Edited by: Vice Admiral Spreadsheet on 29/07/2011 14:17:56 Let's play a game! Think of a full expansion CCP could hypothetically make, which no one would complain about.
-Complete and utter rebalance? Nope. The Angel pilots will cry -Updated, shiny, futuristic graphics? Nope. Expect complaints from people with old hardware. -New UI? No, as some people will inevitably prefer the older one. -T3 frigs? No, there will be complaints about them being overpowered. -Engine trails? No. Complaints about how it looks like something out of an anime, which jars harshly against the cruel reality of EVE
Besides, the examples above are not huge enough to warrant an expansion, trailer and marketing.
What's something CCP could specifically do which we'd all like?

have a look here, will be way easier
i think the total rework of POS would have noone against. they are useful for all population ; producers, researchers on high sec, reactions, cyno on loq sec, moon mining, bases... on nullsec, and of couse your little home on w-space. would be interesting to have numbers about how many POS are anchored, what % of corps have at least 1...
if it's done well of course :P (biggest issue would be bugs here)

EvE: Exterminatus!
An "expansion" where 90% of reported bugs and glitches have been relentlessly hunted down and terminated with extreme prejudice.
New feature: adjustable font sizing. New feature: AUR reverse-redeemable to game time extensions (3600 AUR = 30 days, 120 AUR = 1 day).
----- CCP is still under the misconception that by waving a bunch of (NeX store items) in our faces, we'll give in to our urges and (buy) them. Bring back the hangar view and its functionality! |

Ponies.
I think we can all agree that any expansion involving ponies will be universally acclaimed as a great expansion and fully in keeping with EVEs current direction of development. Here are a few examples of how this should be achieved:
Pony colour skins for ships Pony pets for Incarna (watch the cute little guys trot around your CQ) POS remake - POSs remade to look like a pony Pony tatoos. Awesome.
Perhaps some readers have additional ideas (even some pictures?) of how more ponies can and should be added to EVEs lore, backstory and game play.

People would happily complain that 10% of the bugs weren't fixed.

Crew members that you can hire (and have to pay wages and benefits - especially life insurance), to increase your ship stats. Eg, helmsman, weapons / tactical, engineer, etc. Larger ships can have more crew. Something like a frigate might have zero crew slots.
Custom skins / schemes for faction ships. So, you won't have a bunch of noobs in apocs with hello kitty painted on them. :-p (ps, I'm a noob, definitely don't have any faction ships)
Change directional scanner to use AU as units, instead of KM.
Improve Star Map options. Specifically, allow users to save presets of their map settings. Also, more importantly, would like enhanced capabilities, to say, show system sovereignty of multiple alliances in a single view without having to change settings(eg, Alliance A stars are blue, Alliance B stars are red, Alliance C stars are orange, etc), instead of limiting it to one-alliance-at-a-time.
Let Autopilot jump to zero.
Allow mining straight into a jet-can, instead of the cargo hold.
Make Local chat window work like in Wormholes in Null-Sec - don't display who's in the system unless they chat. Alternative, if you intend on leaving Local As-Is, at least allow sorting options, to put hostiles on top of the list.
Improve graphics. Keep low-res versions of course, for people with low-end systems.
Improve UI. Leave an option for reverting back to the old UI.

It's funny because it's true.
Hmm let's see...
-Supercaps changed to non-combat support ships? Alliances with tons of them pitch a fit. -Hundreds of new WH systems? Nullsec players cry they're being neglected! -Brand new regions in sov nullsec? Instantly dominated by existing power blocks, the new***s continue to whine. -Brand new regions in npc nullsec? OMG NOTHING TO TAKE OVER, WTF?! -Rebalanced weapon systems? Hybrids are overpowered because my hurricane can't wtfpwn them all! I trained minmatar and now it's not the best! -Lag completely fixed? WOW WE JUST GOT BLOBBED BY 5,000 pilots! Let the node crash on those bastards! -Ship tier re-balance? WTF YOU NERFED THE drake/hurricane/myrm/harb INTO THE GROUND?!
There is literally nothing they can do without ruffling someone's feathers. Poor buggers.

