Hey guys, I was reading an article mentioning the "Gruber Gambit which military tacticians advise against as it can result in the Willis Maneuver from the enemy".
Source: page 2 of article
Can someone shed light on this as friend Google failed me on this one. The reason I'm posting this here is because it seems that holding someone tackled when ransoming in EVE might result in this "Maneuver" from his corpmates. I just wonder what exactly this tactic is.
Feedback is welcome! |

Hans Gruber is a badguy in the movie Die Hard, which stars Bruce Willis; the picture int he article is a shot from that movie, when hans gruber is holding willis's character's wife/exwife/whatever hostage. willis's character had a pistol strapped to his back, which he grabs and shoots hans, thus saving the lady. |

Why advice against? Willis shot the bad guy and saved the damsell. That's a GOOD thing yeah?
Plus it looked cool on TV. WE knew it was gonna happen, it did and the crowd went wild.

I guess that makes sense.
So in other words, when the target says "yo hey, my mates are gathering the ransom, please give me 1 more minute..." we should just shoot him then?

a) I like my fits with faction mods. b) Most people don't fit faction mods.
When issuing ransoms, I consider point a) and disregard point b). |

Well willis' maneuver only worked, since he was never really outgunned.
In EVE the pirates or gruber will have more guns then you do, making Willis' maneuver a bad one.
So remember, always bring more guns to the party, you can do whatever you want to then, and people will call you a genius. I will not be voting in the CSM election, so you need to go vote to make up for me. |
