Sony just announced a direct competitor to DUST - Planetside 2:
Now first of all, YAY! Planetside 2!
Given that CCP made some sort of deal to make Dust available on the Sony Playststation 3 only, are they feeling a bit stabbed in the back by this? Will they reconsider the "No PC" stance?
As many have pointed out before, surely the fact that their console shooter links up with their PC mmo, makes it a no-brainer in revenue terms to try capture the (vast) PC shooter market as well? |

Edited by: Gwenywell Shumuku on 08/07/2011 10:05:09 Its only good news for Dust Players. Why? Competition is good. EVE needs competition, too. All this condecending behaviour as of late is just because they feel too save.
Now, they will jump into shark infested waters, lets see how that turns out.
P.s. they won't release it for PC, not before they have no other choice. Pride is a b.itch. |

Edited by: voiddragon on 08/07/2011 10:06:17 AMAGAD PLANETSIDE 2, I LOVED THAT GAME.
Edit: I don't think it will hurt CCP's profits. Planetside was a subscription game, dust is F2P. My guess it'll be the same as what everyoen does with their console FPSes. They play whatever they feel like that day. COD one day, BF the other, Dust another, planetside the remaining days... :P |

FYI, like planetside before it, planetside 2 is probably going to be a PC game. I doubt it will come out for ps3.... |

That's the point. They aren't. PS requires a subscription and will be PC only. DUST has no subscription and will be console only. The only thing they compete for is the advertising space in the gaming magazines. |

They even say in their FAQ on the planetside 2 page that they haven't posted the business model yet. You don't know that its going to be a sub game. |

Actually I was thinking in terms of scale. Planetside had hundreds of players in a single battle. Given console history/limitations, I don't see a console MMOFPS as scaling to that level.
Either way, neither game has posted enough information to draw much in the way of conclusions.
tl;dr *shrug*

While masturbating over the prospect of Battlefield 3 and Planetside 2 I'd almost completely forgotten about Dust.

This is great news for us the consumer why you may ask. Competition breeds innovation= BETTER PRODUCT FOR CONSUMERS. Now CCP have to be on their A game this is the best news that could've happened for Dust players like me. |
