I'll start off by saying I'm not a fan of "gold ammo" concepts and their ilk, but if you think CCP is soft on RMT, read on.
Review the article HERE and imagine such a system built right into the framework of the game. Not even a need to make any currency conversions directly or indirectly. Just link your account to a valid source of payment and pay 2 win is the name of the game. So with the invention of the NeX and its unique currency specifically for vanity items, does it still seem so outrageous given the direction that other industry heavy hitters are taking their franchises? Does this make you wonder if CCP will re-evaluate their current stance on "gold ammo" etc.? Is Bill O'Reilly really that dumb? Ok that last one wasn't really relevant, but hey...tide goes in, tide goes out, right?

I can already see it.
Butthurt bear who just lost a freighter to a gank: "You stupid no-lifes, do you have nothing better to do than to kill people in an internet spaceship game? Can't you get a job or something?" Gankers: "We have a job. In fact, we're working right now, and we just made $50 each. Thanks for your help. " ---

That is slightly irrelevant however. Diablo 3 isn't going to have a player run economy. If every item you got in eve was dropped by an npc. Than no one would be hurt by being able to buy the items directly. It would just save another player time from farming to get that item. In eve however, any time an item enters the game that can be made by a player, that isn't, hurts the economy and lack of competition in that market.
I don't like that D3 is going to have a P2W system. But It won't hurt me from farming my BiS gear for my character and laughing at the people who have nothing left to do.

The majority of people, which is quite ignorant, doesn't seem to understand what exactly the industry concept of pay-to-win is.
No, it's not "the ability to exchange real currency for accelerated in-game progression." Pay-to-win is, and only is, the ability to buy some form of competitive advantage directly from the developer/publisher.
If we accept the ignorant majority's definition of pay-to-win, then every single saved-progression multiplayer game released in the past two decades is pay-to-win. For as long as saved-progression multiplayer games and ebay/paypal have existed, people have been selling and buying in-game items from others. However, as long as an expenditure of human energy is associated with every bought/sold item, there's nothing wrong with this. Does it matter who spent fifteen hours repeatedly killing a dungeon boss for a Helm of Slaying, as long as someone has?
Blizzard isn't creating a pay-to-win game. They're simply implementing a feature that should've been present in multiplayer games for many years now.

1) What part of this graph (and all things connected to it) would you like to remove from the game by having performance boosting or pay to win items in RMT shop?
2) Which groups of players will be left without their main interest in the game and be forced to look for fun elsewhere?
Answer those two questions and you'll get the answer about RMT impact on EVE Online.
