I've been playing my character and enjoying trading quite a lot since I started, I'm in an Iteron IV, training for the V right now, then it's off to trading skill land. I was wondering though, what are people moving in those huge ships in and out of Jita/Hek all the time? I've barely been able to fill up my Iteron IV with goods to sell! I've thought about cargo scanning the freighters I see, but I figure that's just rude, so I thought I'd ask instead.
Thanks! |

Just buy the freighter first and the rest will fall into place with little to no thought or effort.
Stay thirsty, my friends.

You might not have a whole lot of isk to put into your hauling...
They might be hauling ships which take up a lot of space, taking all available courier contracts, and just fairly rich so they can fill up with a lot of items. Or they just are hauling 100K m^3 and don't want to make multiple trips.

Ships, minerals, moon goo and PI products are the prime candidates. Some of the less obvious ones could be TI guns used for mineral compression. If you really want to know, fit a passive targeter and a cargo scanner. ---

Imagine it in a way of your iteron is a fright truck and the freighter is a container ship

I often use mine for a couple reasons:
1) I need to move some 50,000m3 or more of stuff and only want to take one trip.
2) If I am carrying a high value amount of stuff, even if low volume, it's much safer in a freighter.

Really? Are freighters difficult to gank? What's it usually take to bring one down?

Many, many Battleships.
The rule of thumb is if what you are hauling in your freightor is worth 1B or less most people won't gank it.
An industrial can be popped by a single battleship or less.

It usually takes 15-20 battleships to suicide a freighter.

Coincidentally, this is a more efficient method of finding out what to trade than asking on the forums too.

Had to quote that to emphesise it. That is the truth. People will lead you to the wrong way on the forums or not tell you on forums, but this is hard to hide.

When someone buys up 500mil+ trit, they need a bit more than an Iteron IV. |

Eh... I feel as though that's a **** move, if I was low on items that I could trade, I might actually do that. If you got cargo you can also accept courier contracts, look inside and then do price checks to see if you should move the items as well.

I fail to see what's ****ish about it, but each man must create his own misguided sense of ehonor I suppose.
Ed: it's even more amusing when you can begin to apply forum faces to their freighter alts.

I'm way too lazy for that.

It's ****ish because you are snooping into what they are hauling without their permission. But that's just how I see it, you probably also condone people getting scammed in this game because it's a game mechanic

I didn't know there was a "passive scamming," module to fit on my alt frigates. I'll have to look into that.

I've never even imagined someone could have a moral problem with cargo scanners.
Learn something every day.
edit to add: how do you feel about players who choose to shoot the spaceships of other players? It seems kind of mean to me.

Haven't seen anyone trying to gank a freighter in hi-sec in about 4 years.

I only encountered a party capable of taking down a freighter about 2-3times at a gate. And this was within the last few months when I was setting up my datacore agents over 70-100jumps. They left me alone in my T2 assault frig as I had nothing of value and we were in high sec.
I know it is possible to take one down, but I have never actually heard of it being done. It happens far to rarely.
