I have a research pos in high sec and I am planning on taking a break for the game for a couple of months and I don't really want to take it down just to have to put it back up agan. Is there any significant risk to offline pos' in high sec? Nobody would war dec because they actually like shooting at pos' would they?

Well even in highsec theres people that just love to shoot offlined pos becouse they can...
All it takes is cheap wardeck and they got week to shoot it down.
If your planning leaving tower up, then take atleast labs, etc that could contain something valyable down, lowers the risk of getting shooted by people that hope they get lucky.

If you are leaving your POS offlined, and with all your anchored modules sitting there, you are asking for trouble.
But if you are in a quiet part of highsec, the risk is low for short periods ( a few months ).
A small POS wont take long to dismantle and put back up.
Depends on how much of a gambler you are...

I suppose if I'm unanchoring all the labs its not really any extra effort to do the towers. Thanks for the advice guys.

Labs once had virtually no HP and if you forgot to online the sphere or if you had your pos go offline then your labs would die QUICK to suicide guys...
I lost 12 labs once to gankers, stunk it did.
Most mods have enough hull to survive with the 99% resist bonus from the tower, labs had 0 hull, few sheilds, and enough armor to take about 1 wave from a battleship.

It is a big risk. especially if you leave the labs and such anchored.
Destroying an offline tower un-anchors the modules that were running off it. once the tower is down another player can scoop the modules and sell them. An off line tower is easy to pop. if there are several labs and other modules anchored to it that they can scoop and sell the profit from popping the off line POS goes way up.
