yesterday we have had visiteur in dramiel. 3 people woke up and spent some time to catch him. We are carebears just FYI
After 30 minutes of "cat and mouse" play we returned home. No kills, no losses, only wasted time. He went to hext system.
Next to it we got cynabal coming. We took place near the gates. Drake + cloaked arazu. Well. He went straight to next gates before i could lock him. And to next system and far away.....
So i want to know: is it that great and glorious "PVP" many people are playing for? For me it was looking like wasting of time. It's like sitting in station and spamming into local "you can't catch me! Go and try! I'm faster!".
One more time: pvp isn't present in Eve....

Edited by: Meditril on 15/07/2011 14:33:19 Your statement is a typical wanna-be-PVP players statement.
PVP is not like NPC ratting where your pray simply waits for you to come and slaughter him.
Real PVP means that usually your prey is hard to catch, even though sometimes the prey comes to you by itself but this is the exception. Another aspect of PVP is that it is not always clear who the cat and who the mouse is. This can change fast and a prey can easily turn into hunter while youself end up as pray.
So get used to it, a big part of PVP is waiting, hunting, baiting or fooling someone which can also be enjoyable and thrilling if done right.

I don't think OP is complaining about PVP from the perspective of what they're doing (they admit to primarily being a carebear), but commenting on the fact that the two pilots in the Dram/Cynabal who are "PVPers" seem to be doing anything they can to avoid a fight.
I agree that the avoidance of combat is kind of stupid. I know that it makes sense and people don't want to lose their shinies... but isn't the point to have fun?
Just last night I engaged in a 1v6 in my Hookbill. Yes, I got blown up, but I took three of them down with me before I did and it was a great time. Completely worth the loss.

You need to at least give the other person a fight they have some chance of winning. There's a bit too much of the undocking a hurricane for frigates syndrome in eve.

Lose the zu and I am sure would get plenty of fights. No kiting ship will engage any gang with 20km+ scrams

Pretty much that, I've been badgered many times for not fighting ships far superior to my own either individually or in numbers (often both). Before you start pestering people about running from such "fights" you should ask yourself if you'd go for it if your places were reversed. If the answer is no, well, that's why they ran.
If you want a fight, you must scale your ships and gang size to reflect potential opponents. I'm not saying you shouldn't try to give yourself an edge, but do so covertly or make it a very minor edge. A fittings/implant/ganglink edge is often best as people can't tell if you have it till you start shooting.

When your prey comes to you, and it's probable that they know you're there, it usually means that they feel confident of the result, i.e. they think they can take you.

CCP says eve is a pvp game, and yet they make death penalties so high that in fact no one wants to engage unless they know they will win.
Yea... I know right?
Edit: INB4 LOL NEWB go back to everquest.
EDIT2: hey if you want pvp where people will always engage and there is no death penalty, replace your eve shortcut with the test server shortcut.

QFT. This whole whining about everyone flying nano to avoid fights is so hypocritical as it always comes from exactly the types that expect people to engage their failblobs without a remote chance of even killing something.
Of course they themselves will run away as soon as they have less than a 2:1 advantage, but thats fair I guess.

You only way to get something resembling "on-demand" PvP is to fight at a disadvantage consistently. The sandbox and non-consequence free nature of this game makes for excitement, but it also means that the majority are risk averse. Which is fine, but leads to a lot of downtime if you want nothing but "fair" fights.

thanks to all made reasonable answers here.
however main point was: what do you go to 0.0 sec for? You do it to fight? Or what for?
Yes. i know: drake is OP. But as i'm carebear i don't want to have full rack of Eve ships to engage enemies when they visit MY system. Yes i have falcon, lachesis, taranis fitted and never used. Just to play =)
You know: as carebear i have 2 options when danger come. 1) dock and go afk (buuuu!) 2) take something and go fight ("grow some balls" and other crap).
With "smart" modern strategy i haven't any options except dock and go afk. Because if i take drake a lot of enemies will not fight. Ok. But what ships i have here? - My carrier? You will not engage it unless you get hot drop to me with big gang. And i don't want to warp gate-to-gate to find target. - My shiny expensive ships for 10/10 escalations? I use tengu so again: no one will engage me. - My industrial ships? lol....
Last days i fill ready to pvp. I even go and fight with 100AB tengu when it comes here. Yes i can loose this drake but i already have bought new one. So no problem. And every day we have visitors. But no fights....
And this is how this thread appeared. I really want to know: what do dramiel and/or cynabal pilots want to find when they go for targets?
After all: "risk vs reward". Reward is here (wallet is fat). However i don't see any risk....

