I live in northwest indiana, about an hour from chicago...
was wondering if anybody could recommend a tattoo artist that is really good with lettering/text, its my first tattoo and all the artists i know are very very vehement that if u want ur tattoo to be text/lettering u should get somebody who is really good at that specifically.
any help would be much appreciated.

I dont live nearby but come from a family of tattoo artists. Shop around for a day or two in Chicago-bigger cities usually mean better artists. As for the artists style, just ask if they have a portfolio, the majority of tattoo artists have a large photo album displaying their work, and will usually be able to talk to you about the ink you want and if there is another person who is more likely to do it. But be warned the uberleet fancy artists who are WAY to good to talk to customers or spend their time showing you that they are worth the cost of the needles and tubes. Good luck!

When you're old and wrinkly, you'll regret how ridiculous it looks on you.

Such a narcissist. Do you really think when hes 80 years old he's going to give a fuk what anyone else thinks?
All thru my teens and 20's and 30's I lived my life how I wanted, and I didnt give two ****s of what anyone else thought. To Caldari Operative- Dont ever live your life trying to please people you dont know or who you'll never see again. Get your tat and be proud of it.

He asked for advice, I gave him advice.
It's not about what anyone else thinks, it's about what he thinks. I know two separate people who've gotten tattoos in their 40s in an effort to feel young, and they're both now in their 70s. One of them makes every effort to hide it and never talks about it, the other one openly criticizes how horrible it looks.
If you don't think you're going to feel like that in the future... Go ahead. -------- Enemy corps raided into disbandment: Three.

I agree with this up to a point. You'll never please everybody, but don't go and be an ass-hat to everybody either.
I don't have a tattoo, but been thinking about one myself. I want it to be special since I have a crippling phobia of needles. I want something to commemorate getting over that fear.

When he's old and wrinkly - given then rate of advancement in medical technology I don't see why it wouldn't be quick and painless to remove whatever he does get.
I too, want more ink and I too, live in Chicago. I for one, welcome our tatt'ed up overlords. ^_^

Best advice? Don't ask for tattoo advice on EVE forums.
Check some local reviews or other tattoo communities for the best avice. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why do people insist on doing this all over the internet? He's not asking if you think he should get a tattoo, he's asking if you know of any good places to do so.
Also, old dudes with tons of tattoos look ****ing rad.

Tip. Ask some bikers in the area who the best local artists are.
And yes, I am serious.
20 year olds with "tribal band" bull**** on their arms wont know a good artist from a horrid one. Some artists specialize in portraits, some in sleeves, some in lettering. Do your research, and dont be cheap. A good artist will charge 100+ an hour, because they are worth it. The moron on his back porch charging 25 bucks an hour will give you exactly that, a 25 dollar tattoo.
Just say no to ****ty scratchers and hacks.

Edited by: Jak Silverheart on 21/07/2011 05:28:52 Edited by: Jak Silverheart on 21/07/2011 05:25:47 Where ever you get it, make sure it's easily hidable because of jobs. I know with my profession I'm going into I have to look professional and if I had tattoo's it is generally required for it to be covered or be appropriate and even than it's still looked down upon. And this seems to be the trend with most good paying jobs these days it seems.
And for advice on what to get, make sure you take into account what it will look like when your old or fat, or both. So that cute half naked biker girl tattoo may looked good on you now, but will it look good if you put on another 50pounds and she gets wider too.
Ohh and I fully agree witht he people saying do you research and get a good tattoo artist. I've known some people get those done at home prison tats kind of deal and they look like **** generally, and they only get worse with time. And I've known quite a few who didn't get a good tattoo artist and it game out bad too. Though the people I know who did take time to look into it, got some really nice tattoos that are even I will admit are pieces of art.

Riiiight, so I guess you only have non-showing tattoos then?
Anyone who gets a tattoo that is visible clearly is getting the tattoo to show off. You can claim it is for you only as much as you want but we all know your dirty secret. You're framing it that way because you yourself are the attention ***** so that's the perspective you view this from. People can get visible tattoos and not care what other people think, perhaps they just like seeing the tattoo themselves. I've considered getting a ring of flames around my *******, but that doesn't do me a whole lot of good since I can't really see it without squatting over a mirror. So, I'd rather keep getting ink that's visible to myself and anyone else that might notice / is also into ink.
