Rig: Acer Extensa 4420, Athlon 64 x2 1.9GHz, 2GB ram, Windows7 32bit.
I used to run EVE on this laptop but several patches ago eve stopped opening properly. It downloads fine and installs fine but when i try to open it all i get is the initial loading screen and then nothing. The process will continue to run but the log in screen will never appear. I have tried updating java, and c++ which were both recommended to me last time i asked about it.
Can anyone help me???

I am experiencing a similar issue. I launch EVE and I get the splash screen, then that goes away. If I look in the Task Manager ExeFile.exe (I believe that is it) is running. If I shut it down and try again it repeats itself. I have tried launching the game both via Steam as well as by directly launching the .exe in the EVE folder structure.
Just this week I upgraded my system. Prior to that I was able to connect and run EVE without issue. I have gone from Vista 64 to Win7 64. I suspect that it has something to do with the Win7 firewall, but reviewing the exceptions list, EVE is listed as an allowed program. I read somewhere else that the Win7 firewall may in fact be blocking another service that EVE relies on to make a connection, but I am not sure what that might be.
The only other thing that I can think of is that before updating the system, I backed up all of my Steam files and then restored them once I got the new hardware up and running - maybe something happened there. I do not think this is an issue because the .exe starts without error, but it just hangs.
Are there any other suggestions that might help?

You may want to remove (after backing it up) your profile settings. I have had this problem before and it turned out to that the eve log in screen was appearing completely off screen as if you had a second monitor and it was appearing there. you should be able to leave the char_xxxxxx data behind. Edited by: Malcom Dax on 19/07/2011 19:58:22 Just had the same problem with the splash screen appearing and then nothing else. I had my 'My Documents' folder (which presumably contains some eve data) on an external HD which was not plugged in. Plugging this in solved the issue. Thanks to shady trader for the comment about profiles, which put me on the right course.

I had the same problem, fixed it last night by copying the client from another pc and running dxsetup.
