For some reason i can't bring myself to play EVE anymore. This has happened to me before, and i stopped playing for a couple of months.
At this moment i really can't find any reasons to launch the game client. I simply can't. Specially after trying some other MMO's like Age of Conan, and trying new things on Star Trek Online. I feel as if somehow the latest weeks have really made me quite depressed about EVE.
But, like i said, this is something that has happened before and that i also knew it would happen again sooner or later. I can't play a game non-stop for over one year . However, i also noticed that a lot of my friends lost the motivation to play as well, and the space around my home has been pretty empty and devoid of visitors. It is as if a large chunk of the playerbase lost the motivation and the fire to play.
Is it just my impression? ____________

I've noticed a decrease in players overall (pvp seems hard to come by these days), but I figured it was just summer vacations. For whatever reason, we all get burnout and that's understandable - happens to me every 6 or so months of constantly playing :)

This happens to me aswell sooner or later with almost all games it seems. Some of them I go back to, like with EVE..
I haven't really "played" EVE for some time now though, so I'm starting to get excited to start doing some mining/missioning/exploring etc. again.

My corp just joined an alliance, and I'm finally beginning to wrap my head around this game. Not to mention I'm only 2 weeks from a Tengu and pumped to fly it. So, you could say I still have the "fire" for EVE.

The biggest problem that I see PvPer's encountering is that almost all PvPer's are the "Get There as Fast as Possible" type player who rapidly builds up skills to God Mode where everyone is then nothing more than a balloon that can be easily popped.
My advice for the PvPer's Elite is to begin setting up dedicated websites where you can relate your experiences to the rookie pilot through reading material and comprehensive videos explaining great stratagies that won acclaim and even worse stratagies that brought great defeat.
The Elite PvP'er will at some time in their life give up the fast paced lane of fighting and begin teaching so that new generation's of pilots will remember them as heroes and great champions.
Still others will go back to their rookie status life of mining and soloing mission sites patiently waiting like the panther stalking it's jungle prey for the next module or ship that will allow them to re-engage in being the Champion PvP'er of New Eden.
For the the up and coming PvP'er the game is first and foremost about playing the mind game of PvP with yourself. Don't rush into pvp everytime nor seek pvp every day. Take a few weeks or months off from pvp and play the market, mine run missions, explore the wormhole. Then when your prey least expects it strike at them swift and hard and then leave them to their wrecks while you recede back into the shadows waiting for their next big blunder.

I have been playing Eve since just after beta, and moments of burnout hit me too. I took a break for a year, then came back to catch up with old friends, and see what had changed.
Sadly the vast majority of changes CCP have made in the last 12 months have put me off Eve, and I find myself struggling to justify the sub to stay in contact with people.
Right now I'm logging in merely to change skills and chat. Unfortunately this still gives CCP my hard earned wedge, which is sending them the wrong message, as subs are all they listen to these days. Desperately seeking originality since the first "can I have your stuff" since 2003. |

Lol, thanks for the tip.
However, doubt there's anything that would make me want to play Eve again. About 6 years is long enough (have played other MMOs during this time as well as) , maybe it is time to look for something fresh.

Yea I have 4 accounts that may run out of game time soon, its several reasons for me.
- Destruction of 0.0 for small groups, we spent allot of cash upgrading our small area of space just to have it made completely useless by a CCP. Still after 4000 posts they donÆt think its worth there time to talk about that change.
- Incarna, sure I donÆt mind vanity items with AUR but the whole thing makes me serius questioning the game in the long run. And if you donÆt play eve for the long run its hardly worth it (for me at least) I just having a hard time to trust CCP
- Summer, shouldnÆt say it doesnÆt matter, it does.

Perhaps try other games. I always come back to EVE. Because it's one of the most INTRICATE games on the planet. My sub is not running out. In fact, if I ever win the lottery, I am flying to Iceland, and I'm gonna knock on CCP's door, and buy THEM all a beer or 10 for sticking to their vision. EVE. The most ambitious project on earth. |

Read as far as Age of Conan. I have played that game since launch. Funcom has nothing on CCP when it comes to service, expansions, product development, balance, client stability, or anything that make a game a mmo.
Well ya, i did read the whole op. But really? saying anything is worse then AOC, is like saying dog crap is only worse when not stuck up my nose.

