I want to build a POS to have access to a mobile lab. I'll be anchored in Hi-sec. What size tower should I use and is there a racial preference? Yasir

I don't know, what size tower do you need and what race's tower would benefit you the most??
Ever tried googling, or, god forbid, looking at guides on the subject beforehand? --------------------

Google searches cost extra, people! I understand it's difficult for you, though, so I may discount it if you prove mentally deficient |

He does have a good point :) Industry is a LOT about doing your homework so he really isnt trolling as such.
should get you started
Then look at how many research slots you need, how many labs that is and see what posses can fit that. Then calculate the fuel cost, logisitics and so fourth and so on.
or for the lazy, get a large caldari tower (most cpu so can fit the most labs).

Only thing that doesn't really mention is hyasoda labs, an epic arc reward which cost 160-180m (dunno really - been a while since I checked prices) and have a different/better slot layout than the advanced --------------------

Edited by: Greyson Wolfe on 12/07/2011 03:18:23 You have a thread on page 2 or 3 from Fritz with a lot of pos set up.
All the racila bonuses can be seen on the item database.
The choice of the size and on the pos itself will result from few consideration.
How many labs you want there, will you want do anything else on your pos.
Caldari pos are the one with most cpu, so generally it's a good pick for a research pos.
Some people do Pi and mine ice so they are not independant on fuel and they, then, choose the racial where they are installed.

Thanks you Linda for the link to the great thread! Sorry to ask a question that is repeated over and over here, but in my defense I've been working 12 hour days, 6 days a week for the past 2 months and researching POS's on the forums cuts into time with wife and kids. I probably should should just quit Eve, but I really need the escape sometimes. Thanks again for the info. Yasir

If you don't have time to research it properly, I wouldn't recommend running one. They can turn into timesinks if you aren't careful.

Hi
Caldari is the best as it offers the most CPU - so you can online the most labs with it
If you can fill up all work slots on labs and keep them running nearly 24/7 then large POS is a bit better fuel consumption to number of labs wise
Good luck with your research -

It depends quite a lot on how many science slots your characters can make use of. If you only have 2 characters then you wont be able to make full use of even a medium POS.
In terms of security I would hesitate to put down a small pos even in high sec. If your corp members can keep their mouths shut and not draw trouble onto you then a medium might be ok. A properly set up large POS in high sec with POS gunners means that you have to make a lot of people loathe you before someone can be arsed to kill it.
Also you might want to play around with a POS first (on Sisi perhaps?) I've ran them pretty much continuously for two years or so and, imho, they are not fun and are a significant time sink. You will almost certainly want at least an orca if not a freighter to fuel them with.

Caldari Small, Mobile Lab, 2 Adv Mobile Lab, Component Assembly Array Slots - 7 Copy, 7 ME, 3 PE, 9 Invention.
Use it until you get your supply chains, logistics, markets, and management information sorted. Then go get a medium tower and really learn to hate Excel.
If somebody declares war on you, unanchor it until they go away.

It is a decent setup.
I like the fact that you picked a Component Assembly Array, as they are great for storage (I use one too, and I have a large tower).

In hisec use caldari. The size is up to you to determine what size you can utilize. You can put up a pos in hisec and will go forever without being attacked. Put up a bunch of guns + ecm and you will be fine.

It sacrifices the copy slot, but gains 1 M.E. + 1 P.E. + 1 Invention.
You can repeat the arc every 3 months to get another.
The Caldari arc, Penumbra, is primarily courier missions, with a couple of combat missions that are around level 4 difficulty. I've done it solo in a Raven and a Tengu. There are some courier missions that send you into lowsec or nulsec, so a covert cloaked ship makes those easy. It takes me about a weekend to complete.
You have to make sure to take the right missions to get the lab: * Penumbra Flow Chart * Caldari Epic Walkthrough - Hyasyoda Mobile Lab reward
You need 6.8 standing with Expert Distributions _or_ with Caldari to be able to talk to the starting agent Aursa Kunivuri in Josamento (Nugoeihuvi Information Centre Beacon).
Note 1: You will be required to shoot some Gallente NPC, resulting in some faction drop. I usually do Sisters of EVE storylines afterwards to recover.
Note 2: All Expert Distribution stations have 50% facilities, and they can be found in every faction's space, so they are useful for refining.

Caldari small tower! Just be warned, POS's winge like small children and need feeding regularly.
Getting your standings high enough to anchor one is a pain mind you.
