Without skill bonuses and such:
Miner IIs = 120 m3/minute = 360 m3/ 3 mins
Strip Miner = 540 m3/ 3 mins
The choice is fairly obvious to me

Get a cruiser, a Scythe mines much better a thrasher OR a procurer, and it has room for a little tank and some missile launcher so you can blow up rats.

This is what I was looking for. The procurer does suck but it's temporary, just until I get enough money for a new retriever and then a new covetor.

So you can fly a covetor, but you cant do the "math" on how much a strip miner or two miner II will yield?

an Osprey or Scythe with the mining bonuses they receive will out mine a procurer but you need them fit with mining upgrades to really max there potential. A Rokh will even out mine a retriever with maxed mining upgrades.
Check out this guide Mining guide

You'd be better off mining in a cruiser til you have the money for a retriever.. then train for a hulk and skip the covetor.

Edited by: Richard C Hoagland on 07/07/2011 00:15:21 The Procurer could use some love. As pointed out by others here, it is not particularly good at mining when compared to mining-oriented cruisers. I don't think it even gets the warp strength bonus of its T2 version, not that it would be much better off if it did.
So yes, the progression order looks something like this: mining cruiser -> retriever -> hulk. The covetor is something you'll probably skip if you're sticking to high sec. It can be useful in potentially hostile areas where you want the power of three strip miners, without the potential loss, should you get ganked. Edit: Or if you're poor.

Why would you skip the Covetor and go right to Hulk? The extra strip miner gives you 50% more harvesting than the Retriever which will get you into a Hulk much faster.

Training time I imagine. The Hulk is only about a day or so longer to train for then a covetor. The long train time for Hulk is Mining Barge 5 which you already need for a covetor a retriever is mining barge 3 I think. Once you have mining barge 5 it only takes around a day to train up Exhumers 3 for the Hulk. I skipped the covetor when I was training up hulks. Yes this was posted with an alt. |

Ahhh makes sense. Though not many noobs have 200 million to throw into buying a Hulk, nevermind fitting it
