A couple of gripes about artillery fx and looks after the new patch.
First, why has the new 1400 arty have 2 barrels? I could understand if it said twin 1400's but it doesn't. Seems odd to me.
Secondly, just about every weapon in the game had a graphical enhancement (with their fx) in the new patch, apart from arty's. We still get the rather naf, small puff of smoke effect. These are the largest weapons you can strap on a ship (generally)....we should have something more appropriate, like a nice gout of flame after each discharge. Autocannons have flame filled barrels, why not arty's??
And where are the sexy turret animations that the other weapons have?
In all i'd say projectiles as usual have been short changed when it comes to design and fx.
When I saw that Maller in the title screen with the turret animations open up it lasers banks I couldn't wait to see what they'd done with my beloved arty's, can't tell you how underwhelmed I was.
I guess this is the last thing on CCP's mind right now considering what's happening post patch but I feel once again the graphics team who seem to love Amarr ships just couldn't be bothered with projectiles and literally did nothing. Perhaps they were busy with other things, like designing overpriced eyewear.

You do realize we're fitting these over-sized guns to our hulls with duct tape, right? How fancy were you expecting them to look?

AC before patch had a at least a 2-4 cm weapon flash weapon when firing....now its its so small even zoomed you your lucky to actually have a visual flash.....but laser....you get a screen afterglow....its actually pretty poor and very dumbed down from what it did before patch.

1400 always had a dual barrel look
my main problem with projectile design is that 250/650/1200 have all the same look and its a bad one.
and why the **** the barrel on single barrel AC is rotating? also some AC look dont respect they description

I take that single spinning barrel to actually be a spinning heatsink on the outside of the barrel. Something to keep it from becoming red-hot and melting when fired constantly for extended periods. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "If men make war in slavish obedience to rules, they will fail." ~ Ulysses S. Really?....they didn't on my game. On my game the t2 1400's used to have a big fat gun barrel with nice but useless red dots below and above.
So for arty's the weapon looks worse and the new fx design is.....exactly the same as the old one.....great. The fortunes of war, i'll tell you plain, is a wooden leg or a golden chain. |

While heatsinks still work in a vaccuum because of increased surface area to radiate the excess heat, spinning them would have no effect because the heatsink would need to be moving through a medium, like air or water, to improve its efficiency.
