Okay I understand the 15 min global aggression timer. I was in a fleet and involved in killing a target in low sec. I waited the requisite 15 min and the aggression timer countdown went to 0. The FC decided to head a couple jumps through highsec to reach a few more lowsec systems and then 0.0. I headed to the rally point jumping high sec and warped to the next gate and as I was waiting for the slower fleet members to catch up so we could make the next jump I was jumped by the NPC Gallente navy not Concord thankfully (I have a +4.29 sec rating with them) I ended up warping backward and into low repping my shields needing to find a place to rep armor. I then tried jumping back into high sec and was greeted with a warning (one I did not receive the first time) and sure enough the navy showed up following me around system till I went low again this time I had another 15min timer I waited out although I never fired a shot. As I had fallen behind the fleet I said I was leaving fleet and did so then I warped to gate and jumped repeatedly for about 8 jumps back to Minmatar space getting that warning every Gallente gate I jumped. I have not tried going back into Gallente space since that point and I had no issue outside Gal space. Anyone got any suggestions as to what was/is going on and why if I had no countdown timer the npc Navy but not Concord was shooting me with positive sec status in Gal space? Could it have been a glitch that was one of the reasons they reset the server a couple times later in the day and nothing to worry about? Hopefully it is now resolved as I want to be able to move between Min and Gal space freely however it is a situation I want to avoid repeating as I was lulled into a false sense of safety by being in high sec and then the Navy nails me however had it been Ammar or Caldari I would understand in fact Ammar want my head.

There are these things called paragrahps. They make text easier to read.
Like this. See, it's easy. It sounds weird that you should be shot at with a positive standing unless your security status is very low.

From your post i gather that you agressed someone in low sec and got the red global countdown timer and then waited out the 15 mins from that.
The answer is that there are other timers that you need to be aware of. The GCC timer is 15 mins from the point where you committed a crime. When you commit a crime the gate and station guns begin firing at you. Every time that they fire at you your timer with that faction begins again. If you jump into high sec you will then be agressed by that faction navy.
Typically your countdown timer for the gate guns/station guns will be longer than the GCC timer because they are more recent than the crime itself.
If you look at the top left hand corner where your red GCC timer warning shows up and you run your cursor over that you will see all of the other timers that are currently running. The faction navy timer usually shows up as yellow rather than red once the GCC timer is over.

Thank you. What must have happened is the faction timer had not timed out. Now I know what to watch for next time. This was only my second run with a fleet outside of mining and one of a handful of PVP that were not staged and can drops to keep Concord off of you.
And yes I know about paragraphs. Sometimes I forget when trying to include as much information as I can I forget to use grammar rules. Deal with it or simply move on.

if you get shot first it becomes self defense and nobody really cares, so long as you don't pop the pod ôWhat we imagine is order is merely the prevailing form of chaos.ö

If you want more people to read what type, and answer your questions, it's not me who is supposed to "deal with it". A massive blob of white on black is hard to read. /shrugs.

Edited by: Othran on 18/07/2011 08:15:43 Its actually fairly simple, you just have to be aware that there are multiple timers running which can be reset independently of each other.
In your case you killed a player in Gallente low-sec. So you have 4 timers running at this point, 3 are 15 minutes, the other is a 1 minute timer :
1) You have 15 minutes aggression to the player you killed/engaged; 2) You have 15 minutes global criminal countdown; 3) You have 15 minutes aggression to Gallente Federation. 4) You have 1 minute aggression preventing gate jumping or docking
Timer 1 will expire in 15 minutes provided you do not aggress the player/his assets within that time.
Timer 2 will expire in 15 minutes unless you aggress another player/players assets who has a sec status of above -5 (assuming you're in low-sec).
Timer 3 will expire in 15 minutes but ONLY if you do not go on grid with a Gallente npc (sentry guns are npcs). If you do go on grid with an npc then timer 3 will reset to 15 minutes. This is what gets people killed by npcs usually as most people aren't aware of how aggression works. So if you dock up for 15 minutes then this timer got reset to 15 minutes at the point you docked so it'll still be running if you undock 1 second after GCC expires.
Timer 4 will expire in 1 minute provided you do not aggress any players or players assets.
The problem is that Timer 2 (GCC) will always be displayed over the other timers as its a greater threat to you.
When it expires then Timer 3 (npc aggression) should be displayed - unless its expired as well - and this doesn't happen reliably. It did get fixed about 18 months ago but its broken again.
Hardly anyone in CCP understands aggression timers either
