When you see an Armageddon go up in smoke.. you wonder.. how does just 1 pod survive?. Seems like ALOT of wasted ship for only you the pilot to survive lol. I was thinking Give big ships.. Bships and Cruisers the ability to "Implant" a frigate of their ships race into the ship. So for example. When your Apoc or Arma or Omen goes BOOM.. You could have an Executioner Implanted into an emergency escape bay. and instead of just popping into your pod in space You would be placed into the ship you implanted into your ship.
And then once your frigate Goes boom~ you end up in a pod hehe.
Food for thought?

When you go pop, you can't stop?
Let say that something like a frig is just too big to survive the destruction of its big brethen intact, and countless studies have proven that naked pod ejections are the safest method of egressing from impending doom.
Besides, the insurance companies would have a fit if you went through ships that fast...

Or MAYBE,
When your in a Titan and it blows up you eject into a Battleship, If they blow that up you eject into a Battlecruiser,If they manage to take that one out then you eject into a Cruiser, and then if they are really determined and blow you up yet again you end up in a frigate. But Wait!!! If they manage to blow up your Frigate you eject into your Noob ship.
IF they kill that one to, Then you are in your POD.
It could work "Its all fun and games til somebody gets Podded" |

This could be done like this:
Low slot item: Emergency Frigate Hangar PG: 1500 CPU: 25 Cargo: 30K m3 Ammo-Type: Frigates, Interceptors, Assault Frigates, Covert Ops Frigates, Newbie Ships
This module can only be loaded with assembled ships. When activated, the pilot's escape-pod is transferred from the parent ship into the escape ship, which is then launched out of an escape hatch.
The parent ship is not destroyed by using this module, and the module is not automatically actived when the parent ship is destroyed, so you have to be smart about using it.

Edited by: Vannaroth on 02/03/2005 00:00:23 ive never liked the whole 'pod' thing. i far prefer the thought of my character yelling orders to crewmates tapping away at computers that control the ship, like in startrek only cooler .
which is why i think there should be some kind of crew system, where you can fit crew into 'crew slots' to increase the performance of your ship. and instead of pods, there should be escape pods for you, and each crew department that shoot out and warp to the nearest station autmatically when you pop, and you'd have to click 'eject' before your ship explodes or you die. surviving crew members would go into your items. obviously pod killing would still be possible, but id prefer something like that to the current 'man stuck floating around in pod' thing.

good idea . . .yep would it really happen in reality . . . yep does it work for a game . . . Nope
Certain aspects of the game revolves around being able to pod your opponent. This would take away from that satisfaction. A variant of the idea might work:
The concept of ejecting in another ship BEFORE your ship blows up would be interesting . . . only becasue it would allow the pirate to salvage the ship while you flee. I think this would have to initiated before structure takes damage, take about 5 seconds, and a warning needs to be given a few seconds before the escape ship appears. A warning would show up to targeting ship: "Sensors detect pod being transfered into escape vessel". This would give the pirate time to turn off their weapons and prepare for the next ships appearance. The ship cannot reenter the vessel. No body count but ya got a 100+mil BS and mods out of it. That I think would be cool.
