Eve has a player driven economy...
Well it used to anyway.
But now Eve has "incarnatransactions" where you walk around in a closet with a credit card. What other game has that?

All the others are single player games with added multiplayer.
Eve is a multiplayer game with a dash of single player thrown in.

Complexity.
Comparing WoW to a game like EvE, for example. is like comparing 1st grade elementary school to 12th. :D

Pretty much this. Virtually no MMOs actually live up to what an MMO is supposed to be.
Most fee like a very mediocre single-player game hacked to allow a few hundred or thousand players (per server). I have no interest in them becuase I'd rather play a much more immsersive single-player game unless there is real, meaningful interaction between players (like EVE).
Part of the problem I have with the recent events are how CCP seems to be thinking "all the other MMOs are doing it, so we should too!", when the very thing that makes EVE special is how it doesn't do what other MMOs do. -----WARNING SIGNATURE BELOW-----

Easy! In any other MMO "virtual items" are not priced to be more expensive than their real-life counterparts.

This.
"This" what? You ask? This drama. Everything that has happened in the past week is what EvE has. EvE matters to its players on a level no other MMO or game ever has before.
It makes gaming news the world over, when a huge heist goes down it's in the BBC (that's happened). EvE is a big, big deal whether people want to admit it or not.

Complexity you say. The hooks and tricks to make you play are exactly the same.
A small reward based system for pve activities that includes a random element of a high reward in the shape of purple loot. The idea of hitting it bigtime keeps you grinding for hours. The usual character improvement over time system that makes you reluctant to stop playing due to time invested and the feeling of ownership.
Personally I prefer looking at a spaceship than an elf.
Quote: - The skill point system is very unique
You improve over time and can specialise in an area. Sounds familiar.
I agree that Ghost Training was unique ---
I does like have spaceship vids n stuff

Edited by: Whitehound on 29/06/2011 17:51:45 We are here to stay. At least this is what we hope for and that EVE does not become like other MMOs.
It is not as if other MMOs are less fun. One can have just as much fun with a bike or a surfboard. What matters is that it is different. That it is a space simulation, that it has got a fixed subscription while everything is possible, and that it is one huge sandbox with one big community.
It is also a painful game, but I will not talk about the pain. It hurts just talking about it. EVE can be very painful. I feel it right now as I am writing about it. No, wait, I am sitting on something. --

Edited by: Gwenywell Shumuku on 29/06/2011 17:50:52 It was the last MMO that wanted to create a real virtual world, like many wanted when MMOs started 1997.
Now, its just another game that allowes RL to play a part (MT), so that your RL achievements can translate into a game.
For that you don't need a virtual world, you can go play RL.

EvE is an MMORPG, where roleplaying and backstory are always present and always available to EVERY player, even if thats not what they want
It's a single-shard online persistent world, with a player-driven economy that is still larger than ANY other game has come close to.
It has the only micro/macro transaction scheme I've ever seen that can be accessed with in-game currency as well as real-world currency.
It's the only game on the market where the developers don't come flying in to save every crybaby and whiner who lost a ship, got ganked, was stolen from, or lied to.
It still has the BEST communication between developers and the community of ANY game I've ever witnessed.
I've got a ton to say good and bad, but those are some of the prime good points. EvE ain't perfect ... but I sure as **** ain't playing anything else.

It EVE you`re rewarded for not playing the game !
Actually read a forum post where a player was doing over time at his job to earn extra money to buy PLEX/GTC and convert them into ISK, He`s reason was it was easy and more fun then actually playing EVE to earn ISK. When a game makes you work overtime wrather then play it you know it`s a MMO

Yup.
Main differences: 1. EVE has no arenas 2. EVE has extremely slow automatic 24/7 skilltraining 3. Very advanced economy
For the rest it's not that different. Missions (quests), ISK (gold/plat) grinding, Manufacturing (crafting), Standings, Faction rewards, World PvP, corporations (guilds), alliances and such - those aren't really unknown game features to most mmorpg veterans.
