I've been playing EVE for just over 4 months now (+- 4,5mil SP). I've been working towards acquiring a Raven for what felt like 2 years. Up until yesterday I've been using a Drake to successfully complete all Level 3 Agent Missions Solo. Eventually, yesterday I was able to purchase a RAVEN for the first time. Everyone new to EVE can imagine how excited I was. I equipped my ship, and immediately set out to find the lowest Level 4 agent (quality -18).
I'm still suffering from shock of what happened to me. This was my first ever death in EVE. I know DEATH IS SUPPOSED TO COME TO US ALL, but I'm still not sure how it all went down. I accepted the mission, warped to the location, and 30 seconds later my pod was floating in space. The total value of my loss was approx. R 190 Mil ISK, and to top it all, I only insured my ship for 50%. What a complete idiot I am.
I had two warp core stabilizers equipped, but was still unable to warp away from the onslaught. Why would this be?
Can someone please tell me if level 4 missions are supposed to be done in a group, or can you actually do them solo?
I now have no decent ship (Ibis), only 54 mil ISK insurance payout, and have to literally start over again. I am so unmotivated.....
I guess I should stop complaining, and get back to fighting pirates again. I suppose I should buy a Drake again, and slowly work my way up to 190 MIL ISK again.
ANYONE OUT THERE WANT TO DONATE A RAVEN?????

No it wasn't. NPC rats won't pod you.
Quote: I know DEATH IS SUPPOSED TO COME TO US ALL, but I'm still not sure how it all went down.
You flew a ship that you could fly, but didn't have the skills to fly effectively. And you expected that ship to be as sturdy as a Drake. Your ship got turned into Swiss cheese.
Quote: I had two warp core stabilizers equipped, but was still unable to warp away from the onslaught. Why would this be?
Because you got more than two points of warp disruption on you.
(Why the heck are you equipping WCS for anyway? Those low slots can be put to much better use.)
Quote: Can someone please tell me if level 4 missions are supposed to be done in a group, or can you actually do them solo?
They can easily be soloed, if(!!!!) you're flying a ship that you can fly effectively (i.e. your have enough weapon system skills to use Tech 2 guns/launchers, got enough tank, etc).
Quote: I now have no decent ship (Ibis), only 54 mil ISK insurance payout, and have to literally start over again. I am so unmotivated.....
Don't fly what you can't replace.
Buy another Drake, do Lv3 missions (and eventually lv4 missions) while you wait for your skills to rise.

ANYONE OUT THERE WANT TO DONATE A RAVEN?????
Suggestions and Opinions that may help:
1. A well skilled Drake > A poorly skilled Raven in level 4 missions.
2. Stop training Raven skills other than active tanking skills. Forget that hull unless you have long term goals to fly a CNR or Golem.
3. Use your Drake in level 4 missions while you train for an active tanked Tengu or a Nighthawk. Meanwhile perfect your heavy missile skills. Much more mileage than cruise missiles.
4. Consult threads like this for fits.
5. Do not listen to trolls that tell you a Drake does level 4 missions too slowly. Try it yourself.
6. If you do not trust my opinion, brick fit your Drake and then slowly replace tank with gank module by module until you reach a mix you are comfortable with.
7. Thank me later for saving you from putting all that wasted sp into cruise missiles.

to start with, a proper shipfitting is very important. The facts that you had warp stabs fitted and your bs that died in 90 seconds tells me this wasnt really the case.
For now stick to running lvl 3s in your drake, while you train up more skills for a commandship (nighthawk), tech 3 cruiser (tengu) or a raven. To fly a ship properly, you will need the skills to fit at least all your modules tech 2, plus the capacitor skills to run em all. you will also want the corresponding ship skill to lvl 4, caldari battleship in your case.
As for doing lvl 4s in a drake, it CAN be done, but its far from efficient, and your probably better off blitzing lvl 3 missions.

Edited by: Celeztia on 16/07/2011 22:45:32 I use a active tanked Raven 3 x CCC rigs all low slots with cap recharge mods capacitor power relay x 2 capacitor flux coil x3, one X-Large shield booster, 4 x shield harderners they change for each mission as far as what type of hardner. and one shield boost amplifier. 6x Cruise launchers, salvager and tractor beam. With this fit and the right harderners on i have had no problems tanking any level 4 mission. And it is cap stable if you train for T2 mods. IF you would like details in game mail me.

To make it short:
1. Do fit T2 launchers. If you can't do that because of skills/money: Don't fly a Raven, it's a waste of time. 2. Do fit shield hardeners/resistance amplifiers (tech 2) against the type of damage you're expecting. Don't fit shield extenders on a missioning ship. 3. Do fit at least a large shield booster (tech 2). 4. Do fit ballistic control units and power diagnostic systems in your low slots. 2/3 to be safe, 3/2 for more damage. 5. Don't fit any armor modules on a shield-tanked ship. 6. Don't fit a damage control module on a shield-tanked PvE/missioning ship. 7. Don't fit warp core stabilizers on any ship that you expect to fight with. These things are for running away only, and not very good at that, either.
8. Do bring T2 drones when flying a Raven. Don't bother flying one if you can't. 9. Fit rigor rigs for better damage projection against bc/cruiser sized targers when using cruise missiles. Do not fit flare rigs on a guided (cruise/heavy/standard) missile boat.
So:
High 6x CML II 2x Salvagers/Tractors/Drone Link augmentors/empty/whatever
Med
1x Large or XL shield booster II 2x rat-specific shield hardener II 2x rat-specific shield resistance amplifier II 1x 100MN afterburner II
Low 3x ballistic control unit (II or faction) 2x power diagnostic unit II
Rigs: 3x warhead rigor catalyst I
Drones 5x Hobgoblin II 5x Hammerhead II
Might not be cap-stable, but usually kills things quickly enough that they run out of ships before I run out of cap. Only run the shield booster when necessary, turn it off otherwise.

@OP:
Couple of thing you could have done better:
-- Never fit warp stabs on your PvE boat; let alone 2! What you did was waste 2 perfectly good low slots that you (obviously) needed for tank. Besides, the way to break warp-disruption/scambling, in PvE, is simply to kill the rats doing it, fast -- with your drones, most likely.
-- Kill first what harms you the most. In my Tengu this would be the elite frigs and such, as they can web me, and therefore can severely compromize my speed tank. I take them out first, and am not in the least bit worried about battleships, that only do like 9 dps damage.
In your case, those battleships will hit you a lot harder, though. If you need to take some of their dps off of you first, in order to survive, do so first.
-- Learn aggro-management. If your ship can't tank the entire room, don't p*iss off all rats all at once. Read sites like eve-survival.org to see what you can best tackle first.
-- In case you have don't do yet, train up all required support skills (cap, shield, etc).
-- Drake can tank any lv 4 (except Enemies Abound 5/5). With a 3x CN BCU setup, you can do plenty damage. Dying in a lv 4 in a Drake is not something that should normally occur. It's true, though, despite what you were told earlier, that the Drake is not an ideal lv 4 mission runner.
-- Lv 4's are easily soloable. I'd say, train for a Tengu (but train all related skills well). You'll zoom thru any lv 4 with the greatest ease. Seriously, if I get even 10% shield damage, then that is already insanely much. Normally you're as good as invulnerable to the rats.
N.B. Out of curiosity, what mission was this?