Well, myself and alot of friends are struggeling as well. The "vision" is gone, the trust in CCP to make EVE a better game over time is...just gone.
And tbh, the rest of the game is in pretty bad shape. EVE never was a game for a quick funny hour, and carving out an empire is, atm, with this cap-online madness, not even fun anymore.

Edited by: Mutnin on 07/07/2011 10:23:43 I'm pretty close to getting there I think. I used to love undocking in a Vexor, Myrm or Cane & going out soloing, but now days we all know how that goes.
The last month or so I've been joining quite a few of the better gangs in FW and we have been getting a lot of GF's. I mean hell few days ago we have a fight that lasted over thirty minutes non stop.
Yet even that is still not the same as jumping in a cruiser or BC and not knowing what you will run into. The problem is now days, is it's either dead as hell so if you find anything at all no matter what you suicide into it or you just get ganked 2 jumps into your roam.
Seems the fun times or at least the stuff I liked to do for fun in game is no more.

I've suffered from burn out, lack of interest in Eve. It comes and goes. But the reason I keep coming back to Eve has nothing to do with the gameplay - it's the people that play and the people I talk to in game. (Most of whom I have never so much as seen in system... except maybe the "Local" list.)
Get to know people, not just your corp or alliance but everywhere. Let's face it, the gameplay in Eve isn't going to suddenly jump up and scream "EXCITING!!" after you've done all of the various things a few times - heck, CTAs, massive laggy slugfest fleet fights are what burned me out the last time.
Sitting in a hulk with pretty lasers smashing glaciers is just something to do that is vaguely more productive than sitting in a station, but really I guess I'm using Eve as a 15 (dollar/pound/euro/lira/krona/etc) chat client - with options to do other things sometimes too.

I keep leaving and then coming back, for some reason, but every time I do I wish I'd kept my skills training. So that's it for me really, just keeping my skills training but not playing much. More interested in the drama than the game play tbh. If 0.0 wasn't so hideously broken with supercaps and sov then I might be more interested, but not as things stand.
Really just hanging around until Guild Wars 2 is released. But also in the shorter term I'm really looking forward to Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Battlefield 3 and Skyrim.

I¦ve been playing for about 6 years(last alt account here) and had my share of burn outs and time-outs, but this patch is by far the worst. Mostly because of CCP¦s general blindness and incompetence, I¦m not sure at all I¦ll even return again.

since then the eve fire is kinda burning out, one of my mains is the ceo of a 150man corp and all was well til incarna, now all the guys with more than 1 account are complaining that they have issues runnig them due to incarna. i have issues running all mine same reason and looking at a door is depressing. add that to the summer general drop of intrest and attendance is low, which makes me care less and that makes corp attendance lower. wish i could roll eve back to before incarna, for me and my corp. it was better before that crap

I still fly a bunch of missions and 'im still new to the game but i joined EVE hoping for years of fun. When that leaked letter came up with "greed is good" as their motto, knowing they are using EVE money to develop 2 other games and seeing 5 minutes of ****** content (walking in a room) i started to think how bad this game will be in 1-2 years.
They are not giving up on all those hideous ideas on the newsletter. They will just chill a bit while the masses are infuriated, but slowly they will introduce all of those things. Honestly im waiting for StarWars and Guild Wars 2.

I still have it, but then I just came back from my first real break of eight months, where I unsubbed and everything.
However, I remember the old vets, the '03/'04 players, from years ago, who would always tell me how amazing the game was when you could warp through null and it was rare to see another player, and T1 cruisers were the beasts of PvP, so... when I see activity around me, my friends, my region, my impressions, dwindle considerably, I always hold out hope for the thought that, EVE never needed a hundred players in every system, and it was evidently quite a wild frontier when active players were few and far between.
So I for one, will never grow cold on the game simply because activity levels dwindle overall even if it is because CCP sours some of their own subscriber base through bad PR, I will only grow cold on it if something new comes along, that gives me the ability to be a space noob again, with a satisfactorily high learning curve, cuz I do not want World of Evecraft 2.0, I want EVE Online 2.0, and something like that will inevitably come along in the years to come, it is just a matter of time.
But, until that point years from now, EVE is the game for me.

