I understand you want to have fun and RP and all of that and I really have no problem with that. Hell, several of our top people like Tyrrax and Istvaan like to RP as well. The thing is you need to RP correctly and the crap I was seeing in local while fighting Astur was cringe worthy and really made me want to turn my guns on the offending parties.
Anyways, I have put together a little list for you that will keep you from becoming the next 30 year old virgin LARPing around yelling LIGHTNING BOLT! DO NOT BE THIS GUY!
1. You are what you are. Play within your character. Unless you are piloting a carrier or a super carrier you do not in fact have drop ships that can launch from your ship. You don't even have a launch bay. Try just thinking a little before you say something and ponder over if this is realistic within game. Same goes for OMG I HAS A SEKRIT WEAPON! No you don't. You have lasers. They go pew pew. I understand you may have issues being inferior IRL and you want to be king kong ding dong in Eve but the fact is you are a scrub among a bunch of scrubs in ships shooting lasers. You do not have a secret weapon. It just makes you look like a ******.
2. Give yourself a crucial moment to reread what you are about to type in chat, say it out loud if it helps, and ponder on this important question. Will this sound lame and stupid to people who cannot hear what is going on inside of my head? Think of it like putting on a condom to ensure safety before diving in. If you have never had sex before I am sure someone can inform you of the experience.
3. Don't **** up local over and over with the same insults typed in a slightly different manner. I am sure you are doing this so as to get a response from whatever Dev is doing the invasion at the time but really you do not need to type in the same insults every ten seconds. It really is annoying and it takes away from what good stuff might be out there. You come off as a little boy crying for attention. Also try having some respect for your enemies. I doubt you would be talking so tough if Capsuleers could join in the fight for Sansha in high sec incursions.
4. Waffles
5. What this all boils down to is using your brain. It may be difficult to think but I assure you the awards are worth it. Remember you are not a solo hero and not everyone can be the dear leader. One day you will get your time in the sun, but sometimes you just have to be cannon fodder. Such is life. Deal with it.

After reading the title I thought I was going to hate this post but it is spot on.
It all boils down to one thing, don't Twink.

Obviously you never were a DM for a game in your life.
True RP works within the framework of what the game allows your character to do or not be able to do.
There isn't a single well run RP based game out there that allows you to fire lightning bolt from your ass just because you SAY you can fire lightning bolts from your ass.
What you are describing is a bunch of pre-adolecents doing freestyle RP (if you can even call it that) with each other late at night on their cell phones. It serves no other purpose than to break your fellow gamers immersion factor, and if EVE were a pen and paper RP based game you'd be asked to leave.

I actually agree with the original poster, and am 100% in character ingame, much to the dismay of many.
Roleplay is not making stuff up as you see fit. It's learning how to play a role within the scene correctly and believably. Your megathron is not different from anyone else's in any real sense. If you want to roleplay, for example, how your crew goes about firing your weapons, that's one thing, but saying it has dropships when the lore of EVE Online clearly says it doesn't, is another, and completely erroneous.
Learn to play D&D you say? How many times have you pulled irrelevant and imaginary crap out of yer arse and had it wash over ok with your DM? Not once I'd wager. You have to play within the rule set of the game, just like EVE roleplay. Otherwise, you're not roleplaying, you're just being annoying.
There is good and appropriate roleplay, and there is not. Choose the former.

YES. I remember facepalming during the sansha live events as people where all like "HA! We have destroyed all your dropships with the groundtroops we deployed on the planet beforehand! You lose!"
I mean what the ****? That is terrible, terrible role play. All you have to do is act in character and respond accordingly to events around you. The GMs decide which way the direction of the story goes, not you.

You will find that nerdy roleplayers are THE most rabid people you will ever run across when it comes to sticking to what is "Cannon" in their RP universe.
You are correct, what you are doing is simply imagination. That is only one of the elements necessary to roleplaying with a group in a shared "universe".
Without the framework and rules system of that gaming universe, blabbing out whatever comes into your head that sounds cool is nothing but irritating to others.
Keep it up long enough, people will mute you. Continue beyond that point and eventually people will simply start suicide ganking you whenever you show up at an event.
If you don't "get" that, you never understood what roleplaying was to begin with.

Now see, here is where Crime and Punishment jackoffs could take a protip. The element that loves to be annoying, that mental-midget demographic that gets a real kick out of being a nuisance? Soon they will learn nothing makes people more uncomfortable than bad hard core role playing. I swear, all the roleplaying i've seen, without exception, has been so affected, lugubrious and television-shallow that 'cringe' doesn't even begin to describe my skin trying to crawl off and hide under the refrigerator. Bear in mind, i'm not saying these people can't have their fun, why, i role play with a light touch myself and in my character's point of view, serious roleplayers are treated as confused weirdos, like the people you see riding a bus as if it's a magic carpet.
Carry on.

But seriously, if I were ever to go to one of these live events I might well roleplay as lamely as possible, both to annoy the serious RP'ers and to illustrate how lame these live events are.

I doubt that you'll enjoy being mass ignored for very long, being the attention ***** that you so obviously are, but go for it.

I was at the first incursion in Teon and the most fun was caused by someone called Fail Cakes, ultra-laming it up. I spat my drink out my nose when he said that the CCP characters and Triad types were just like a relative dressing up as Santa Claus for us. He had a boxer's timing and a corrosive sense of humor. While too many other people thought minmatar meant klingon and that being deadly serious was in no way hilarious itself.

There is a fine line between being witty, and being witless. As you pointed out a lot of that difference likely depends on your timing.

Are you posting this stuff as a gag or a challenge to Tom G?
Talking about your "crew" or laack there of wastes players time but makes RP sense and has no bearing on a battle.
Talking about weapon systems you dont have - claiming things happened in the fight that obviously didnt, - mentioning tactical abilities that are impossible in game just makes you an ass and an attention w-ore
Although after reading this thread if I saw you do it I would jut assume you were dumb and confused yourself.
Wherever you went - Here you are.

@ OP: U hit the bullseye.
Imagination is getting a ship, loading some slaves on it and saying that you bought them off a slave trader to save them.
Imagination is posting threads on the IGS telling why Intaki should be freed and Sansha destroyed.
Imagination is wardeccing some corp because they are supporting people u don't like.
Imagination is NOT saying "I predicted this and planted some mines on the planet... Ur troops will go boom!" Granted, you can do this if it's for example a POS that you have rigged with the other player's OOC agreement, then the other player destructs it. However this is NOT the way to go in incursions.
