Worn Vanity Items Should Be Destructable

Fix Lag	Posted - 2011.07.01 03:47:00 - [1] Just like everything else in this game. Currently there is no counter to the :monocle: mechanic of asshattery-induced smugness. I propose that CCP changes that. Fancy ship? Boom, gone. Fancy implants? Boom, gone. Loud mouth? Boom, popped. Monocle? Boom...wait what?! He's still wearing it?! Either way I'm outta here when my subscription expires (stuff's already gone, spare yourself the effort of asking for it) so it doesn't really matter that much to me if CCP allows people to act like jerks and not allow other players to do something about it. Fix Lag!

Firstly, as you said, things are generally not permanent in EVE: implants etc. This is one of the best facets of the game. It is what gives meaning to the PVP you engage in. No risk = no excitement. However, I think there are problems with applying this to clothing/eye-wear. 1. The loss is easily avoided by removing/swapping out any clothing each time you undock with the intention of doing something risky. This would be annoying but necessary and greatly reduce the fun of or impetus to buy/wear the vanity items. 2. It will reduce vanity item sales, since people would more readily buy the vanity clothing if they have a feeling of permanence with their purchase. --- You can easily explain the persistent clothing in the same manner that clothing on clothes pre-incarna were always visible in portraits I guess. Either way, much as I will more than likely not be buying vanity clothing (let alone a monocle) for myself, I like that they are there for the people who want them. I just can't agree with you, mostly for the inconvenience factor made in point 1.

As a business model if they'd made the vanity items 1-5 USD and then kept the EVE harshness they were destroyed when your pod died just like implants I believe long term CCP would have made more money. Sure some folks have bought monocles more to make others angry than anything, but once the newness wears off, I don't see folks splurging on the high priced vanity items anymore. With any new product you get most of your sales in the first 90 days.

In this situation, that unspoken rule says that it's ok for the more affluent in the game to grief the less affluent, not the other way around.