I am at the same point as the OP.
The fights are boring because the outcome can usually determined by raw numbers. The intel gathering is too easy for a variety of reasons despite recent changes. The old school, therefore fun, pirates are almost all gone. I miss gladiator and herald ransoms. Most of the current crop of mercs are terrible and unethical.
If you don't like a part of Eve such as stations games, remote rep douchebaggery, smartbomb gatecamps, etc then you merely avoid them. No whining necessary.
CCP has broken the faith and doused the flame. It's going to take an effort like Apocrypha to reignite it.

It happens to me too. It happened the first time in March 2011, when I had both accounts lapse for one month. Then I resubscribed both accounts, but nothing ... Alt is already lapsed and my main is going to end at the end of July. In order to to "waste" the time I bought I only log in to change skills, but even that seems a hassle.
I was an avid player for more than 2 years, eagerly logging on daily for many hours. Then one fine day it dawned, EVE is just a game! You get NOTHING out of it, on the other hand, it takes away your precious time! But even that was not the reason I quit.
It was the fact that my expectations were not matched by the real experience I got out of the game. I had expectations, an image in my mind of what I wanted to do, how to do it, etc, etc, etc, but when I got to do it, the reward was not as expected; it was just normal, nothing else.
As some of the other players in this thread have said, I'll be back, but the fire is gone.

I've totally lost my love for EVE lately after 6 years of playing. It's not so much the game but more the fact that I've been playing way more than normal in the last 6 months and I've just about had enough. I'm gonna let my accounts go inactive and maybe pop back in 6 months or a year and see where the game is.

I brought 6month subs for this game. I'm not convinced its actually an MMO at all. I've spent my first 46 levels solo (well, I have a skeleton as a pet, doesn't chat much).
Can't really beat EVE and the fact that once you have access to scramblers and webs and MWDs, you are instantly 'useful' to everyone. 4 more grinding solo levels of tedium to go before the MMO part of Rift kicks in.
It does have its spontaneous moments of fun though (when Rift opens up and people PUG to close it), but often, unless you are in a capital city, you rarely see people.

I think everyone I have ever flown with regularly in PvP has quit - heh that came out well mmmm?
Seriously though I think pretty much everyone I know who was active in 2009/early 2010 has quit. Most of them after several years subs. Some were burnout, some were fed up.
Anyway Incarna hasn't done anything at all to halt the slump in PCU - if anything it has accelerated it. Oh and no its not summer or holidays or anything else seasonal - the drop in average online users is pretty linear over the last 6 months and is happening on all timezones.

It's summer. People are going outside and enjoying the weather.
Wait till September or when it starts getting colder, you will see the player base increase. This also happens around Xmas, it gets slower because people have other obligations.
As for people leaving to TOR or Rift, those are amusement park mmos, if that's your thing then Eve is not your game. There are several sandbox games out there, but none are as advanced as Eve. TOR has stated they are looking at Wow really closely. Going back to a wow clone with a space feel does not excite me.
I stay in eve because of community. If I wasnt part of such an amazing corporation, I probably wouldnt be playing. But I never want to go back to those amusement park mmos, they are just aiming too lowest common denominator.

Well, every announcement of late has the word "Aurum" in there, and you wonder why ppl don't believe CCP anymore?
Form my old group we are 2 ppl left, and the last one is about to cancel as he is no friend of MT in general. He was an active FC.
I see EVE getting problems once all the ppl who invested alot of time on projects lasting years (making corps, planning wars) leave. Casual gamers will have no fun in EVE once they realize they need ppl who make all the wars happen.
Well, i will watch where this goes, but my hope is low. CCP bets everything on MT, and they can lose it all. They seem to only see the positive sides of MT, and ignoring the fact where all the MT games are after 3-4 years...

more people should be online because many are on vacation during summer. additionally, there has been a steady decrease in subs over the last 6 months. lastly, no one is leaving for TOR and RIFT. people will leave EN MASSE for TOR and GW2. MMO gamers are bored. half the people who play EVE are there because there's nothing else interesting.

