It occurred to me, seeing how much wrath there is against the possibility of "special" pay-to-own ships/weapons/whatever in the game, how would this affect the experience of people using these items in the game itself? To put that into context: there are already a few ships in Eve which are rare, and which the word on the forums is that you put yourself at risk to fly one. Many people would gladly suicide gank an uncommon ship just for the status of having one on their killboard. That's human nature, like a birdwatcher spotting a rare species (then shooting it and having it stuffed!). So... imagine there are some special pay to own ships brought in. They cost a huge amount - even more than a monocle - and when the pauper players who have to use regular ships see one, they see both red and green for anger and jealousy. "There's some bratty kid with money" they think, "I'm gonna take him down!" These theoretical ships might be powerful, but not too much so because even CCP realise game combat balance is critical (maybe I give too much credit!). So a fleet quickly forms and unleashes a hail of hate and titanium sabots on the hapless super-ship, which dies in a fire. Net result - anyone flying a super-ship is at extremely high risk of losing their costly transport very, very quickly, and so fewer people buy them. This is just a musing on a possibility but I'd be interested to see what others think about how these worrisome items may become more self balancing over time.

A test of this hypothesis is already in progress. We shall see how successful it is.

Unless they travel in packs for safety. Hell there might evolve whole corps that require use of only the Aurum ships. At that point then, any corps not using them exclusively will be at a disadvantage obviously. Hence the Rage.
