If i wanted to just use T2 medium drones and lights, would it be ok if i got all the skills like drone interfacing, navigation, min spec and gall spec up to 4 instead of 5? just so i can use T2 med and lights to an acceptable level?

Ideally, get everything everything to V, except the spec skills which will be fine at IV. It's a pain, I know, but you won't regret it.

There's a thread still on this very page about remapping specifically for drones: here
If you're going to remap for drones, go all the way, because those skills will be worth it (and they still wouldn't fill the whole year before your next remap).

It has been argued that training Drone Navigation to V actually decreases dps on average by causing drones to overshoot their targets. Some also claim that Drone Sharpshooting V decreases dps under some obscure combination of circumstances. I think its based on the theory that critical hit chance is at maximum when you are exactly at your optimal range. I.e. being closer to your target than your optimal range decreases critical hit %.

Not true, the benefit of having your drones out there faster is much better than them MAYBE overshooting for a second. And the lower this skill is, the more the chances are they can't even catch up to the target.

Assuming you're talking about wrecking hits here, there is no such thing as having this decreased when closer to a target. Previous statistical analysis showed it seems to be very random. Also actually getting better hits has nothing to do with this, at most you can say that you will track better at optimal range as transversal velocity will generally be lower.
With that skill they will shoot at their optimal sooner when approaching though. And of course there's sentry drones... --- Drykor - AHARM |

DN5 used to cause some drones to orbit faster than they could track. This has loooooooong since been fixed. The only argument remaining is whether it's marginally preferable to have your drones chase rather than orbit -- but that's such a balancing act that it eventually comes down to higher drone speed == better.

This doesn't even make sense for reasons already discussed.
One thing that would be nice is an additional skill that increases drone tracking, but that's another discussion entirely.
