I'm sure there are people who can speak to this better than I can, but to get you pointed in the right direction...
The simple market view will let you buy or sell an item if orders exist for that item. It will match you up with the best (price-wise) offer that is currently accessible to you.
The advanced window allows you to put an order on the market to specify how many units you'd like to buy/sell, and at what price. There might not be any buy/sell orders on the market to match with what you're asking for immediately, but your order will go on the market and people can act on it from there.

I can't find any guide either. My problem is that I am in the right station for my product to be sold. I put the items in the items box of the station. But when I try to sell it I still get a very low price offered. Can someone please tell me what I do wrong or point me to a marketing guide.
Thanks,
Loudon

The simple window will only let you fill any buy orders that are up and in range. The advanced window lets you put up a sell order so you can get an actually decent price. (Make sure you put the duration to three months. You can always cancel it later.)

Yes. I understand. There is a buy order for 440/piece in the station I'm in. But when i try to sell it there I only get offered 190/piece in the simple window. Now i've put it up for sail in via the advanced window for 440/piece but nothing happens.

If you expand your market window out to the right you will see a 'minimum quantity' column on the buy orders, it looks like you do not have the minimum required by the buy order at your current station.

Maybe I need a special skill or something?

It looks like something is amiss. Petition it. Alternatively, try logging out and logging back in. Sometimes that will clear a problem.

Yeah, something is definitely amiss there. It should automatically home in on the highest buy order that's within range (and the buyer sets the range, not you). Are you sure you're looking at the right window? The buy orders are on the bottom.

Also double check that you are at the right station, there are occasions where a corporation has multiple stations at a single moon or planet.
If all is correct then file a petition in-game.
