1st issue:
Turret icons are BAD. They are BADLY designed and they DON'T work like an icon should do. Icons are to be an iconic representation of something, not a real life picture in small size. They are not easily recongnizable, they lack contrast and maybe 20 more other kinds of problems.
An icon MUST be recognisable AT A GLANCE. Now people need to stare at them trying to figure what the hell are them. They are annoying.
Please consider a SERIOUS ROLLBACK for the turret icons.
CCP TAKE A LOOK HERE:
Thread about this issue
2nd issue
CQ EATS CPU. And it's completely useless. Please allow payers to choose between the old spinning ship OR this new dread CQ.
3rd ALL ABOUT MONEY
I know that we live hard times and CCP needs more $$, but NE is not the way to really improve the game. The NE is just a way to earn money from some people.
Instead of this, why not open the Jove space and charge for the entry gate access ? Why not charge for custom ship painting ?
But please do not make us swallow useless features pretending us to believe that this thing is a nice feature. It's 200% useless and just a way to earn money.

1st issue: What? You really have an issue knowing what you equipped?
2nd issue: They need us to beta test WOD for them, so why would they allow u the old station view when they can annoy u with a door?
3rd issue: God forbid EVE Online expands ...

I just haven't had a similar experience. Maybe this is affecting people with deficient memories and bad recall on short term memory? Im not sure. Just doesnt seem like something that cant be figured out with minimal effort and a short amount of time.
As for the color contrast on the buttons I use a light grey, this might be something that depends on what colouring scheme you have.

Sorry bro, the author is 100% right. The icons are a disaster in terms of design and functionality. The just don't perform the role in usability terms.
I'm a designer and the current icons looks like they were created by a school boy.
1) icons must be simple, an ICONIC representation of the thing you are trying to represent
2) icons must be VERY visible
3) Icons are not just reduced images of the real things. If you need small "real images" you are talking about thumbnails, not icons.
You don't need to say thing like you said. The post is about something that is affecting a lot of people.
"Maybe this is affecting people with deficient memories and bad recall on short term memory?"
******ed, smartass or a troll ? Maybe you full fill the 3 options. Try to make some useful criticism instead of talking bull****.

Obviously someone who has one of these issues of memory. You people are so nit picky. Play the game instead of crying because you cant remember that your turret is the icon that HAS changed. Grow up.

@Tyme
Are you a dev's toon ? C'mon why are you mad ? Those guys have some reason, the previous icons were much better to see.
I also don't like the way they are now. And there are lots of people thinking exactly the same.
How old are you ? Maybe twelve ?

1) Agreed. Icons are very bad. Old ones were better, but still far from ideal in my opinion. In fact most of the models of turrets are crap too - they don`t look like practical from a standpoint of common sense and engineering. The same can be said about most of the ships models. EVE needs a Big Design overhaul. ) CQ is raw, very raw. It does not replace an old UI of even augment it, it in fact makes it even more troublesome to do your stuff on the stations. Unless there would be a complete replacemnet of old functionaliy with better interface, CQ would be a source of lots of "stuff" hitting a fan on forums. 3) Can`t agree more. NEX is a bad omen. I hope EVE NEVER becomes free-to-play. Armor shatters; Raven`s shadow obscures my sight; Capsule cracks. - Khanid Death Poem. |

The new turret icons are really bad. I hope that CCP fix this with new ones or just doing a rollback. Salvagers and tractor beams are worst ones. Autocannons also looks very bad.

No. They are really annoying. I never complaint about anything in Eve, but the turret icons are confusing. I hope they fix this issue.

In my opinion,
1) The turret issue has actually taken away from visual recognition. Everything from noob turrets to high end turrets and strip miners look completely different and are no longer recognizable to the players, and thus kinda annoy the players by forcing them to check the turret to see exactly what it is.
Most older players used to be able to look at their items and determine exactly what turret they wanted based on the icon and the II indicator over it, but they all look so different now, but yet, they look somwhat similar to each other.
2) The CQ does eat up cpu quite a bit. It has also caused one of my lower grade computers to no longer be able to even load eve to the log in screen due to the lack of shader 3.0. I would assume that this change effected a good few players that cannot support shader 3.0 on any computer they have. The majority of players that I've talked to have turned off captains quarters because it takes too much to run, it has no valid use in game, and the only good thing about it is the tv screens. How about when we turn it off they show just those screens.
3)As far as CCP needing more money, IMO they need to market better. You see tons of comercials for wow and other MMO's , but the only thing I've seen for eve online is a link at a flash game site. They would probably have a ton more players if they would figure out a good marketing strategy. Honestly though, it almost appears that they don't want more players then they currently have cause they may not be able to support it. Hell, look how often places like jita cause a crash of some sort. Now they're adding the capatins quarters and advanced turret effects, so there capacity capability has probably gone down.
Everyone currently in the world of eve loves the game. CCP just needs to figure out a way to get noob players to start enjoying the games sooner. We all had the problem as noobs of knowing that we have a long way to go to be anywhere we want to be. They definitly need to figure out a way to make this easier.

I used to be able to run EVE on my cheap netbook that I'd use to update skills with when I traveled. No more of that
I like the new turrets, though the fact that a lot of the smaller projectile ones are displayed as dual barrels is confusing. Especially due to the fact that there exist actual dual-barreled turrets.
The new icons are too dark, and I agree that a more pictographic look would serve us better. We don't have to go back to the old ones, if CCP absolutely wants them changed, but it would be more convenient for us players to keep the ones we're used to. And probably a whole lot cheaper than paying some designer out the ars for some new ones.
As for marketing, might I suggest CCP team up with Ian Chisholm from Clear Skies, and produce a EVE movie? It could even be done as a collaborative effort on a site like Wreckamovie. (where the awesome film Iron Sky was developed) - - - This signature intentionally left both short and blank. - - -

So honestly, why can't we keep the original icons of turrets just for visual memory sake, and still have some pretty turrets fitte to the ship?
Also, why can't CCP set it to where when we leave our ship in station, we enter our CQ. This not only gives the players the option on whether they want to enter the cq or not, but also has a realistic aproach to it, in that there are several situations in which a pilot wouldn't leave their vessel in a real life scenario.

I think the sutocannons are all multi-barreled (3 or 4... kinda like a Gatling gun), just that the "dual" ones have two sets of barrels mounted to the same turret.
as for artillery, yeah, those should probably have not been called "artillery" -- they remind me more of the WWII naval guns (2 or 3 barrels in a single turret). =========================
