Honestly, the issue seems to be more with hardware unable to run at the advertised spec, though the CQ is pretty demanding. It may be time to reach out to your hardware vendor for a RMA letting them know that their cooling isn't running as advertised.

My Gainward GTX285 1GB Dual Fan (non-overclocked) died yesterday.
The effect started last week with the new eve release and the station environment.
I have 2 clients running in windowed mode and both were in a station. 1920x1200 and 1600x1200. Suddenly the gfx-memory from the 1920x1200 client strangely appeared zoomed on the other screen and shortly the machine was freezing. After that I switched of the station environment and everything was fine again. Yesterday I gave it a try again and had the same effect even when only one client was in the station (with physx disabled and low-quality chars + low quality textures). A hard reset was necessary and this time even the bootup messages (when booting my PC) were corrupted but after another reboot it was ok again. I gave it another try and then the memory corruption (corrupt characters in the boot and text messages) did not went again. Ignoring the corrupted text I let Windows startup but it got stuck in the display driver and the gfx-card fan were at 100% max. Complete power off did not help either.
Today I bought me a new Gainward 560TI and its running fine so far and I had no issue yet but I will not give it another extensive try ..... to expensive.
I can only guess: I don't think that my gtx285 had a problem before, because I was playing Dragon Age and the two eve clients without problems. It may be a driver problem/feature that does not work well on the gtx285 (driver version 258.96) and overheated some part of the gfx hardware (maybe the memory controller) (but with the huge heatpipe of the gainward dual fan gtx285? everything is covered by the heat-pipe)
I will keep "Load station environment" off for now.

Yeah I have a similar issue with overheating on an nvidia GTX280...all of a sudden the GPU fan will start spinning up and i have a GPU temp monitor running in the background, and it spikes from a normal 75c running 3 clients to about 85c for no reason...

Edited by: Mitram on 29/06/2011 22:16:39 I assume that there is some code (shader/physx/cuda code?) that is ignoring the "vsync on" and heating up the gpu for no reason.
An indication maybe also the initial window content when starting an eve-client. All random scratch data from the gfx-memory. (appears also with the new 560 TI)

Edited by: Pyrna Elkali on 30/06/2011 06:15:09 it start to be ridiculous to read "eve burned my computer" parts .... its a fault off non optimisation ( drivert cooling and so) i read a post about someone with 12 fan in his case .... i hope for him it was not all push otherwise its his fault only if his comp overheat.
at last with my comp i have no higher temp even a bit lower than pre incarna (and same cpu/gpu charge around) i run win 7 64 all drivers up to date (again mentioning i have no optimised cooling at all just the standard 1 80mm and generic cpu cooler)
so get real: graphical bug yes (thus i didnt encouter one of the mentioned bug) memory leak yes, low perf on low end hardware yes, Overheating problem caused by a coding ... NO
=> player's fault : airflow non optimised ( oh yes they would say gnahgnahgnah i have water cooling XX fan in my case and so) its useless to overflow with lots of fan (specially if only push => push/pull should be 1push/2pull)also not mentioning Dust, how many of you clean the interior of your pc regulary (i mean ALL the interior wich involve removing fan from cpu cooler).
for the lulz (was written in another post but it never hurt to have more lulz)
i runned a single client optimised settings and CQ active on a Zotac ZboxHD-AD01 minipc (18x18cm size and only the inclued cpu cooler ( a basic aluminum with a lil fan looking like entry level vga cooler xD ) spec : AMD Athlon Neo x2 (64bit) 1.5ghz GC ATI HD3200 embeded gpu HDD 160gig sata2 4gig ram output :1 standard Vga 19" LCD (1600x1200) 30fps in CQ temp 40degree cpu 45 degree gpu (more or less 20degree more than my desktop but figuring the size of the box its quite low)

a code cant overdrive temps reboot/reset limits (it it was physx or cuda all Nvidia cards would have same problems ( eve use physx O.o maybe for carbon clothing otherwise is dont see))
a shader code? well overheating by OC on shaderclock is only playerside and there the sys reboot when temp limite is reached.

As I have posted, countless times before, I am running a i7 960 (3.2GHZ), 12Gig of DDR3 RAM, 2xGTX480, Win 7 64 Ultimate.
This is a setup that can run pretty much any game on my 3 24' widescreens at 5760x1080, the most temp wise I ever see is 90C and that gets beat down fast by the fan speeding up. There are no issues with thermal paste, dust in the system or faulty hardware. Latest Nvidia drivers installed.
CQ almost melts my GPU's, will cause the driver to shut them down and force me to restart. The fan will hit about 4.5k RPM and the temps will still climb up to 93C-94C easily. I tested this on my old desktop, running a GTX295. No issue running CQ at all. I've also read posts from two others with two GTX480's in SLI with a similiar monitor set up to mine getting this overheeating issue as well. This is not just "bad airflow" or fault hardware. The fact that I can confirm others with running two of my cards in SLI as well says to me this is a PATTERN. Now the fault could be CQ based, Nvidia driver based or a combination of the two not working well together in this setup.
But really, to anyone who scoffs at the overheating hardware people complaining, it's a legitimate complaint in most instances I'm willing to bet. Don't be ignorant and dismiss them, read what they actually say first.

