to tank or deal damage much better than a battlecruiser, really. I have no idea why it's so incredibly popular.
If you're flying a turret-based ship, the problem may be yours. Make sure you understand transversal, this video explains it well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UufI-36a2ew You may also need to revisit the drawing board when it comes to your fitting.
As far as PvP, I have little experience with battleships, because I purposefully avoid that style of PvP, but it does seem to be blob or die, due to the lack of the BSes ability to GTFO. And given the advent of supercarrier hotdrops everywhere, it looks like their niche may pretty well be nonexistent at the moment.

The ever OP tengu aside, BS generally beats t3s in PVE. You are supposed to use your drones to kill off the frigates that get under your guns.
I am flying a rather low sp *beam* Abaddon and there is yet to come a lvl4 I can't do with relative ease. Some missions I run with pulses, but even then my drones are used for close up frigates etc. It's really not a problem.

Edited by: Delucian on 28/06/2011 14:14:45 Edited by: Delucian on 28/06/2011 14:11:30 Every ship has its use. I fly BS' to good effect in PVE, especially L4 and above missions that would require lesser ships to leave continually. This is not to say that a good pilot with the right setup can't fly a BC or Cruisers to do these missions, but trying to chew through a repping BS with 5 or 6 others bearing down on you is NOT going to be an easy task.
I never had much luck with the Raven either, but that was more my style of play than the ship. I mission grind in my Rattler and snipe in my SNI (I am a sucker for the Scorpion hull). That said, I am training for a Tengu, as it will provide me two things; the ability to run L4 & L5 missions differently than I am now and it is a good step from the Drake and Frig's I use in PVP (when my skills are there).
I have only died in a BS in PVP, even to small gangs. So my experience with it in those situations (namely the Raven) is not good.
Edit; I will add that until my skills were pretty high the BS was a difficult ship to do well with. Also, the fit is critical for what you are doing - ask lots of questions, deal with the flames and skill up.

QFT Target selection is the key to successful BS piloting. Shoot the small stuff while they approche or set your drones on them, anything else is a waste if ammo. --------------------------------------------------

This is a very true statement. Especially when it comes to jammers, neuts, webs and scramblers (normally all rat ships to a BS). Drones are your friend and must be deployed late enough to not get targeted but early enough to be sicked on these before they lock you out.
The Rattler works great for this, but most any BS should give you the ability to run a flight of lights and a flight of mediums to deal with anything up through cruiser class. BC's can be taken with mediums sometimes.

Yeah I was using a Rokh for missions but gave it up quickly. I recently got a tengu after a good run in WH space. The thing cuts through level 4s much faster than my old BS.

Battle ships are kinda underwhelming. I think it's because we have such high expectations of them from real life examples.
Also they get their ass kicked in pvp rather quickly. Like you said need blob support they mainly appear to be good at alpha sniper platforms. But that takes said support.
