Obviously I do.
When the audience (or reader) knows a fictional character is making a mistake, because the audience has more information than the character.

Anyway, not rising to the puerile trollbait in this thread. The reason my first post was short was because frankly, it's that simple. If you have any grand goals as to what ships you want to use or if you want to fly solo or in a gang etc then please elaborate so we have some more meat to chew on.
In the meantime here are some resources:
Rifter Drifter : Wensleys low sec piracy blog and home to the very handy Rifter guide. This has useful information even if you choose to go with a different frig, or even a different ship class.
The Brutor Bullfighter : Another excellent blog; this time by Miura Bull, with regular updates. Features fitting information, battle reports and most notably some wonderfully written guides to short roams that can be taken including some of the current local flavour. Reading these can give you an idea of some of the things you should be thinking about when roaming.
Garmons Taranis Guide : Getting old now and the state of 0.0 makes it a bit harder to do than it used to be (many more instalocking gangs, ecm cowardice and less willing interceptor victims) but still a fantastic read.
Dotlan : Use this to plan your routes, find hotspots, avoid camps (or find camps to engage!). Play around with it and keep it open at all times. Especially useful are the kills and jumps (in 3 hours) stats.
Give us an idea what you want to be doing, frigs are a great start (or lifetime choice!) but they aren't for everyone. ~~~

Works quite well in my experience. You better be quick about the loot though, it doesn't stay in the wrecks very long :-)

Give me an eve-mail or convo, I'll help you out. That's what my corp is designed to do, train pirates till they're ready for hardcore lowsec fighting.

Train some skills until you can use T2 guns, T2 tank mods (shield or armor, up to you, but I recommend both), and at least L4 in say racial frig and battlecruiser. Frigs first of course as they are easiest to get into with T2 weapons.
Get yourself some jumpclones (Estel Arador's service is still around if you don't have standings), jump into a blank clone or one with low-cost implants.
Grab ship, fit it up, rig it (many good guides around the net for proper pvp fits for all kinds of ships), and head out into lowsec.
Or better yet, do what I did - take one or more of the Agony PVP classes to get a taste of what pvp can be like (though with 60+ frigs in a swarm, it isn't the same as doing normal pirate stuff), as well as give you instruction on some very important things like overview setup, aggression timers, etc.
Once you feel the thrill of it (again, in Agony it was fun to swarm bs's and such with frigs and then get multi-bubbled and everyone dies haha) then go into the recruitment section and find a pirate corp willing to let you in and show you the ropes. Most will want you to have at least some understanding of game mechanics, which is what those Agony classes are good for (even though they deal with null combat more than anything, still highly recommended). Some might want actual experience.
I found Immortalis Inc and though I only had about 7mil sp when I joined, and couldn't even use T2 med lasers yet, I had a pretty good 'book' understanding of game mechanics and such, and they showed me their way of doing things, and how to properly survive and kill in lowsec. My one year anniversary is coming up in a couple days, and there's still no other corp or place I'd rather be than with them.
And don't be an idiot and let them steal your stuff by having them move your high-value ships and mods into wherever they live. Lots of scams like this go on all the time. Once you are with a group for a while, you'll have a better idea of who to trust (if anyone, remember the #1 rule of Eve), and you'll have some experience to decide if they are the right gang for you to continue with, or you should maybe move on to another group that might be more closely matched to what you want out of the game.
But I did exactly what you did...was a carebear since 2004, and finally made an alt just to be a pirate (this character I'm posting with). The beauty of it is that I still have highsec isk-making ability (and better yet, I can take this isk-making char into low/null now that I have a very good understanding of how things work and how to stay alive so I make much better isk to support my pvp with a char that has a hell of a lot more sp), as well as Krusty only having trained for pure pvp stuff instead of the random, sometimes useless crap that my highsec char trained over time (a bunch of sci/mfg/mining/social/etc, about 12mil sp that would be extremely useful for pvp instead).
The only non-pvp skill I think Krusty has is Mining II, whatever the char starts with when you fresh-bake him. So in many ways, Krusty is actually much better at pvp stuff (skill-wise) than my other chars that have 3x and 4x the sp.
Piracy and pvp can be a tough road, and you'll suffer some ugly, painful losses, but you'll also have a lot of fun and get some incredible kills and loot if you keep your chin up and stick with it. Stuff goes here |
