I dont run missions but, your gonna have to cross research " Level 5 " both on google and these forums to get a VERY clear picture of what to expect, always stay up to date on ALL new changes to ANYTHING that can possible effect your level 5 mission running and of course, look over countless level 5 mission ship builds again, google.
read and read some more till your absolutely confident, or if you have about 15 billion to throw away learning the hard way.
fly safe.

They've been one of my most consistent sources of income for the past 2-3 years. I typically use a carrier but some other ships work. You need to be prepared for 3000+ incoming dps, heavy neuting (instant cap out on anything subcapital), numerous scrambling/webbing frigates and more other EW than you can count. It's always more than slightly annoying watching my archon get sensor damped to an 11km targeting range and 6mm scan res (3 minutes to target that cruiser with the sensor damps). Can a tengu manage? I honestly don't know. I know carriers are the best single ship option in ungated missions. Sure some smaller ships can run them, but they do **** all dps after fitting enough tank.
For gated ones, the standard solo ship is a rattlesnake. With only around 600 dps it's best to bring some sort of dps ship as well. There are a couple of gated lvl5's without neut towers, those can be solo'd in reasonable time with an active tanked vargur or golem. But you'd damn well better be packing a pith x-type shield booster and a heavy cap booster to run it. I've run them with both a rattlesnake and a vargur, but I've since sold those ships. Compared to blitzing ungated ones with a carrier, they just aren't worth my time.
Some people have found ways to run a few of them in HAC's such as the vagabond and ishtar however this should be considered more of a gimmick method as it only works in a couple missions. It's a lot like running recon 1 of 3 in a shuttle. Yeah it works great but calling a shuttle an efficient lvl4 boat because it can run 2 missions is a bit of a stretch.

I am one of the idiots who do them in a HAC now and again (mostly a Vagabond, but also a Shield Ishtar). It's definitely not efficient but is pretty fun. But, in all honesty, use a Rattlesnake for solo work, or a carrier.
There are alot of points you need to take into account with running Level 5s:
- You will need intel for the constellation where the agent is located, otherwise you will get popped in 5 minutes by the locals.
- You really need most if not all of your tanking skills maxed out to maximise resistances and therefore EHP.
- 75% of the time you will need to fit a passive tank due to neuts.
- If you want to speed tank, make sure your navigation skills are maxed. Afterburner is preferable as it doesn't bloom your sig so much, therefore a light ship is needed (hence Vagabond for me). Armour tank/buffer + Afterburner is FAIL due to added mass.
- You can dual box in various combinations: Interceptor to draw agro and zoom around + DPS ship to blow stuff up, BS DPS ship + logi, Passive tank with drones (Rattler) + DPS ship (Machariel), and so on.
- You used to be able to do them in an unprobable Tengu, but you can't use an unprobable fit anymore as CCP nerfed this with Incarna. Tengu is still viable but is in the same category now as doing it with a HAC as far as I am concerned.
- For a while you could use an agent neighbouring a High-sec system and request missions until you got one in High-sec. I am not sure if this is still the case since Incarna with all the other agent changes.
- Just because you have the standings to run Level 5s, doesn't mean you should.
Hope that helps.

Ishtar runs em fine certainly not as quick as a carrier but then nothing will be. Never tried a vaga but passive shield tengu is fine too.
Regards gimmicks: a dramiel with an ab can tank 1 or 2 of the lv5s and a drake will manage most kin/therm ones, horribly slow though
