They're making the claim just to get the person's name out of Google. Once they have the name, then they drop the case, retaliate against the author via any number of indirect means, and let the author spend the money and time trying to prove that they were unfairly fired/demoted/suspended/harassed/whatever over the videos. (Or if it's an employee making the videos, they fire the employee for unprofessional conduct.) It's much more evil since the burden of proof (and costs thereof) shifts to the author. Which is, of course, impossible (the internet just does not work that way). Even if Google does hand over what they have on the person, its very possible the details are false anyway. Many SL users have dedicated Gmail et al accounts fully registered in their avatar names, just for branding purposes. And some use this to keep their RL details separate. Also, the moment Google gives in, accounts setup for privacy purposes will simply pack up and leave. This makes me continue to wonder why the FSF does not offer their own Google-like services. A much better approach would have been to tell Google to remove the content under DMCA rules.