Not this time. The PCU peaked early January and went into rapid decline from there.
If you go look at eve-offline.net you'll see the cause - a succession of expansions since early 2009 that are lacklustre to say the very least.
Recent events are on top of that discontent.
Frankly Eve is pretty crap these days. PVE is (as always) appalling and PvP is unwell to say the least. I'm not going into the QA/testing side of things other than to say that by any metric its awful.
Comes a point the molehills become mountains in players minds, Eve isn't far off that.

Most eve players play the game too much and burnout is inevitable.
Try limiting the time you play this stupid game to 1 or 2 hours a day and maybe never more than 6 hours at a time say on one weekend day and take the other weekend day off. Think about it, even that is a lot, too much really unless you are really without RL.

I'll take that bet. How about 2 billion? . Adapt and overcome or become a monkey on an evolution poster.

I switched to mountain bike, camping and photography. And (back) to LOTRO: it's f2p thus doesn't require $15 x 3 subscriptions monthly + 3 PLEXes per toon per 3 months* just to look good.
EVE accounts have 5-10 few days left - maybe I'll reactivate them if/then there will be new/interesting content. Present grind is too boring and too easy to replace with few PLEXes converted into ISKies.
* I bet there will be new NeX items every few months while present set is plainly ugly.

The latest shenanigans have merely served as a catalyst to help me see how bored I've become with Eve over the last 8 or 9 months. (Quite frankly the only thing that kept me going was the NC defence against PL in Tribute).
When I started playing I'd rather hoped Eve would be (or evolve) into an online/electronic version of that old masterpiece Traveller
Sadly, it looks like Eve will never approach that level of sophistication (and CCP, Eve is not, despite your marketing, a sandbox by any stretch of the imagination).
Maybe some other product will excel in 5-10 years time?...
My GTC card runs out on 26 July. Me and my main are offski.
Clear skies all.

Nope, this time it¦s different! I totally blame CCP and their callous insistence on this unpolished client. And the total disregard of the player base¦s input towards the shaping of EVE¦s vision&future.
I¦ve been playing for about 6 years(last alt account here) and had my share of burn outs and time-outs, but this patch is by far the worst. Mostly because of CCP¦s general blindness and incompetence, I¦m not sure at all I¦ll even return again.
Well, i wouldn't be quite so blunt.. but what you speak is at least partly the truth for myself as well. Maybe you can call it broken expectations, since i really had high hopes for the summer expansion. However if you ignore all the fuzz, the expansion didn't really added anything.
You can say that summer and winter expansions bring the necessary fuel to keep on playing for another 6 months. But this expansion added nothing of value.
Don't get me wrong. Incarna (the project) is nice. What sucks is Incarna (the expansion). Not even a gift ship this time, hehe.. ____________

The footprint and stability of the latest client 'upgrade' put my plans that I had spent months (and a couple billion non-plex isk)on hold as it made it nearly impossible to run the three clients anywhere near what they were before. Even two clients was suddenly pushing it. To that end I am now back to my single account which runs out at the end of the month.
Add to that all the bugs that never get squashed I feel like the effort has all been wasted for what is now clearly a step away from what the game was and is, with a hope for a future that doesn't even seem likely (hell, even CCP didn't know how they were going to pull this stuff off during the tournament IX interviews on DUST).
The last account runs out at the end of the month. I'll check back with a trial account in a few months and see if the bugs are squashed at all, but I'mnot going to pay another dime if this crap continues.
. I'm as mad as I can take it and I'm not going to hell anymore!
I have reassigned my money for CCP to other projects for the next 18 months... |

I started playing a lot more recently now that I discovered what incursions are like. I never bothered with them up until one hit my home system last week...mostly I was just logging in, doing some PI crap and changing skills aside from a once a month pvp roam. - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring |

I'm training up skills for carrier right now, when I'm done with that I will wait for a new test server mirror then log on to fool around with my new Carrier for a bit, then unsub from Eve.

