So the biggest problem for first characters is direction. Many new players come into the game with no idea what they want to focus on and end up branching out in far too many directions skill wise. My suggestion is this: six months after creation, a skillpoint remap will become available on every character, allowing you to re-allocate the skillpoints you have to whichever skills you want. This will allow new players who have borked their character to be able to fix the problem without the frustration of having to start from square one with another character. You only get one re-map per character, and only after six months of playing it. There could also possibly be a cut-off date, so if you don't use your remap for X amount of time it becomes unavailable.

This is only the 732589237th time that this has been brought up.
So again, No.

if a time limit was imposed, my character would probably be too old to get the remap

Allthough the replies above are quite blunt, they are right. You are right too about noobs not knowing what to train. As a noob I didn't know either, but I did some research: I read every skillbook description in the game, and after that decided what skills I should go for. It wasn't that hard, just a bit of effort. Of course, I have few skills that I regret training, but I think most of the pilots do too.
If a noob CBA do the research himself/herself, why not ask someone ingame or the forums? EVEMON and EFT also help.

Thats my point. EVE SHOULD be daunting for the beginner, it makes the game feel more impressive and also weeds out the WoW kiddies, but almost forcing new players into reading thousands of skillbook descriptions just to not mess up their first character? I don't want to dumb down EVE, I just want CCP to streamline it's tutorial experience into something on par with everything else that has come out this century.

Who is forcing any one to read anything. I even think the topic of research is a bit of a stretch.
Help Chan:
Noob> Hey what is the best way to figure out what to train.
Bitter Vet> Down load EVEMON.
Noob> k.
Done. Simple. No reading, no research, in game maybe 60 seconds.

You can always abandon the character and start a new one if it upsets you so.

When I started this char I trained mining to 4. (I have 2 dedicated miners now) I always wanted to kick myself for that.
He is a combat pilot and also my fleet booster. Then they released the Orca. And suddenly that skill was a requirement for that ship so I didn't have to train it.
Just because you made a miss calculation on one skill doesn't mean that the skill it totally useless. No skill trained in EVE is ever a waste.
I have a few skills that should give me back around 500k sp but if I have to repurchase the skill books... sorry no.
If CCP wants to be nice they can give us ghost sp gain. Give me the sp I lost for 8 months I had to leave for RL & Finance reasons. (that should add around 15mil sp to each of my chars ^^ ) That isn't going to happen, I can live with that, so you should live with your choices.

nice way to learn skills at max SP/h, and than remap
Better: Just learn to make an alt, one with attributes mapped for say: piloting, the other for industry. Both can learn skills at max SP/h.

Still wondering why so many are saying there needs to be a different way CCP does remaps for us pilots and only a few really seem to keep on posting a resounding noooo. Atleast most I talk to in game feels there needs to be a different way remaps are done, more of them etc. CCP needs to listen to the masses more or server count when I log on will probably keep dropping. All the answers we need are inside of us. |

Not sure where you are seeing "so many" crying for remap justice. I see more saying no than the alts supporting the proposal.
I too, talk too people while online and they think this idea sucks.

what CCP can do is to offer SP remaps as a paying service as plex is it is that simple. Then thous that wanna remap can do so but it will cost em 14.99 D and thous that don't wanna remap their sp well they can play on. :)

Edited by: Digital Messiah on 21/07/2011 23:20:22 I am doing all my support skills before i go on a perception willpower remap. In the mean time i am going to use the benefit of having an int/mem map for mining skills as well. By the time I an on my perception willpower remap. I will have great support skills, be able to mine with perfect skills, have drone interfacing 5 for drone boats, and collect quite a bit of money along the way. Not hard to make this plan . Took about 15 minutes on evemon.
15 minutes can save you 15% or more on your skill point mistakes!
