As a pirate i love taking peoples stuff and to be able to take there shirt or monicle from the blackness of space would make me happy (ive got there corpse...i should be able to take there monicle)

If their MT items are in the hanger, the drop just like anything else would.
When you are podded your clothing items are not destroyed. As they cost real money and provide no benefits I think having th risk of loose them every time you undocked would mean that no one would use them, or at least very very few would. I agree that gameplay wise it makes more sense and would make things more interesting, but i think it would limit their appeal too much.
That being said, I have no problem with custom ship paint jobs being destroyed with the ship, I guess the paint job is so visible to other players, by equipping it your issuing a challenge. I think that would add enough appeal to the items. Where as most of the apparel is not even visible on the portrait.

You're the type of guy that keeps stealing my earphones. They are custom-made to fit my ears. No one else can use them without having some serious ear problems after some time. But while they figure out how they can't seem to fit their ears (and dude, they were in someone else's ears! yuck!) I get my replacement pair shipped for yet an other 20 euros.
