This guide is british. German cars are better with the braking distance, that is why we have no speed limits on our Autobahn. Jealous? |

how many car lenghts is your stopping distance.. what kind of a frikkin idiot comes up with such idears? "hmm lets see there are 10 cars parked till the end of the road so I better stop breaking" that the idear behind it?
"distances are genereal guide, yadayadayada depends on condition of your vehicle"(hmm such as the lenght of the car you are driving?)
sorry, just get annoyed when moronic stuff like this is thought up by some moronic goverment worker that i actualy have to pay for in the form of tax ...
anyway there's 2 ways I can think off for your gf to learn this, if she's good at math learn the formula and do a quick math thingie in your head or just remember the numbers(20mph=40ft, 30mph=75ft 25mph should be the awnser in between those numbers) ----- GIEV custom ship paint jobs! FWIW, the UK standards for braking distances supplied by the licencing organisation and used in the highway code and tests are based on a 1970's Ford Escort.
Seems unusual, but it's quite sensible to teach people to leave more room than they actually need in reality, after all, people are idiots.
So no, cars aren't magically better because they're on German roads.
As for the Autobahn, quite a lot of it has speed restrictions and tbh, with the amount of poor drivers on UK roads, I'm glad we do have a set max limit of 70mph.
Edit:
@OP
You also don't need to learn the braking distances off by heart for the test. In the past 6 years I've done the theory twice, motorbike first then car, and it's ~85% the same test, just with the car specific questions swapped for bike ones. The second part (hazard perception) is the same test.
I can't remember being asked a direct question on the braking distances. The ones that do crop up are the "two second rule" one and the one about braking distances in the wet/poor conditions, which the answer is simply to double the braking time and the distance from the car infront.
2nd edit: I just spotted the times, did she pass? --------------------------------- Go Web! Go! |
