Originally by: Akita T Well, that's debatable. Also, the vid maker probably hasn't had too much actual EVE experience. You can already "buy (that sort of) power" in EVE (cash->PLEX->ISK->CharBazaar->high-SP char), although it's not exactly custom-tailored to your liking. And even if you could buy (more) power in EVE, the fact you can always just use ISK instead of RL-cash (and the fact you can make oodles of ISK by *NOT* grinding but using your noggin' instead) heavily diminishes the severity of any "buy power" offers.
Not true, Dan has been an avid EVE fan since Day 1 of these videos, he constantly gives shoutout to EVE for doing good game design decisions, this is the first time he's had to criticize it.
When Dan says NEVER SELL POWER he's speaking generally with EVE in mind as the catalyst, when he mentions level up faster perks hes not referring to EVE, but other MMOs where it would be feasible. For EVE it WOULD be arguably be selling power and would be against it.

Weeellà he gave EVE a pretty swift (and well-deserved) kick in the nuts in the tutorials video as well. ùùù ôWe want to try this thing called micro-transactions, but we don't know what it is. Can anyone explainà aw screw it, let's just do it! What could go wrong?ö ù ÇÇP |

CCP should take their collective craniums from their nether regions of darkness and actually learn this. This is how it should be done.

Good video overall. Two thumbs up.
The dearth of low cost NEX items and the extreme prices for the debuting items is likely a CCP experiment in gauging the market and perhaps more importantly, keeping the PLEX prices stable by reducing demand for PLEX that goes into NEX. I'm almost sure there were some discussions on it internally (because it involves PLEX), possibly with some number crunching from the statistic folks - to arrive at some figure which would fulfil the above criteria.
Now, numbers are just numbers. It's a neutral figure without any context applied. What's interesting to note however, is how they failed utterly at assessing the EVE community's response to it. CCP did not apply context, but instead looked at the numbers.
Despite the Incarna future potential and the works done by team BFF/Gridlock, EVE has been fairly stagnant for the last 1-2 years. This latest (Incarna) expansion is another failure ... which follows Tyrannis's footsteps, whether CCP wants to admit it or not.
What you have for all the above is a recipe for fire. The glowing embers (from the last debacles and years of neglect) just needs an ignition point. Coupled with the EVE community's long memories, it doesn't take a hell lot to trigger another incident.
Well, CCP's making a reputation for itself for these sort of gaffes, almost consistently without fail. Expect more to come in the future

Just to be fair to CCP....Even though they did screw up the pricing on monocle, so far they have followed the guidelines given in this video.
AUR/PLEX can be acquired using in-game means other than MT. And the process isn't even that slow.
So far you cannot buy Power using MT. In eve power was always measured not by quality of gear, but instead in-game or social skills.
A person who buys PLEX using $$ is still very even with person who is not. They can buy the most expensive ship ever, but they can also lose it within 5 minutes of undocking if they dont know what they are doing.
They also did not create two populations at odds with each other. Plenty of people actually appreciate those who buy PLEX with $$ and then sell it in alliance chat for example for something like 5 mil cheaper than market price.
MT wise, CCP has a pretty good idea what they are doing so far. Its communicating their intentions is where they failed at. I bet if CCP released something like this cartoon instead of leaking Fearless and writing nonsense blogs, the playerbase reaction would be alot more positive.

You still suppose their intentions didn't match with what they communicated. WAKE UP. They are not 5year olds who can't express themselves. Backpadeling is not "getting communications right", its "revising my previous opinion".

That was actually a really good video, aside from the fact that the guy's voice was like a humming bird pecking at my eardrums. I would be interested in reading CCP's perspective on this.
If any of them should happen to swing by. And if you're reading this, you've fallen into a signature trap. You owe me 1m ISK. |

Good request. On top of that, the video would've been spot on without referencing to EVE Online.
I like how people still think it's communication CCP failed on. Sure, in regards to Fearless. This is however not about Fearless, it's about MT in general. In which case whoever runs this at CCP needs to get his head out of his ass (and stop playing WOW and Farmville).

Agree with video, a very obvious point not made, but very relevant to CCP is re-investment.
As the video said, players are content. However, developing game content is content. If there is nothing new to experience, the sense of value is lowered.
Having a strategy to near gut the new content development process in an existing product to fund other products and happily chirp on about :18months: seems insane.
Nearly as insane is using your existing product to force users to experience/test technology/content for other products.
Breaks every model of value and trust you could imagine.

Something that would be interesting with the Character Bazard would be to have the option to take away all the SP from the character bought and transfer them on your own character, but maybe to avoid 300m SP characters maybe limit the transfer to toons with less than 4-5m SP. This way, you do not buy the reputation that the seller might have hide from you.
