I am getting aroudn 30fps in cq and when open a youtube video it gets even worse(12 fps). Once i undock the fps goes up again to the normal 60. I am running eve on max settings with the post processing off.
Specs: Asrock 870 Extreme3 AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.60 GHz(overclocked) ati HD6850(overclocked) windows 7 64 bit home premium
It's not like my machine is bad. I just bought the witcher 2 and i'm able to run it on ultra(without the uber sampling though) at 1920X1080. How is it that cq drains more GPU and CPU resources than the witcher 2 even though it has ****tier graphics and it's only a small room it has to load?

Just a few questions to get a better picture of you situation:
- Are you watching the YouTube video in the Ingame Browser?
- Do you have "Physical Simulated Cloth And Hair" activated (Display & Graphics -> Character Creation Settings)?

Edited by: groentenman on 01/07/2011 15:51:12 Physical Simulated Cloth And Hair is enabled and i am watching the youtube video's on my normal browser(firefox 5.0). disabeling Physical Simulated Cloth And Hair does increase the fps a bit but it wont prevent my fps from dipping when i watch a youtube video. I am running the game in fixed window mode since i tab in and out of firefox, msn and eve often.

OK the fps drop is to be expected, your GPU has to display/process more data after all. __________________________ CCP Sputnik CCP Core Infrastructure Software Engineer

Yes, but i still can't get my head around the fact that cq eats 90% of my gpu preventing me from even watching a simple flash movie. I can't imagine i'm the only one that likes to do other stuff while docked up at the local trade hub. The only alternative i have is to turn cq off stare at the door which is a really smooth move guys. With a game that has a lot of people running multiple clients and doing other stuff while they mine or sit in station i don't expect a single client to eat up 90% of my gpu.

Seriously, this feature has been in development for over 4 years and yet you can't even get it to run smoothly on most machines. Do us a favor and fix it and not just patch it up so it kinda works like usual.

A fix of this magnitude will take months. In the short term all they can do is try to make it as painless as possible. Personally, I think they rushed CQ out the door a little prematurely.

This is not caused by CCP. Flash video automatically downclocks your GPU, thus making the FPS of games drop down. Try it with any other game and you will see. |

You're kidding right? That's the most hilarious thing I've read today. Please show me one credible source of information backing that statement up.
Just tried it then with Minecraft, Sins of a Solar Empire and a few other games. No hit to FPS at all. Checking GPU clock speeds, it doesn't lower it at all. Sounds made up to me.
Doesn't hit my EVE FPS at all either, running Nvidia 2xGTX480's here.

Indeed, I have absoluutly no other issues with running flash video's with other games. I don't really feel like shoving in an extra gpu just so i can play eve and watch video's at the same time!

Interesting.. on my cards (2x 5770) they are downclocked to 400MHz when Flash is running. I have read online that it is caused by Flash, but if I'm wrong then thankyou for telling me. |

Well, looks like i owe CCP an apology on this one. Flash downclocked my GPU clock from 820 to 300(!). I'd advise everyone to turn of the hardware acceleration feature for flash player.

No you cant watch flash from the in-game browser.
also.... LOL at flash lowering your clock speed.
Everyone needs to realize that different graphics engines will drain different amounts of resources. They are using the Carbon UI engine for their CQ and internal space station environment which does seem to be a bit of a Video Memory Hog. Other things such as what resolution you play at, the settings the game is set to, AA settings, all play into it. Now that's not saying that the Carbon UI is as good as say the Unreal engine or the Crytek Engine, and hell it may not be as optimized as them either. So take a chill pill, relax, and realize that everyone is experiencing the CQ pretty poorly. I don't know of anyone in my alliance that is in the CQ at max settings, 1080P+ resolution and walking around at a nice seamless 60FPS. so deal with it.
as for the OP. You may want to see what your GPU is actually doing by downloading GPU-Z and looking at the sensors as you play the Youtube video or whatever flash video you choose while having your game up. you will be able to see exactly what your temps, VDDC temps, GPU Load, GPU Memory Load, ect... are doing with both things running. And of course make sure you have the latest driver (11.6 currently). Also try this now today (07/05/2011) since they just patched the game with a client update and see if anything has been fixed.