My GPU (GeForce Core216) is running with one client at 83ŚC already. I didn't even try running a second client again after seeing those numbers. I think we'll have to get some serious trouble with other cards after this. CCP needs to do something about the code - even with Crysis my GPU won't get that hot! --- "Multiple exclamation marks are a sure sign for a diseased mind." -Terry Pratchett |

i read i read dont worry ... the point is i use a gtx460 on my primary desk and a SLI 480 on my other comp .... and i have no problems on both, hardware fault ok maybe (still why my dual gtx480 doesnt overheat or go above 70 degree ? uh? i dont know) players fault yes surely or the comp retailler who made a mistake there is a lot of cause
still i dont see eve code be in fault except for memory leak, CQ is hardware intensiv right ... but with same configuration some comp have that problems and some doesnt... the only different part in the configuration is : "human user"
(keep in mind two person complain i have same pc configuration and i have no probs in temp or whatever .... again and again problem is elsewhere)
(as posted previously> even rune eve on a netop box with a entry level hardware and basic cooling)

Excellent, someone with the same GPU setup but not overheating. I do have some questions for you, how many monitors do you run? What res? Do you run Nvidia's surround vision feature at all? Stock cooling or third party fans/heatsink or watercooling?
My current suspicion lately is that the issue lies with the Nvidia surround software and CQ having issues with each other. If you're not running the surround vision, this further proves my gut instinct. If you want to message me with details to discuss and compare notes further, please feel free.
I did do a fresh Windows 7 install, with only EVE, video drivers and sound drivers installed and that didn't change the overheating with Surround vision enabled. Odd thing is that the Util is only 70% while the temps hit 94C and cause driver shutdown at some point after running at that temp a while.
Running driver version 275.33.

Thanks for that, lots of good info there and I'm pretty sure it does reveal a bit to me about what might be causing my overheating issue.
I'm running 3 24" Benq (some model) monitors in surround, which spans one 5760x1080 desktop along all three of them. With this setup, my GPU is only at 70% util but 94C as above, if I only run one monitor with CQ on, it uses about 40% with 70-75C temp. I'm suspecting in my case, it's an issue with surround and CQ code not liking each other much.

Well, looks like the patch fixed something. Running CQ now with max temp's of 90C and a much more quiet duo of video cards. The util is rather high for rendering such a small res scene, and it's only one room with one person moving in it which does tell me a lot of optimisation needs to be done, but this is a good start.

Have you actually read what people have been saying? No one is OC'ing, I'm running all my stuff at stock. You either were lazy and didn't ready, you're trolling and being dense on purpose or you have no idea. Pick one. Next time ADD SOMETHING constructive to the topic, rather than the same drone overgeneralising response spat out by others who's knowledge is lacking.

I do however have 8 gigs of DDR2 ram not the best ram in the world but people have been saying thats having alot of ram seems to fix the issues somewhat

12 gig of RAM here, the latest patch seems to have changed something. CCP have acknowledge the issue to me, thanked me for my info and told me it was being looked into.
The issue is that video cards, like humans, aren't made equal. Different generations of GPU's have different instruction sets and architecture. In some circumstances, code could cause certain GPU's to stress in different ways. Some have speculated memory controllers as being the part overheating, that may be true. There was an issue with Starcraft 2 causing a similiar problem I believe as well. Each generation of GPU isn't just "more of the same" to get more processing power, there is a lot of changing and tweaking of instruction sets to get there. My old GTX295 is roughly as powerful as a GTX480, the first being a dual core video card, the second a single core. As a result, they may react differently to different code.
tl;dr different hardware sometimes reacts differently to things. It's impossibly to test software for all hardware combinations, I guess we're just doing the testing part for CCP. Long as it gets resolved, I don't really care.

That's a lot of stress being put on my GPU (GTX480).
Have had to turn off CQ until there's some sort of resolution. --

running a bfg gtx 280 here, normally ran two clients but card is reaching insane temps 90+, just tried turning off one of my two monitors thinking it might reduce the load, sadly it didnt. with one client docked temps were reaching 94 degree b4 i turned off cq.
looking like its not gonna be viable for me to run two accounts any more.
i actually thoght my setup would last a long time yet q9550 with above card but when incarna opens up the stations and multiple characters are walking about, it looks like im simply gonna be out of the game, unless something is fixed,
im already finding myself unable to conduct normal gameplay and switching off.
yeh there may be a way to fix by playing with settings but tbh i really just want to install and play not spend hours debugging the damn thing.
sorry ccp, i like the idea of incarna but it just aint working 4 me literally, .
all i can do is stick around for a bit see what happens.

hi again
have been playing and the following just confused me more.
in the nvidia control panel in 3d settings you can select physx processor.
i changed to cpu rather than auto select and my cpu sat at around 50 per core (quad 9550) and my gfx card rose to 95 with my two clients docked as before ?.
which kinda blows the theory its the physx stuff for me because i expected the gfx card to stay in the low 80s and the cpu to heat up ???.

I had trouble with my card overheating (GTX295) only in 2560x1600 mode. Problem wasn't EVE or drivers though, it was dust. While I did blow the card out frequently, this apparently isn't enough. If this is the extent of your dust check, read on.
I actually had to pry the shield off from around the fan (there are push tabs). Once that was off, the problem was obvious - thick dust bunnies throughout the heat sink. After cleaning it out fully and snapping the shield back on, the card idled at about 20deg lower and ran perfectly fine in 2560x1600 with high settings. This saved me from an expensive upgrade that I didn't need.
tl;dr: Pull the shield off your graphics card and clean the inside thoroughly - blowing into it isn't enough.
