.. A big MMO marketing drive..
They basically think of it as a form of endless term limited TRIAL...
Steam has a Free 2 Play SECTION, MMO game lists have a filter for FREE..
Everybody wants to be on those "filters" to be seen.
Once the big guns go that way, everybody is sure to follow to compete. To get eyeballs.

B2P (buy to play) is far superior.
MMO report
Start at 12:45 and pay attention to this model. It's worth considering.

I don't like the MMO report, how about a TLDW version?

ArenaNet has a "Buy to Play" method, where you buy the box and play without subscriptions as long as you like. Their pholosophy is that if they're doing their job and creating great expansions people will buy them. If not, people won't and it's their own fault. They also have microtransactions that strictly won't affect gameplay at all. There's nothing you can or will buy that will ever make you more powerful than the next guy. The model provided them with more than enough income from Guild Wars to be able to spend the past five or six years working on Guild Wars 2, which will keep the same payment method.

Erm.... CCP's ****box hardware can't even handle the 2000 people shooting guns in one system they get now. There's no way they'd be able to handle the influx of players that any f2p model brings in. CCP will not make this ****ty game free to play.

Technically Eve already is F2P, for 2 weeks. No change even if it becomes unending limited F2p. Wont change a thing for Eve, it will not be a flood of new customers.
Space is black, dark, bleak, boring. People want more "spells" "action" and "colour".

Oh right, same as Guild Wars 1 then. Its funny that they(or you, not sure) invented a new term for what's basically been the standard way to sell video game content since like forever:)

Well, it needed something catchy to differentiate it from either subscription or f2p.
