I've read a lot recently about all-in-one exploring ships and it's been very interesting to me since i'm a one-account guy. Sadly, I don't have many probing skills at the moment. My ulimate goal is to use something like this Pilgrim fit:
[Pilgrim, Pilgrim: All in one Low-Sec exploration] Damage Control II Medium Armor Repairer II 1600mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I Armor EM Hardener II Armor Thermic Hardener II
Cap Recharger II Large Peroxide I Capacitor Power Cell 10MN Afterburner II Codebreaker I Analyzer I
Covert Ops Cloaking Device II Small Tractor Beam I Salvager I Sisters Core Probe Launcher
Medium Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I Medium Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I
Hammerhead II Hobgoblin II
What level of astrometric skills would be required to ensure that i'm not wasting my time in lowsec?

I'm in the same boat as you and I liked the idea of an all-in-one ship, but I went with a Hurricane instead.
My probing skills aren't exceedingly high, as I have Astrometrics 4, Rangefinding 2, Pinpointing 3, and Acquisition 2, but I pinpoint signatures relatively quickly.
I just switched to using the Sisters launcher and probes, and it's much better. I'd say it's a requirement if you're probing with a ship that does not receive bonuses.

A hurricane? That sounds painful. Also, are you scanning in highsec? I'm told there's a fairly dramatic diffirence from high to low.

I'm scanning in low sec and in wormholes if I feel like poaching. And it's not painful at all, haven't been popped once, by pirates anyway .

since i have lived in wormholes for over a year, scanning is a daily part of life for me. as such, me and my alliance have skileld up many scanning alts. the basic skills are really easy to get up, and I would suggest something along the lines of;
Astrometrics 4 - so you can have a max of 7 probes, most effiecent number imo Rangefinding 3 - increases the str of your probes to make scanning easier Pinpointing 3 - So that the results of your scans are more accurate as you scan them down.
all together this will only take a few days tops, and gives you a good base set of skills to go by. I myself have leveled up rangefinding to V, so currently have max probe str that skills allow, and it definatly makes things easier.

use drake instead. much better suited for all in 1. Also imo: Buffer + active tank ure one mad bro Hardly enough tank to do sansha and horribad dps. Done even think about blood regions or any other races.
All skills at 4 will be enough, u wont be able to pinpoint may be 1 out of 20. ---- Drones eat everything. Trust me. |

That mixed tank is ****, but the pilgrim is far and away better than the drake for lowsec plexing as all-in-one ships go. I used one for years and never lost it. Of course you want a t3 if you're going to leave lolsec and come to explore w-space/null, but if that isn't on your immidiate list of things to do the pilgrim is probably the best you'll find.
Bear in mind if you're at all serious about exploring as a career you will want a second account to scout, probe, and do that analyzing work. Single account exploring is for die-hard masochists imo.

Before I moved to a wormhole I found I could do everything with level 3 range finding, level 1 pinpointing astro 4 + sisters probes and when you have spare change, the launcher too. I have the speed skill too but that was from back in the day when probing was a surf the internet or read a book skill.
IMO Buffer + Active Tank is strong, Glass active is meh when you want to use your util slots for something other than cap rechargers. DOMINION GAMING, LAID BACK GAMING CLAN Homepage |

Totally agree.
I have soloed about in a Hurricane and a Typhoon and probed- it's fine for combat plexes and some easy radar and mags. You could solo much easier in a Tengu- but I think it costs too much for low and null sec use. I'm also a big believer in- Do what you think is fun! Everybody has their own reasons/priorities for doing what they do.
I also used to scan in the old days when it could take hours to scan down a few sites.

Sorry for partial hijacking but I am kinda new to exploration too so I am looking for a Gallente all-in-one solution for exploration. Any advices/fittings on that?

That's stupid. Most Google searches end up back here where questions are meant to be asked.

myrm, either passive shield or active, your choice. But why all in 1? scouting is better performed by a frig/recon, then go in in combat or fit modules needed. Its 0.0 where you really want all in 1 ship, not low sec, where station are at every corner. ---- Drones eat everything. Trust me. |