Looking back on the app thread I made for my first 0.0 corp, it was "to get spacerich and blow up other people's ships."
Quote: Yes. i know: drake is OP.
No, it isn't. It's just that, well-flown, you counter a lot of FOTM ships out there.

Why does the OP assume that the players in Dramiel and Cynabal were there looking for combat? They could easily have been there for some other purpose. Lots of people fly everywhere with no intention of doing any PVP and will always run away if they see enemy ships. Just because I'm in a Drake in lowsec doesn't mean I will want to punch your lights out even if you are in a much weaker ship.

Chances are they were just running around looking for soft kills. If you want them to engage, you have to give them a target that looks easy. A drake sat on a gate that locks them up is dangerous (and one cannot have danger when pvp'ing, that'd be sad and stuff and means you might risk losing your ship ); a drake merrily ratting away in a belt in a quiet system looks much less threatening and will probably get their interest. So go off and pretend to be harmless and lonely and distracted by NPCs in something that will murder them if they take the bait. A dualweb nano drake should work - warp to top belt, shoot a few rats to create some wrecks for a little verisimilitude, and wait.

Actually, no:
The Drake is not even close to overpowered--it's arguably one of the best-balanced ships in the game, especially considering how limited the fitting-strategies are for a "typical" PvP Drake, said fittings being heavily biased towards tank over gank--IE, 1 LSE II, 2 Invuln, 3x CDF Extenders, because of CPU limitations (no way missile-rigs are going to fit without implants and/or slot gimping for instance. Ganglink requires a CPU mod in a low, Tech II HM/HAM launchers require giving up a BCU for fitting reasons--again, CPU--dual nano-fibre HM Drake (my personal favourite) either loses DPS (-1 BCU) or EHP (-1 DCU II), again due to fitting limitations. Want more EWAR? (Say, a nice Target-Painter to help those T II Fury missiles out a bit, along with a web?) You've just sacrificed a huge chunk of your EHP, on a ship that doesn't really make up for a lack of same all that well in other ways.
And even with these fitting limitations, and inherently less DPS (compared to, say, a Shield-Cane or Shield-Harbi--The latter's DPS going into your tank's weakest resist!), it is still one of the game's most versatile and incredibly useful ships. If you make your money through PvE'ing, especially.
Lots of people fly it, because it is so useful, easy to fly, forgiving of mistakes, and doesn't need umpty-billion fitting, tanking, and weapon SP to be useful and effective, so it was only a matter of time before more people started PvP'ing with them, and winning, which led to all the gank-bears screaming for a nerf at present, when it is the ship that arguably needs one least.
If anything, it could use a slight CPU and power-grid buff.

Not with T II launchers and a MicroWarp-drive, afaik (AB might be something else, but painfully sllllllooooooow).
This is one "Brick" fitting I've seen, though not tried myself--653.75/656.25Tf CPU, and that's with near-max'ed fitting skills (All mine are at level 5 save Shield Upgrades, which is at 4):
LO:
DCU II Power Diagnostic System II 2x BCU II
MID:
Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon MWD (these cost nothing now) J5 Prototype Warp Disruptor 2x Invulnerability Field II 2x Large F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction (T II simply ain't gonna go)
HI:
7x Heavy Missile Launcher II (Free hi slot--no CPU left for anything, but you might want to have an offline salvager or whatev')
RIG:
3x CDF Extender I

Yeah, I know your sort. I have much fun with guys like you. You're the sort of cretin who rages at the solo player who frustrates his gang's attempt at a cheap gank. You're nothing but a despicable coward whose idea of a good fight is merely a killmail at the end of a one-sided gank.

Yeah getting a frig will be a brilliant idea against a dramiel or cynabal, how exactly does getting alot of loss mails make you a better pvp'er? Really it isnt like the combat mechanics in eve are so hard, having the right ship for the job is alot more important.

Simple issue was more they didnt have enough people, if you want to kill a dramiel you either need a bait (AML drake -> kill dramiel), or you need a ****load of people who camp gate on two sides with bubbles in both sides and very fast tackle.

