that's pretty much how i see it. my whole corp quit 2 months ago and moved to another MMO. i'm just waiting out my plex time here, training random crap
Their old claim of being the worlds largest cluster for an MMO is pretty much meaningless when that universe is getting emptier over time.
Eve: The worlds emptiest universe on the worlds largest underused server.
Well, at least it will free up blades CPU's and Memory for WoD and Dust I suppose.

You know I would be worried if even a portion of that was true, but Eve's universe might have shrunk slightly (not suprising after a 7 year run) but its hardly the exados you speak of. I mean SWG, that was an exadous and even after that the game is not only still running but has an entire dedicated fan base to creating an EMU for the bloody thing.
Eve is might be slighly shrinking, but dying? Sorry, but the day when you can log into Eve and go a game session without half a dozen corps trying to stick it in you is the day I will believe that. For now its **** and pillage as always, nothing has changed but the date.

Hate to break it to you but Star Wars Galaxies is shutting down.
You also forget people are just playing out their gametime and remaining ISK on PLEX, I am one of the many doing that, until Christmas 2011 MMO release fest.
Frankly the appeal of Eve died for many, myself included, knowing the road CCP are taking, why should I bother injecting new cash into it and why should I bother putting long hours and effort into it? I see no compelling reason anymore. The spirit of Eve is dead for many.

Eve will go on, eve is dying threads will go on, and CCP will release the golden bathtub in the NEX store for 1,000,000 AUR so that I may bathe in the tears of OP's for generations to come... . Adapt and overcome or become a monkey on an evolution poster.

It's going to be a tough go for CCP, I'll give ya that Miilla.
Like others have mentioned I'm already seeing ~10K fewer people logged on during my play time. It's gone from around 40K to 30K with the odd "blip" on the weekends. I also agree with your post about local and the "spirit" diminishing. I have even noticed that in my short time playing. Fewer people are chatting in local or looking to fleet up and have some lolz together. Some of the people I used to fly with don't log in anymore.
It has reduced my enjoyment of the game a little.

Eve is dying, really, just look at your normal local, you can see it has died off, Eve has lost its appeal to lots of people now.
Hmm, strange. I've played every day for the last month, and haven't noticed this. Seems like as many people as ever are playing, regardless of whether their game time is funded by PLEX or not.
Seems like the people who quit, want to quit, or hate the game but can't quit, are the ones trying to convince everyone that EVE is dying. Perhaps it makes them feel better to believe so.

Thoughts?
No - I think CCP decided to abandon it in its unfinished state (like they did with all features) and squeeze out as much money as possible from the playerbase whilst they pay to beta-test the WoD engine for them.

Perhaps you are in an unaffected TZ or System.
It probably varies across regions and timezones but there has been a noticable drop for many.

Well EVE hasnt lost its hype/flair/wthever, but CCP have lost their willpower to keep EVE as great as it is and to tip it off after 2 years of "not-really-content" content they finally bring out "now-its-time-to-milk-the-customer" content!
Alot of ppl left not really because of what EVE has become but because of the direction it is going and what EVE IS going to become. From a customer perspective, why invest more time and resources into a product when the company promisses something and DOES something else, unlike politics, liars lose their support/credibility quickly in the business world.
I have one foot in the door myself, just waiting another year and see how things turn out after all the development focus is off of WoD and DUST514.
Also I wish expansions were paid for in EVE, I simply wouldnt buy INCARNA and keep my shipspinning hangar.
CCP, stop enforcing unwanted content while removing favourite features, seriously, fastest way to lose customers.. as u can see ur self probably.

IIRC the terminology is BLOCKED, and if people don't care about my opinions they shouldn't be forced to hear them. At least it will be the end of the "Tom Gerard is a Troll!" accusations.
I've never said that. I don't have any problems...

All games have turnover. Old players get tired of playing, and new players come in.
Forums tend to be heavily weighted to jaded old players, some portion of which will always be disgusted by this or that new development.
In short: Eve isn't on the downslope yet, it just has a really bad case of dandruff.

You know this isnt the case here right now.. If old players lose interest they simply quit for a year or 2.
What is really going on is that CCP made a radical decision and now want MT and all the other evils they promissed we would never see.

There is no Eve. There is only Super Carriers online - and that game is pretty damn boring.

the last 2 years eve has be diversifying - PI, eve gate, incarna - expanding the size of the sandbox. Not just adding Toys, like ships, to play with.
Eve over the last 2 years especially the last one has been focusing on fixing bug, rewriting code into Carbon.
To the sounds of it Carbon is finishing up and soon we well see another expansion of shiny new ships like T3 Frigates. Probably in the next year or so.
Due to Eve switching to gradual releases vs the 2 Mega releases we don't see a massive shock of new stuff coming in. So it is perceived as dying where it is stronger than it has ever been. here we go again! |

"Carbon" is basically re-packaging Eve code for use in other games.
It's too early to know if Eve is in legacy mode. We'll find out when Dust/WoD are out. If those or new titles remain the focus then yes, if it was just those games sucking up development resources and CCP returns to Eve seriously then no. It could go either way at the moment, and how successful Dust and WoD are will have a bearing.

Carbon is the modularizing of Eve code to allow the seamless integration of features. which can mean export but also import from other Games like WOD and dust 514. This means Eve is finishing its skill points training so we will see an acceleration of Incarna as stuff is stolen from WOD which is focused around the Incarna expansion. here we go again! |