Originally by: Renan Ruivo For some reason i can't bring myself to play EVE anymore.
Is it just my impression?
i can't speak to everyone else's reasons, but for me my play time started declining when they released the PI expac, i stuck around but that made 2 patches in a row designed to make the game harder and more time consuming, then after incarna and zulu's screw you for not being smart enough to appreciate virtual pants costing more than real life clothes, i lost faith in CCP, then came their PR statement and for about 20 mins i was thrilled, then i read their following blogs about how we wont see anymore of the incarna features for "awhile" and then i remembered the last time i heard that answer it was almost 2 years ago at this point when they were giving us a date for the fixing of lag and dominion, awhile became 18 months and then dominion was swept under the carpet with pi and walking in stations being better, i just cant justify playing this game when all they use it for is a quick buck to fund their other stuff, I've started playing rift and perpetuum and between the monthly additions they do in rift to add content and the amazing lvl of customer service from perpetuum i just don't see any reason to stick with eve, im down to 1 account now from 5 a year ago and i don't know how much longer ill have even that, i just cant believe they killed eve to fund 2 other games, they have almost 0 preorders for dust and no interest in their other work in progress.

I stopped after Incursion. Figured that if CCP was resorting to disincentives in order to get people to use their feature, then it was time.
This is my last remaining alt, running down the clock.
I still have hopes that EVE will lure be back in, but I'm skeptical. Null-sec alliance warfare is too much of a time commitment to do anymore, and without that, there isn't much to do. As I posted earlier today, EVE is devoid of any sort of classical content, unless you like Extravaganza missions.
EVE owes it's success due to the fact that it stands apart from other MMOs, but it hasn't learned any lessons from other MMOs in what works either. It's why EVE continues to be a niche game and lacks broader appeal. CCP could address this, and they could do it in a way that still left the core feel and mechanics of the game intact. But for reasons unbeknownst to be, there isn't a plan that I'm aware of that addresses that.

Figuring out how to fit and fly different ships for pvp, is what really got me enthused for eve. The idea of planning and then executing these plans sounded like great fun. The problem with the game is that 99% of the kills have very little do with how the ship was fit or flown. Because when you are fighting 3v1 odds you are going to lose regardless.
I joined fw and hoped that going into fw plexes would help me avoid getting blobbed and bring in some decent fights. This method does prevent you from getting blobbed but it takes a long time to find fights. You find only about 1 fight per 2 hours of waiting and warping around solo.
I could join a gang, of course, but then your chances of finding similar sized gangs for a decent fight becomes less and less.
I used to join large gangs that would catch people on gates etc. But that got pretty boring. When my most important ship fitting is a sensor booster that helps you lock fast enough to get on the killmail before the enemy explodes, the game is pretty bad.
So after a few nights of passing up other activities to play eve only to fly my ship around and around never finding any action other than blobs I decided it wasnÆt worth my time. Why figure out ship fittings and tactics to fly the ship when none of that will matter in the actual game?
Someday I know ccp will try to make fw work well for quality small gang pvp. But as of now fw was ccpÆs only attempt to try to bring quality small scale pvp, and it remains broken.
Right now it seems they like mechanics that encourage people to blob up so CCP can advertise some 2000 v 2000 player battle. While I agree that is neat, not everyone wants to wait months for a single big battle.
I am buying plex and I will let my account sit unsubbed for however long it takes. If CCP gets something that yields decent small gang pvp I will resub. But that does not appear on any sort of roadmap that I can see. This latest mt deal thing doesnÆt really effect me much. Although itÆs depressing that CCP tries to associate eve with scuzzy people like mittani etc. I think CCP plays that ôYay for me I am a scumbagö angle a bit much with their pr and it really turns me off. So it doesnÆt help that they started bringing mittani into the whole issue and even had mittani at the ccp press conference.
Of course, he was there because they know eve is his life and he will do anything to kiss up to them. But the scumbaggery is still a turn off.