As regards the first spec':
The "typical" 1x LSE II/2x Invuln II/3x CDF Extender fit has about 10-11,000 more EHP with not too great a loss in DPS (although this fit projects ca. 400 DPS with good skills right to 75km targetting range, **** yeah, I like this!)
As regards the second spec':
This will work with a +3% CPU implant, and has ca. 97-98,000 EHP, but is rather limited operationally and tactically (I'd really only use it for a larger gang/fleet where you have a surfeit of fast light- and heavy-tackle already, and you're really just there to hurl missiles from halfway across grid. The extra EHP would certainly help against a similar fleet's alpha. That scrammer can make for a nice "Ummmm...Urp?" moment for any over-confident quicky-fasties who get too close to the 'noob Drake-blobber,' though ).
For very large fleets (50+ pilots) I'd just drop the scrammer for a T II EM resist-amplifier (+3% CPU implant needed), ca. 107-109,000 EHP depending on skills. (A Medium F-S9 Regolith Extender will also fit if you use a +3% power-grid implant, but will have 10-12,000 EHP less. Plus, for whatever reason, that particular module has become as expensive as a fully-fitted cruiser recently ).
That's the beauty of the Drake--for those who don't know them, they seem limited, but, within it's normal roles, they are so incredibly useful, and incredibly versatile overall plus easy for newer pilots to get into and take advantage of that versatility.
That's also why Battle-cruisers in general, are arguably the best ships in the game, by the way.

There are only two reasons PVP ever takes place in EVE.
A, The enemy thinks they are relatively assured of victory usually because they have some sort of ace up their sleeve (like SC group on standby for a hot drop)
B, they have no choice
That's it.
The trick is to make them think that A applies to them and B applies to you. Then when they bite the hook you spring your trap and you find out who had the bigger hole card.

I normally never even consider saying this, it's so gratingly juvenile and used-to-death, but in this case, you soooooooooooooooooooo totally walk right into it:
U MAD, BRO?
(Because you sound mad. You really do.)
Oh yes, you got me. I'm mad. Real mad. I'm doing cartwheels of rage right now. And, to top it off, I've just been on the receiving end of a fresh, original and highly cutting internet meme. This, sir, is a humiliation I shall never live down! I shall take a razor to my wrists immediately.
Is it down the river or across the street? I never do remember...

Because EVE has celestials as warp points, pvp interface is basically pretty horrible.
PVP should get a full expansion to bring new dimensions on it.
I agree OP, it's F U C K I N G boring to have pvp in EVE. Gazillion megamillion hours and scans after you might find one target and even that logs out. Wee. Epic fleet flights an all that crap

bah I was trash talking the poor noobs too much... let them do their thing... Arguably my opinions represent to an extent the opinions of my alliance and in particular circumstances give rise to a valid "casus belli" claim. |

CCP says eve is a pvp game, and yet they make death penalties so high that in fact no one wants to engage unless they know they will win.
CCP thinks the only PvP worth doing is massive, lag-inducing node-crashing sov battles that most eve players won't actually take part in (because they don't want to). Of course people can't avoid these fights without losing their space or at least having to come take it back.
But in a solo/small gang situation, what do you care? You're just there for kills and tears. So they run away, dock, logoff or cloak until a better situation comes along (however long that may be).
So the small-gang/solo types resort to alts, log-on traps, and the general empire greifing of noobs who haven't learned all the game-breaking exploits like they have.
And CCP keeps ignoring this for 0.0 because they can release trailers of huge, epic, "I was there" space battles.
Next time somebody moans that removing or changing local would be killing the game, think about this.

Lots of people fly everywhere with no intention of doing any PVP and will always run away if they see enemy ships. Just because I'm in a Drake in lowsec doesn't mean I will want to punch your lights out even if you are in a much weaker ship.
you know: low sec is little different than 0.0 region 20 jumps from high-sec..... this is like to say about guy with gun came to bank: maybe he visited bank on his way home from weapon shop?
I used to be in a corp with a guy who was obsessed with killing anyone on sight, on the grounds that if he didn't, they would undoubtedly attack him. He didn't seem to understand the irony of this self-fulfilling prophecy. Dramiels are good ships for getting around lowsec, they are nippy and if they get snared they are capable of putting up a decent attempt at escape. Other ships are taken there for all sorts of reasons other than for PVP combat. You speak as if this never happens, yet I have done it myself, and if I do it, so must hundreds of others. What you claim is pretty much that "if you're in lowsec you must be a pirate" which is nonsense.