Edited by: Sheila Sarani on 29/07/2011 19:43:49 Not so sneaky anti whiner whiner and incarna lover detected;)
In case its not i will explain it to you:
It's not possible to make all 100000 peoples happy (peoples not accounts and its rough guess from 350k accounts but amount is irrelevant so bear with it as example). In 100k peoples even if you start giving free cash you will find few that will complain that its not enough, they prefered euro instead of dollars or some other crap.
The point of expansion is to make as many peoples happy as possible, get as many new and returning players as possible with as few unhappy as possible and as few permanent quits as possible.
To get that goal you must sacrifice something, like overpowered super capitals for example or free kills on gallente hybrid ships. You need to get lots of peoples happy and make game looks like a strong base to invest time and cash. One of such examples was nano nerf it ****ed quite a few nano lovers but made a lots of peoples happy and get quite a few old timers that left becouse of this issue back.
So if you know what kind of deal you need to get you could go for expansions that: - Renowation - fixing all abandoned content and rebalance. FW, cosmos, epic mission arcs to name a few. - More fixes of bugs and little issues in game aka polishing - PoS rewamp - low sec gets UNIQUE game play features while making catching "pray" harder, sure wannabe piwates would cry, but influx of new players to this regions would make up a lot for it and change wasteland to just a dangerouse place for peoples with balls - bot annihilation campaign followed by constant vigilance on the issue could be tricky if quick $$$ is far more important than product health and long term $$$ but it would make quite a few peoples happy and economy more healthy in long run - game rebalance to make more existing ships usefull could create little rage, but far more peoples would be happy than not
And two words about Incarna as example what not to do: - promised feature wasnt really there, lots of bugs moved in to have new home in EVE, now there is legion of them, mt fiasco and than pr fiasco, nothing to get the teeth sink into if you are not cosplay maniac with big wallet and small brain.
So it ****ed of more peoples than it made happy while most was just indiffrent in they opinion, amount of cancellations will be known in few months though i doubt its big, even so it isnt growth its at best stagnation. So expansion was a failure in that view it made more peoples angry than happy while rest just didnt care.
Well that was big "word":P and second one is how they could not **** up Incarna release and make it go far smoother. - deliver far more finished product with core gameplay at least like bars, communal areas, some minigames (hell those arent hard to code) while still maintaining old hangar view (upgraded a little though) with option to "get out of pod", at least with little beta testing by some experienced betatesters - more micro than macro transactions with at least few dozen items in there... polished not rushed items (i hate mt but in such expansion it would be swallowed), also what would made mt not so painfull would be paint job scheme slot in your ship to put in like rig, destroyed when removed with quite a bit player made but with exclusive ones in mt, exclusive one would be also aliance theme and if it was cheap it would be quite a big money making machine - some in space rebalance (hybrids and supercaps as they are loudest issues) and if they wanted to made "epic" expansion loved by a lot, hated by few something like t3 frigates or something like that to make this "pointless to many" expansion far sweeter to pewpew crowd
Maller and turrets animation wasnt enough to sweeten bitter pill:P
In summary, more honey less crap and it will be swallowed and peoples will be in general happy. |

Being an active forum warrior since Trinity, I will say that there were MAJOR forum complaints and lots of anti-CCP activity with EACH one of those expansions.
And I disagree with your second point. Walking your computer avatar around, especially where there are other interaction capabilities, makes a damn great sci-fi immersion tool.
Sure, we aren't there yet, not really. But I don't doubt we will be.

- Bad roleplayers complaining that they want to keep pretending their ships have no crew, and various gamers complaining about having to micromanage yet another task on ships.
- Complaints from those who don't use faction ships on why can't their T1/T2 ship be customized. Complaints by the rest of us on why every hisec hero undocks with the same absolute black or black and red ships.
- *****ing from those who liked KM measurements better.
- Complaints on a limit to the number of presets saved, and if no limit is imposed, complaints by some users due to massive lag when opening said super star map after they saved 10,000 different presets.
- Oy, massive complaints by suicide greifers and war fighters, as now even the afk dips just fly on past.
- Complaints from the old school, as we all know jet-can mining is not an intended mechanic
- Oi, massive rage from the 'nerf stealth' nulsec carebears. Other option is the complaint with a sorted local that now, free intel is even easier!
- Complaints by players who own low end systems but swear they have high-end systems and their comp crashes. This one has already happened before, actually.
- Complaints about inevitable bugs in new UI, as well as any improvements not being implemented in the old UI as well.
