The fact that POS are missing factory and lab facilities is a major flaw in game design imo. CCP stated a long time ago they wanted to make 0.0 more attractive to players so that more of them would go there. By denying POS the ability to manufacture items they pretty much made sure that wouldn't happen.

POS are currently unconquerable if they have ANY active defenders.
Giving them more advantages must await serious nerfs to their defence.

beg pardon? that's a lousy argument to make, not even going to bother explaining why. Yet another transparent "risk vs reward" mantra.
As for why? lol. "exploits" most likely. i recall something along the lines of this reasoning from another group of devs a long long time ago in a game called "jumpgate" - and they STILL don't have POS factories in that game either, and it's been YEARS.
so yeah, consider your POS labslot to be vapourware. actually, forget even hoping and go about waiting until the riot over 12million lab slot rents begins. (hey, people will pay that and more i'll wager)do you know why? because intelligent rich players will realize that CCP will have to change the rent code when people riot? ego sum, it's worthwhile hoarding any lab slots they can get their hands on and wait in absolute certainty that the prices will drop dramatically once CCP give up and nerf the rent hikes - because CODING in something more intelligent would take too much time capiche? understand? And don't listen to the soonÖ crap coming from anyone. your POS factory/lab slots will never happen. ______________________ Best darned links ingame and out (backup) |

The addition of factory modules and shipyards is a must, if CCP wants to push corporations out of empire and into unclaimed space. As POS are now, they make a good refinery station (good because of the ability to place it anywhere) and a good strategic base. T2 production is not truly viable, because the cost is too high. For a corporation to exist in 0.0, it needs Access to both refinig and production facilities.

POS factorys would be great, having to bring down all the needed equipment is tough, whereas building things would be much easier.

not to mention the fantasic dreadnaughts coming. Factory at pos would make small corps being able to actually live in 0.0 Why are you complaining about that? You got more members, more sp and more ships anyway. This will attract easy targets into 0.0..... To boost your ego score boards.

A corp mate and friend of mine attanced the drink with the devs in san francisco. He cornered Oveur for 2 hours and got lots of juicy info, including the release of POS factories and labslots in the future. Factories will come first and not too far away, labslots will be a bit longer.

Edited by: Orb Lati on 15/03/2005 00:19:24 Heres a question.
If CCP ever introduced Factories and Labs into POS's how would you propose to deal with player BPOs if the station was ever captured or destroyed?
Realistically speaking if a station POS lab was destroyed you would have to treat the BPOs as moduals and destroy some while dropping the rest to the conqurers. Would this be acceptable for the player base? (considering the billions of isk a bpo can cost.)
One solution may be to consider BPOS as heavly incripted data and therefore you should be able to remote access the recipe at the POS from a BPO in a NPC station for manufacture or upload research data back to the NPC station based server? This would allow players to research and build in destroyable structures without the risk of lossing those valuable BPOs. Perhaps a number of bpos have to be loaded into "server" container before it can be remotely access with some sort of penalty? To carebearish?

Yes they would lose the bpo. Risk vs reward thingy

If a POS you own, which has a BPO that is being researched in it, continues be attacked...you should be able to get a ship in there and get the BPO out of the station.
A POS will not be besiged 23/7...and if it is and you can't get to your base to get the BPO, well then you loose the BPO when the station goes boom!!!

Eh, keep you BPO in an NPC station and only use BPc in POS factories..
Please throw POS owners a bone and bring the factories in sooner rather than later...
