Please pass on my compliments to Tony. I recommend everyone get it in Eve. I enjoyed it a lot and will most likely read it again. I cannot wait for Templar One. Will that be released in December?
Is Hjalti working on another book too? I enjoyed the Burning crusade as well.

Troll detected. Easily the most rushed, horrible ending to a book ever.
As for Empyrean Age, I've read that through three times now. It's bloody awesome.

Argh, I'll have to disagree on Empyrean Ages for the simple reason that it has magic in it.
A capsuleer walking on a non-capsule ship shouldn't be able to "feel" or otherwise be in touch on the quantum level with the ship's systems. And don't get me started on the psionics/telepathy thing going on.

Edited by: Kumq uat on 14/07/2011 21:26:40 My biggest problem with Empyrean age is it violated basic rules of Eve and suffered from the common problem in sci-fi of making stuff up in order to save the day without it really making sense.
As a fellow writer I understand the yearn to do that sometimes but stories are so much more compelling when it does not work that way. If you are going to write in a world that is not yours then you need to conform to the rules of that world and not insert tons of new stuff that makes little to no sense unless you are doing a silly comedy piece like I did with the Dear Diary: The Misadventures of Gurristas Arrogator.
Not saying I still did not enjoy reading it, I am just sayin. --------------------------------------- www.eve-pirate.com original author |

Agreed!!! I loved Empyrean Age.
I would like to see all the Chronicles released in a collection, someday, for those times when I'm unplugged.

Empyrean Age is a good read. I read it twice. I personally like the 'psionic' theme and find it fits into the Eversum.
Can't recommend the Burning Crusade unless you have an Eve lore fetish, because the description of the Eve backdrop to the story is brilliant. The story itself unfortunately isn't; it's so fishy that it hurts.

Off the top of my head being able to light a cyno in Yulai and the super gun for the Abbadon. There are others but those are the most glaring examples. If they had been followed up with having an active part in the Eve universe then maybe but they really don't. They were put in there to make grand weapons and battles but they don't really work in the greater scheme of things. Again, not saying I didn't enjoy the book, just nitpicking on stuff that bugs me as a writer. As a reader I am sure it was fun. --------------------------------------- www.eve-pirate.com original author |

Abaddon supergun led to events that tie directly with the Apocrypha expansion. Events that were the reason behind wormholes opening and closing all throughout new eden. Also, Tony is envolved with the further advancing of EVE's background at this time.
Also, YOU cannot open a cyno on empire space. That does not means its impossible. Just remember how after Incarna we had a capsuleer Titan on Motsu. Server bug? Sure.. but tell that to the little people that live inside CCP's servers and were terrified by the sight of it in broad high-sec.
On top of all that, magic is the technology of the ignorant. Just because you don't know how, doesn't means that there isn't a perfectly logical explanation. ____________

Then that logic needs to be explained. Even if it was a suicide fleet taking out a cyno jammer in Yulai. You don't just waltz in, threaten Concord weeks before the fact, then light off your cynos in their home system without some way to trigger those events. Just makes no sense.
As for the super gun I must have missed that part of the story so I will let it slide. There are still many holes there. My point is if you are writing unofficial silliness then you can get away with pulling stuff out of your ass like my series I wrote or Clear Skies etc. These books are official Cannon and therefore have to work within the universe by the rules of that universe. It just requires a bit of extra forethought, effort, and creative writing. --------------------------------------- www.eve-pirate.com original author |

SPOILER ALERT
--------------
It's CONCORD who prohibits cynos in highsec. Since the Minmatar/Thukker Fleet was perfectly willing to shoot up CONCORD anyway, I highly doubt they give a damn that CONCORD will (try to) kill them for it. -------- Enemy corps raided into disbandment: Three.

You mean Cowboy-EveBop??? The crew of the Beebop, er... Retford [??? - hell kind of name is that], with Jet, Spike, Fay and Edward? - Oh sorry Gears... mixed with some other bits from every sci-fi movie from the Fifth Element Gallente President to the Dune Duke of Amarr? - wait, it had an original EVE fictional part somewhere... oh thats right, the cover. To the people singing the praises of The Empyrean Age, I would simply say that you should widen your reading list a little. The book is absolutely terribad. Every character in it has the same personality, they all swear pointlessly and have the mentality of an adolescent, there's a completely contrived **** and in the end the most interesting and enigmatic character in the novel (the Broker) is simply forgotten about.
It's immersive and a page-turner for any Eve player but only in a purely pulpy way. It's to science fiction what Mills and Boon is to romance, or Dan Brown is to Theological History. Tripe! |

and this.
I have read both books and really didn't enjoy either beyond the ties to EvE (which were often kind of tenuous) but, sad EvE addict that I am, I will continue to read any others they produce :P
But as per the poster above me, anyone saying this is a well written book needs to read more. .
