Edited by: Valei Khurelem on 12/07/2011 07:29:38 Edited by: Valei Khurelem on 12/07/2011 07:26:17 Okay CCP, I know you love money, I know you want to make money, I know a company like yours is going to want to spend it's profits and I'm not naive enough to believe that being given the same amount of money I would want to spend it on $1000 pants though since I have no taste in fashion I would probably spend that much money on games and anime or a nice new and shiny computer so I can get more money.
BUT.....
What is it that is honestly making you think that making Dust PS3 exclusive and put it on the playstation network is a GOOD idea? Their security was compromised by Lulsec which appears to be nothing more than a bunch of teenagers or young people in their 20's who think it's cool to go around wrecking other systems. Do you seriously think that people are going to hop up and down in excitement over spending stupid amounts of cash for a defective piece of junk that's going to be obselete in about two years and on top of that have to pay money for you only to have their all their information stolen from registering to the playstation network and then not even be able to play the game for a number of months while Sony try and fix everything. You in the mean time will be unable to do anything because you won't have control over your intellectual property and you won't have any control over the way the network is run, you will also no doubt have no ability to move out of the contract because I'm almost completely certain you've signed it under terms that won't allow you to.
As for micro-transactions, it should really never have been done in the first place. Why? Because moving over to micro-transactions means you aren't developing a game anymore, you're developing a business model. I'm not going to sugar coat it and pretend that the path you're walking is filled with flowers and trees like a select few players seem determined to, the fact is, if you've checked out Sony's history you'd know how they treat the competition they buy out. You'd also know that just about every single company employee that has gone under sony has not kept their jobs, they screw over games and make people agree to ridiculous terms that will ruin everything and then come in playing heroes who rescued these games from incompetent developers.
The fact is, the road your walking muddy, lifeless and filled with horse ****, just because it happened to the games Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, Star Wars Galaxies, Everquest 2 and Planetside, doesn't mean you're immune from it. In the end you're going to slip and fall and it will be Sony who will be pointing and laughing at you for your mistakes. I'm sure the other Pre-Cu SWG players who took refuge here can smell their work already, let's not make the mistake of thinking all corporations are made up of light hearted non-monopolistic scumbags bent on taking over this industry and getting rid of competition okay?

You know who you idiots remind me of? All those ex-girlfriends who call me years after we've broken up to tell me how much of a doodiehead I am.
If CCP is anything like me, their self-esteem skill just trained to level 5. Like a broken record that skips just at the right moment.

Here, I'll tell you where CCP went wrong.
CCP Person 1: Let's make a first-person shooter. CCP Person 2: Yeah, let's make it a sci-fi FPS too! CCP Person 3: You know what we could do? We already have a storyline and universe written up for Eve. Let's save some time and money, and have it set in the Eve universe. CCP Person 4: Let's make it awesome and integrate the two in-game universes, so that our new FPS players and our Eve players interact with one another. That way, we can have planetary interaction be fun and entertaining!
The critical flaw here is with CCP person 4.
CCP Person 5: You idiot! You're talking about making a MMO first-person shooter. How the f***ing hell do you expect us to make money on it!? As soon as we charge a subscription to PS3 gamers, we slash 99% of our market share! CCP Person 4: Geez man, just do microtransactions. Worst-case-scenario, if the projections show that we'd have trouble paying for our MMOFPS just in microtransactions, then we can always crank up microtransactions in Eve.
In short, all those monocles that cost more than machariels are just CCP's latest attempt at seeing how much extra money they can make off of Eve MT, to support Dust514. Not to mention, CCP gets to get rid of a lot of outstanding, unused PLEX (which, to their accountants, is known as 'unearned service revenue', basically money we have paid, that they have probably already spent, and they have not yet rendered services for (such as game time).
Still, I believe that the answer lies within the future vision trailer. By announcing that Dust514 is a PS3 exclusive, CCP intentionally creates a huge demand for PC Dust514, among Eve gamers. Then, with parts of the code they used to build Dust, CCP launches an expansion, bringing us combat in stations. Kaboom, demand fulfilled.
There's no other reason they would have spent so much time and effort on Incarna. Let's face it, Incarna and 'walking in stations' was probably the biggest single time/money sink for CCP ever in the development of Eve. If walking in stations doesn't become combat in stations, then it's all just a monumentally stupid waste of time and money.

Someone ordered a punchline?
I'll just leave this here: Youtube of some interesting parts of SOE Fan Faire
SoE, PC release, MMOFPS, coming soon. Not new news, but maybe to some. Worth listening to closely as there's some interesting parallels. If it has a PS3 release, then it could pave the way to building a mindset in gamers that will help DUST to catch-on, but not if the game is PC-only. No word on the "business model" for this game yet. /me ponders just how much SoE are watching these forums lately to gauge reaction before decising on business model for their new baby?
*we live in interesting times*
